Since my last comment tesla has lowered existing inventory AGAIN & removed leasing as an option for those discounts. Have seen as low as 36k for a base model 3 in AZ. What have you found?
Also if you need a referral link & can support, here's mind (free supercharging for 6 mo and 3 mo FSD) ts.la/robert31199
Even more attractive buying a new one as Tesla lowered the price of a new base 3 by another 1k since this video. Used cars have come down some but not enough! 2017-2019 Model 3's without any extras should be in the 20ks depending on variety of factors....
The most objective and insightful analysis I’ve seen in the 100+ videos I’ve watched on used/new Teslas! I’ve been looking at used model 3 and have been leaning towards waiting primarily to let this jittery price to cool down😂. Thank you!
Getting new Model 3 SR (especially with the double-paned glass!) certainly makes sense for those that can afford to wait for the $7.5k EV tax credit the following year. What I don’t understand here is what part of one’s tax liabilities qualify for the credit. I’d appreciate any resource here.
Excellent video!
it's post deductions income. so as the cap is 150k and standard deduction is 12k. if you made 160k but taxable income is 148k then you'd still qualify. on that 148k you'd pay considerably more than 7500 federal taxes which is where the credit applies to.
This is a great video. Thanks for sharing your extensive knowledge of the Model 3 changes. Based on this video, I plan to buy a Q4 2021 or later used model 3 RWD, to get the latest updates including the LFP battery.
Nice breakdown. Definitely a lot to consider for used one. Sounds like 2021 to make it easy. I would prefer a long range and no self driving etc. need to see where the used market is at with those inputs.
yep exactly
Very informative. Thanks
Thank you for all the great information. You answered many of my questions and I gained a lot of insight as I prepare to purchase my first EV!
glad it was helpful! you're going to love the change :)
Thx. Very informative.
thanks for the great information
I had a choice between the 2021. Model 3 in white standard model for $33000 with 22000 Miles or the 2018 model 3 with 30000 Miles. But it was long-range with self driving and I chose the 2018.
Have you regretted it yet? And would you recommend it for someone else?
Really helpful!
Nice.
Thanks for all the first hand information Robert. I am doing all my research on if I should move over to the EV market and I obviously love Teslas. Do you think it would be worth having a Tesla if you didn't have the at home charger? I live in Los Angeles so I'll definitely have a good amount of options for chargers around, but I'll likely not have an at home charger while living in an apartment.
it's definitely more inconvenient. depends on how much you drive per day.
if you have secure parking and can leave sentry mode off and only need to charge every 3 to 4 days then worth it.
even having a regular plug can help.
the best situation I've heard is for those without home chargers have them at work or at places they frequent.
Great video. Thanks for your insights! I am waiting to see the used prices drop further. What do you think is a good price point for a late 2020 refreshed long range to look out for? I appreciate your input. Thanks!
depends on a few factors. depending on miles, paint etc. like high 30s to 40k
appreciate you 🙏
i bought a used Y the day before the price drops😭
oh man! that's tough luck. hope you still enjoy driving it
It is in the back of my mind too. A lot of volatility with this company and market in general.
Awesome tips. Very informative especially from someone very confused about the different versions of mode 3. How about the suspension for these? Any upgrades Tesla did to the newer versions?
yeah new non performance 3 and Y have a newer more comfortable suspension (softer I believe). I find the 3 before 3 still very comfortable.

Great video! Thanks for sharing your Tesla knowledge. Since the price drop and $7,500 tax rebate, I was planning on purchasing a brand new base Model 3 as my first Tesla. But after seeing this video, I am considering looking for a used Model 3 Performance. I'm curious on your take if you think a 2021 Model 3 Performance with around 20-30k miles should be worth around the same price as a base Model 3 ($36,490)
assuming all other options the same and the 2021 will be a refresh I'd put your number on the low side. sellers will take longer to adjust prices.
if you can get one for 40k or so I'd say that's fair assuming it's in good shape.
once March hit as well and tax credit decreases the value of all cars will go up depending on how that shakes out.
