MUSIC!! "U Make Me Feel" by MK2
I’m surprised James and Chelsea complained about the scene where the characters crying over Jordy’s death being a little too long. I was watching this with headphones so I can clearly hear that these characters had to endure Jordy’s screaming agony being devoured alive by spiders. They were closing their ears whilst crying themselves because there’s literally nothing that they can do to save Jordy and the scream is too much for them to take. For me it was an incredibly emotional moment.
it's my favorite scene from the movie. It's so intense
Finally saw the film and I agree. At first I thought the scene went on too long, but then I realized that we could hear his cries of agony still and messed with me!
I like how they made the comparison between the spiders and the residents of the low income apartments. Just like the residents, the spiders were minding their own business before someone bigger than them uncovered them and displaced them from their home (many residents were moving out or had moved out). A lot of people are afraid of both and considered them dangerous when really they were just trying to survive and were only attacking when they felt threatened.
In the jordy crying scene, they can hear his painful screams through the vents and its their reaction of being forced to hear their friend die. Took me like 2 minutes in to figure it out.
Just watched this yesterday and that scene was hella sad man, I wasnt expecting this movie to be so serious in its tone and that got me lol
Is THAT what that was? I was wondering if there was something more to that than I was seeing
@@melindachase5046nah, what you see is what you get. He was dying slowly and painfully, and his friends had to hear it all. Simple as.
As an Aussie, my motto for spiders is that I'm cool with them as long as I know exactly where they are. Bonus points if they eat mosquitos 🙏
And eat roaches
Huntsman are UNNECESSARILY large for house spiders
So kinda like crocodile, in a way?
That’s a good motto
@@An0nymous_L0gicit’s still better than the red backs we have 😅
Ive been playing the new Killer Klowns game today and yesterday, absolutely love it and couldn’t be prouder of Chelsea’s work in the game. When the Chiodo brothers let it slip at PAX East that there would be girl klowns I had no idea it would be you! ❤❤
I hope she continues to get work! I haven't played the Fire Emblem game she's in, but I listened to her voice-overs from it, and I got actual chills. She did so well in that, and her work on Killer Klowns is great too!
I really hope she continues to pursue that line of work. She's amazing.
@@RedSpade37I legitimately want Nintendo to remake the game her character is originally from at least 25% because I want her to reprise her role 😂
Every one of my klowns must now be female!! ❤ 🤡
Is it on Switch?
Man, Beyond the Spider-Verse got even darker than I was expecting.
Bugs are "cleaners".... they gobble up decay. I'd hate to live in a world without their contributions
I wonder if there’s any ties to the “decaying” state of the apartment block? Maybe that’s why they bred so rapidly? Perhaps they’d thrive in such an environment.
Thanks for rooting for bugs Chelsea! Wild bees and pollinators are even more important than honeybees. They are responsible for pollinating most of our food, not honeybees, contrary to popular belief.
Additionally, mosquitos are primarily pollinators, not bloodsuckers. Only some species suck blood and even then, only mating females for the most part. So even the 'worst' insects still make positive contributions in nature.
Once, when I was in high school, a massive wolf spider (harmless) scurried out from under a cabinet into the center of the kitchen. Being the genius that I was, I pulled a broom from beside the fridge and turned it upside down so that the stick was pointing downward (knowing that the bristles wouldn't be firm enough to kill it). I lined up my shot and dropped the broom handle precisely onto the abdomen of the spider. An explosion happened as if i splattered the bug into a thousand tiny pieces - which to my shock and horror began running in every direction. Wolf Spiders carry their young on their back...
something to consider.
GAHHHHHHHHHH
@@20628 yeah - it was horrifying. Haha. I learned a lesson that day.
once, when I was a kid, my brother shoved my face into the back of a wolf spider. the back, of course, being covered in babies.
