In Nancy Meyers' The Holiday, a romantic comedy from the director of Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want, two women trade homes only to find that a change of address can change their lives. Iris (Winslet) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda (Diaz), realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris' handsome brother Graham (Law) and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur (Wallach), mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles (Black).

Iris' parts will always be my favourite parts of this film. Her side is just so interesting, heartwarming and significant. Not saying I don't appreciate Amanda's side, but Iris bonding with the writer and having Jack Black as a romantic interest won me over. What a beauty and a phenomenal actress Kate is!

The looks on Miles' face was some good acting by Jack Black, but Iris' look was priceless. Kate Winslet was the jewel of this movie for me. No wonder she's been nominated for 7 Oscars and won one Oscar. I'm not a rom-com kind of guy, but I really enjoyed The Holiday immensely.

I love this movie. Jack Black and Kate Winslet look good together but I cried when I saw Arthur's face after the doors opened and he climbed those stairs. He worked so hard in his life and it paid off

My sister was in a cafe in Big Sur, CA years ago. Seated nearby was Jack Black and his wife. Somehow a brief and respectful conversation ensued and my sister was left with a lovely memory of a very kind man. 😊
I NEVER would have expected this pairing being my favorite (Rose from Titanic and the guy from School of Rock?) but they are so adorable, with such great chemistry! Truly one of the greatest friends to couples pairings I've seen. Amanda and Graham are cute, but (for me) Miles and Iris are the heart of this movie.

To each, his/her own. Before seeing the film, I thought there is no way Jack Black ends up with a Kate Winslet. Having recently seen it for the first time, I still feel that way. Fortunately, the film doesn't answer the question past New Years Eve. Good film... for a first time viewing; I doubt I'll watch it again.

Honestly this is why I only like 50% of this movie. I wish the whole movie was these two because their love story is adorable, and sweet and just the best.
Me too when I first watched this movie I felt like they showed the story between Jude and Cameron's characters too much and not enough of these two but this was my favorite half of the movie too haha
Eli Wallach was a legend. It was wonderful getting to watch him in this.

Arthur feels like an older version of myself. As I too have had a love affair with motion pictures for most of my life. This really is a feel-good movie.

Edit: Kate doing that wide, giddy and happy smile is sooo spot on. When you’re with someone that makes you feel like your face will break off because your smile is so big and truly makes you feel like that in your heart is a keeper lol!

At the end of your days, one last moment in the sunlight is all we ask. To be acknowledged we mattered to someone for who we were & the life we lead. It was as much a homage for Eli Wallach the man & not just a part he played in this movie.
This is will always be my fav holiday movie. I watch it every few months, whenever I'm down it helps me.
Arthur probably looked like a Hollywood boss walking in with a younger blonde to most of that crowd 😂

I’ve always believed that Jack Black and Kate would make an excellent married couple (if they did decide to get married)
Ok Jude & Cameron are definitely the “sexier” couple but their relationship is waaay more challenging (and I’m not too sure how they’d manage to make it work in the long run however sweet their storyline is)
These two might not have sizzling chemistry at first glance, but they know how to take care of people who need kindness in their life.
That is marriage material, in my books.
I don't think this marriage would have worked out. Kate is a Christian and Jack sold his soul for fame and fortune. Sad, but true

Miles and Iris (and Arthur) were my favourite part of this movie. Graham and Amanda were ok but I just found them a bit too boring and cliche. I wish the film was a bit more balanced with the two storylines because I felt it like concentrated on the England plot more and I kept wishing for it to go back to LA so we could see more of Miles and Iris!

I'll say it to anyone that listens: Jack Black is the best actor on the planet. Watch "Orange County" and "The Holiday" and "Jumanji" or its sequel and there's really not many people with that ability. Want idiot comedy? A burnout? A romantic? An inspiration? Someone that can play Danny DeVito or The Rock trapped in his own body?
I didn't appreciate him. He's the goat.
Eli Wallach was awesome. Jack Black, by contrast, should never have been cast. Just horrible.