@@RobertSchmitt assuming the $7500 decreases in March. I’m not sure that you can count on much with EVs.
Awesome video! I’ve been trying to explain to those around me that a lot of the used Teslas were still overpriced but, from now on…. I’ll refer them to this video! Do you know what the income limit is for the EV credit?
75k for used. 150k new per person
used requires car to be 2+ years old and 25k or less.
Upward inflection?
Def talks like a girl from California.
Do you think a 2018 Tesla model 3 long range for $26,000 with 83,000 miles and Fsd is worth it?
no due to the outdated hardware.
now if you van get it for 25k and get the tax credit for used cars then you'll get it for 21k post tax credit and that seems fair :)
So you can walk away for $188 from your tesla, but my question is what happens with your down payment? Do you forfeit that? I leased a tesla model 3 yesterday, and regret it strongly and for me in the app it’s showing as $1,425 total due
Excellent content Robert, thank you. As I am replying to this post, I am looking at 2018 Model 3 LR battery with 66K miles at a cost of $30K. Would this be a good buy?
I think 30k is too much for that year and miles especially out of warranty.
Buying a new base 3 will have more usable range, full warranty, much better looking exterior and interior, heat pump, insulation, tires, less wear and tear for 6k more after tax credit.
imo for yours i wouldn't pay more than 26k before taxes. It will be faster, have subwoofer but not much more benefit there.
this is still too much imo but example is 1 year newer similar miles for 29k www.truecar.com/used-cars-for-sale/listing/5YJ3E1EB3KF511060/2019TeslaModel%203
@@RobertSchmitt Thanks for the insight...may be rethinking my purchase.
@@rluna1988 a lot of sitting inventory at dealers may have higher purchase prices from them, so will take longer before prices drop and they take a loss.....
2021 Model 3 Long Range, 19k miles, comes with Acceleration boost for 43k. Good deal?
that's fair wouldn't call it a good deal. assuming taken care of! maybe a little high bc new is 46k after Tax credit w acceleration boost.
so only 3k difference for 20k miles and 2 years old.
you will get USS tho for parking 😅
get it for 41k and you got a deal
Just curious, bought a 2019 model 3 performance with no add ons with 45k miles for 35.5k in California. Does that price seem fair? Did I get a good deal? Car is white on white. Id say a 8.5/10 on the exterior and a 9.5/10 on the interior.
good deal subjective. I would not have purchased that bc of how much progress future cars have made vs 2019 and being pre refresh.
it's not a bad deal but I value the other improvements over the speed and wheels and spoiler and suspension.
i saw a used either 2018 labeled mid range. what the different between standard, mid, and long range? I think it was listed for about 31k
those were the names used years ago.
mid was offered (originally about 265 miles max charge) with premium interior.
standard had about 220 range or so and long was 310 to 325.
I'm considering buying a used 2021 Model 3 with 15k miles for $29k.. would you recommend that vs buying new?
Red? Lr? Performance? FSD?
@@RobertSchmittit's a standard range 2021 model 3, no FSD. Seems to be a fantastic car at a great price, but wondering if it's a better longterm play to buy a new one
Very helpful video! I’m looking at a $35800 used 2021 model 3 which has 13726 mile odometer and enhanced autopilot. Do you have any comments on the price? It is high? Thank you!
standard or long range?
@@RobertSchmitt Sorry I forgot to mention. It’s standard.
@@Jy-gt6ix color? wheels? any other addons
@@RobertSchmitt exterior white and interior black. 18” Aero wheels. No more addons.

I found a 2020 tesla at a dealership around 33k so you think that's a good price?
what model? miles? other info?
I want me a used Tesla for under 25k that doesn't crazy miles so I get the 4k tax credit
it will get there!
Excellent video, thank you.