I'm french and I'm living in Paris. Bed bugs where everywhere on social media a few months ago, I never saw one in my bed (thank god) and one day I just stopped hering about them.... who knows! Hopefully they went away for good
Great episode, as always, but I think you may have missed the plot point where people get who are bit act as a cocoon for new spiders to grow in. We see that when the dog dies and when Mathys sees Mme Zhao's body. I think that's why they kept growing; the bigger things they ate/bit, the bigger the spiders could grow. That's why the all the characters treat it like a zombie virus.
As a European person, I find it very funny to hear native English speakers talking about French is difficult to pronounce. Fun fact: the reason English spelling doesn't make any sense, is because it was so influenced by French
To answer some James questions :
- The building in the movie is real, and it's in Seine St Denis (Paris suburb)
- Gilles is prounouced "Jil"
(Ask any question about the movie french stuff in the replies)
3:32 "It's the language of- sh**" - Chelsea Rebecca, 2024
"It's like their cheese"
"Yeahhh... what??"
Shit sent me 😂
I didn't expect "James vs. the French language."
I also did not have “James vs. any and all bugs” on my bingo card
Congrats Chelsea on your work on the Killer Klowns game!! I probably wasn't going to be it because those style of games aren't my thing but now I will for sure!
My fiance is an entomologist and I'm a wildlife biologist who studies snakes. We have snakes, roaches, and dozens of tarantulas as pets. Needless to say, pretty much all creature features have been ruined for us 😆
P.S. Bugs ARE animals, James! They deserve love too ❤
21:11 That’s Mortal Kombat Trilogy. You can tell from the Aggressor meter at the bottom of the screen.
Respekt
Finally someone speaking the truth about the french language!! So brave!!
Glad someone did haha. I've never been a fan (partially because the kids that took French in high school were usually very annoying) but it drove me nuts they call it the language of love because it makes me wince when I hear it.
@@xxkori123xx it sounds like they have something stuck up their ass and it makes them uncomfortable to speak
He's so real for this that I forgive him for his bug slander
I am convinced that people just think French is a sexy language because French people are stereotyped as sexy.
@@weirdguy1495 It's just the language of the greatest literature and the most beautiful poetry. And I'm not sure that a film like Infested which represents the language of disadvantaged neighborhoods and not the sophisticated one is representative of it. And i mean is imitation doesn't sounds like even a little like French, even to make a parody of it, i guess that's why he doesn't understand english is actually simpler, less complex, beautiful and practical to express different nuanced emotions
Regarding the whole bedbugs thing, we heard about it on the news, but I remember with classmates we mostly joked about it and I don't recall a single person talking about encountering any. So really I don't know, but even if it DID happen, it totally blew over now
As a French, we love you James and Chelsea ! Je vous aime beaucoup
I'm so glad you guys are talking about this movie !!! I went to see it at the theatre a few months back in France and found it to be pretty good for a French movie ! And also Chelsea's correct with the pronunciation of Vermines
'For a french movie', made me chuckle. As if the French aren't known for basically having god tier output during (and arguably leading) the 'new extreme' era (martyrs/high tension etc).
@@Houldey Lmao yeah I couldn't help but grin seeing "for a French movie," like dang what did French movies do to homeboy 😂
Guys I'm french and trust me, you know like some of the greatest movies we've ever put out. Especially Martyrs holy shit, that movie is controversial at least in my class. But these are not """mainstream""" movies. Most of the French movies people actually care about here a the most generic run of the mill comedies that always the same type of humor. Not many people in France even know about new french extremity sadly ! We've got great movies, but sadly that's not the most common thing here
Also I was a bit skeptical when I heard classmates talk about the fact that this movie was pretty good, the first teaser trailer I saw did not do the movie justice at all and I totally brushed over it, but the second trailer showed the better shots and editing, and I got curious. I just didn't have much faith in a creature feature made in France haha. There is also "gueules noires" that a teacher of mine said that, while not groundbreaking, was still enjoyable, with miners and stuff. Oh and just a random fun fact about Vermines the guys who did the CG spiders are the same guys who make the Minions movies if I recall correctly, McGuff aka Illumination
i appreciate that the character at the end is still shown to be chill and respectful towards _regular_ spiders, even after all that shit with the weird mutant spiders.
be nice to spiders, people!
