My absolute favourite scene in this movie, I really love Iris and Arthur's friendship, in spite of their significant age gap. Their love of classic cinema helps them to bond. 🥰
but its a little nonsense. not everyone can be a leading lady, otherwise the term "leading" loses all meaning. idk, i don't get the premise of this movie. her ex-boyfriend got engaged, so why is he obligated to tell her that? they're no longer together. and however "great" Iris may or may not be is irrelevant. she and her ex may not have been compatible.
@@aliali-ce3yf this means that she is clinging to a deadend relationship. Arthur wants to remind her that she is worth more than that. About the engaged thing, the problem is Jasper hold her to his life even though he has girlfriend already. He gave her false hope because he needed her. He gaslight and manipulate her by make her feel that he loves her. That is a typical narcissistic behavior. So they got twisted and toxic non existing relationship so Iris needs to wake up for that.
0:33 - lol, hollywood was awful in the past. studios would encourage drug use to keep actors wired. casting couch assaults, harassment of all kinds, etc
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the romanticization of old timey Hollywood in this movie. It's definitely a mark against it. There was no so-called Golden Age of Hollywood; that was just a facade. People only saw the pretty faces and glamorous outfits. The only difference between now and then is people actually know *some* of what goes on.

A movie dedicated to the story of Iris and Arthur's friendship would be a great movie.
1:52 - 2:16 That's the best line delivery I've ever heard from Kate Winslet. Just thinking about this scene makes me want to cry.

Arthur was absolutely right when he told her that she needed to please herself first instead of others and to love herself better