HOLY SHIT
James's Half Baked "I am not a fish..." Reference got me good... Haven't seen that movie in a while
As a french fan of Chelsea and James I'm so happy a resent movie like Vermines is talked about. Interresting to note: it's the director's frist feature length movie. It got him a first movie Cesar (french cinema award) even though it's horror and so often gets snobed. I think it's kinda cool.
Hey, let's let Chelsea talk about bugs 🤣
I loved this movie because of how much it made me scream, even though I love spiders. It was how they portrayed the spiders though. I get freaked out by under the skin stuff. I had to look up and make sure this wasn’t a trait of this spider. But the atmosphere and claustrophobia is so good! I also really liked the main character. He is absolutely an idiot, but a good natured one. I liked how he’s just a big nerd.
From Montreal, Canada, merci beaucoup de discuter de cet excellent film! ❤
I’m with Chelsea! Bugs are cool, and vital to the balance of nature. Many of them - like bees and caterpillars- are cute and many - like butterflies and praying mantises - are beautiful. I will admit to a hearty fear of spiders, though. My personal rule is that if they’re outside they’re okay, but if they come onto my turf they’re fair game.
5:10 this quote from Chelsea, along with Molly's look directly into the camera, is so damn funny to me
Flak and Zabbas look different than I imagined.
I appreciate The dynamic between the public and the police that was portrayed in this film. It was either shocking to you, or just what you've come to expect irl
Spiders vs Cops, and you end up lowkey rooting for the spiders. Fuckin’ based.
As a French, it's so cool to ear people talking about this movie. Even if it's not scary at all on my POV, it still a very well writen and directed show. And yeah, I feel that this movie can be seen as a critic of our society with racism and how they treat minority and poor people who live recluded in unsanitary and old low rent housing. The cop vs people is also reccurent theme, sadly on this movie it's one of its flaw as it's not well set up. Cheers !
Another wonderful episode, thank you.
there were a few low income housing buildings in Paris that did have bed-bugs, and a few cases in the metro (french underground) but was taken care of (clothes, bed sheets, beds completely changed) in less than a month.
Theo Christine was 27 yrs old at the time of an article/interview on Radio France December 2023
Liked this movie a lot. Looking forward to Maxxxine and Cuckoo this year.
French guy who lives in the suburbs of paris here.
Here's a few info about the building, it's called les arènes de Picasso and it's located in Noisy-le-Grand on the East side of Paris. It's also the home of the espace Abraxas, where some scenes of Hunger Games 3 where filmed as well as Brazil. And if you want to know how far from Paris, it's the middle of the trainline called the RER A which terminate at Disneyland Paris.
And Infested (or Vermines, and yes the prononciation of title and of the director's name where mostly correct, don't worry) was filmed in Noisy-le-Grand because that's where the director grew up.
13:41 As someone who has owned dozens of tarantulas, insects, and reptiles (I have a room that looks like the main character's room lol), I will say yes James there absolutely is a market for crazy exotic venomous spiders. Tarantulas regularly go for hundreds of dollars, but that can be upwards of a thousand if they're crazy rare.
Also I definitely know people who have impulse-bought spiders like how this guy does in the movie lol
I'm a French speaking Creole.
JAJ, even though you are trashing French...tu es toujour mon mec.😊
Chelsea, Je t'aime aussi!❤
As someone who lives in a city that had a “bed bug” infestation a few years ago I def believe the French one was blown outta proportion. There were also videos of bed bugs on public transit but I never actually saw any and I use public transit every day. I think it’s just a case of a handful of ppl catching videos of it and then the news picking up the story and making it seem like a widespread issue
6:31 . i’m with James on the grasshoppers. One got trapped in our air vents and I was stuck hearing it the house for three days.
Bugs are so good for the environment 🥺
What I've learned about james is that he gets really angry when he doesn't understand something 😆
Since y'all had covered Kane Pixel's The Backrooms a while back, you should really do a podcast for The Oldest View. It takes a real life event and gives it a borderline cosmic horror spin, and I'd argue it's slightly better than The Backrooms! I love both, but there's something ethereal about TOV.
Man this sounds like a very wild time. The steve Harvey line is perfect
This one was really fun. Love when a movie just grosses me out. And you know what I'll defend the main character. Is he dumb, yes. But he is also very nice to all the older people in the apartment and is always trying to help them. He's always correcting the younger kids around the elders and shows respect to everyone. He also wants his friend to be on the straight and narrow telling him to stop stealing the bikes. He's a good dude just kinda dumb and is held back by his depression over his mother.
My dedication to this channel causing me to confront my severe arachnophobia just to listen to this podcast, but I refuse to miss an episode
and yet we've never had an Attack The Block kill count or podcast...
much to think about.
My favorite days of the month are the ones when we get a new podcast!
As a tarantula hobbyist I’m offended by how excited you seem to be to murder a spider!!! Just kidding love you guys, can’t wait to check out this movie!
I'm a hobbyist too! Spider creature features definitely fall flat for people who love their fluffy bugs lol
Man I love watching the Dead Meat Podcast!!❤
Fair play to James for checking his biases with that opening scene! No one’s born woke, after all, so I have a lot more respect for someone who gets it wrong, realises it and corrects themselves. That’s honesty. That’s growth.
Any plans to cover Minus One on the podcast?
Congrats Chelsea! Your voice work is GREAT in the game.
I love it so much when you add in clips from the movies so we can better understand! Also the added in memes are hilarious love it!!!😂❤️❤️
Congrats on Killer Klowns Chelsea, so proud of your work!!
This movie definitely deserves more eyes on it! One of my favorite horror movies of the year so far and so glad to see you guys podcasting about it
There goes the French audience 😂😂😂
Not to mention, the French bug audience! 🤣
I can just hear The Binding of Isaac hearing the premise of this movie.
"INFESTED!"
Bees are great because of how we've monetized them, but I think James is actually right: spiders are the best of the bug world. Think about having more every other bug and when you don't wake up covered in bugs, thank the humble spider.
Also, loved the last 30 minutes of the movie when I was not feeling it in the middle. So, it's funny that we had flipped responses! Helped that the MMA-guy Mauthis (sp?) spearing a dude through a door to trip the final sequence.
re: The protagonists shouting at the neighbors to get inside. I think it's because they are being chased by a horde of spiders and they are saying get inside to avoid said horde of spiders. Different than the cops who are denying their escape.
"Bugs??, Fuck'em!" - Lieutenant Janesse from The Terran Federation Army
Can confirm as a healthcare professional the bed bugs are the absolute worst.
As a french canadian, i agree with james' take on the french language 😅
French fan here,
Not offended by James statements, our language is freaking weird. My American wife struggles too. 😂
Chelsea nailed the pronouncing of Vermines, totally spot on.
The bedbug thing was real, it did happen to a lot of people, but it also was blown out of proportion completely. France is such a small country that our tv news LOVES to blow things out of proportion and play on paranoïa for views. It happened to a lot of people in bigger cities but wasn't that huge invasion they claimed it was.
Also Caleb totally could be 29. Us french age weird. I just turned 30 and you'd swear I'm barely 20.
I'm French, I live near where the film was shot. It's a pretty good film, well done, especially the corridor scene
Romance languages just means they are Latin derived or a language coming from Rome.
I loved the Disco elysium reference. I think the character you were thinking of is "Racist Lorry Driver"
When the power goes out and they start flailing they are trying to activate the motion lights right? I think theres a scene earlier where Kaleb or maybe TN activates it like that, could be wrong but it was funny either way how they all do it instantly
I wanna hear yall go back and forth about pointless things like what house chores are worse lol
Yall don't even need to review anything
I’m with Chelsea, I love bugs 😂 esp Spiders 😂😂 they’re sooo cute with their lil legs and big ass eye’s 🥹
4:39 also terrified of spiders and IMMEDIATELY looking up that bug gun!!!
Love from Spain!!! You guys' podcast is my favorite ^^
Random fact/thought from a non-European: I love that the sneakers in the film are TNs (or Nike Air Max Plus) because it absolutely would be. That model is HUGE over there
The most relatable moment for any dog owner, " What are you eating?"
I'm so glad you guys covered this on the podcast! I really enjoyed this movie.❤Can I recommend Disappear Completely (Mexican) or Lord of Misrule (Irish)? I don't even care if you cover it on the podcast, just watch them. Great folk horror movies and Ralph Ineson is in Lord of Misrule.
Honestly, I thought about kms every time they included the family feud clip. Listening instead of watching really makes it jarring while on the train.
kinda late to say this but caleb’s actor is 28 for those wondering
Watching the beginning of this video as an Acadian person who also helps with bug conservation was honestly so funny
I thought of this a bit late but everyone watch survivor 5 anyway, funny how Chelsea had an alliance whit Gabriele and the Phantom one she call father and daddy.
This year has been killer for horror it feels like 2022 again. Also i saw the tv glow is more of a horror movie than 12 hour shift and upgrade were
I’m never this early (well late here in Australia)
This movie made me jump harder then any movie in years but I refuse to kill spiders, they kill gnats. I HATE GNATS 😤💀😤
I'VE NEVER BEEN THIS EARLY! WOO!
They should give it a theater release and unleash a remote controlled fake spider onto the audience.
i have many things running around my head about james' dislike of french (and bugs) and i can't quite think of a way to say them in a playful way so i'll simply leave my comment as it is.
There was a spider in my car once and I hit it so hard, I almost popped my side window out. I had to bend it back in place 😂
"Every day is meetings?"
"Always has been."
Please do sick on the podcast and also thanksgiving
I saw this and Sting and Sting was the superior SpiderMovie of the year. Had more campy sci-fi fun than Infested. But Infested was ok too
They're right about that one guy. Strong Hardie Boys vibes
I know you will never see this because I posted it too late, Anything after like 30 minutes and the creator never sees it, But at some point either on the podcast, Killcount, or even just as a joke, Could you cover the older movie about murderous ants? I don't remember the name, I saw it as a kid in the 90's, I just remember being terrified but the ants could just come up and devour you whole like a bunch of tiny parahna
I fell asleep while listening to this and had a dream about spiders 😅
I have not clicked on a video faster, finally, loved this movie.
i've seen people tweet about this movie on twitter and had no interest but now im a little interested
Hehe....I wanna die just looking at the poster 😂 but I'm curious about the film so I'm glad you're covering it!!
as i watched infested 2 weeks ago i was commenting to my friend that I almost wanted to turn the volume off because french is so gutteral sounding.. glad james felt the same
to a finnish person (language where everything is literally pronounced as it's spelled) german is absolutely NOT pronounced like it's written. you're telling me "deutsch" is "doytsh"...? nuh-uh.
I'm that crazy person who loves spiders. I'll pick them right up in my hand and put them outside. Never been bit. They're pretty harmless. I will rescue them from my families houses so they don't get hurt. But I don't like hurting any animal, except mosquitos and roaches. They're abominations.
im not from France, but i kill bed bugs for a living, and i can tell you: most places in the world have bed bugs severely worse than we do in the USA. Our government went through extensive treatments in the early 1900s in order to eradicate them from america, as well as lice, hence that scene in the titanic where they're checking heads--that was a real thing and they really did that. So, as far as bed bug crisis in France goes: it was probably moderate. Bed bugs travel on the seams of people's clothing and tend to drop off wherever, the most common places to get them are seats used by the public--theaters, restaurants, buses, etc. they also spread like bubonic plague on rats, meaning VERY fast. They tend to reproduce quickly. They're also not picky about environment, so long as food is present, clean or dirty doesn't matter to them
i would recomend checking out sting as i personally enjoyed it. it doesnt take itself too seriously which helps with giant killer spider movie
