A Bronx Tale is one of my all time favorite movies. I saw it in the theater when it came out. And had the video cassette back in the day. Just a awesome movie
older c was also in sopranos he was one of chris friends that tony kills after he robs a poker game. he went to prison in real life after a burglary where his partner killed someone.
Lorenzo saying he thinks we should 'stay with our own,' when it comes to marriage, is particularly ironic for Robert De Niro to deliver, as both of his wives have been black women, and all six of his children are biracial.
When Chazz Palminteri narrated a tribute to Edward G. Robinson he said, "People think actors put masks on. I think actors take masks off." That's what he did here.
Interesting personal note for me, I used to work with someone that was in the movie. He was one of the people playing stickball in the beginning. His little claim to fame, he just happened to live in the neighborhood when they filmed the movie and got to be an extra. He did get to meet Robert DiNero and Chazz Palminteri though.
I love this movie! Growing up, it was very common to get great life lessons from bad men as well as my father. You end up trying to combine that into a life for yourself as you shape your own morality. I identified with this story so much.
You both are awesome and I was so excited to watch you react to this. A Bronx Tale is my favorite movie of all time. The guy who plays Sonny, Chazz, wrote this about his own life. He witnessed a murder as a child and grew up around all these guys. According to Chazz, even Eddie Mush was a real person. He had such bad luck that when he died, his body was being driven to the cemetery and his hearse caught a flat tire.

Chazz Palminteri was a struggling writer/actor with very little money when he created and mounted "A Bronx Tale". Great job as always, guys. I recently watched one of your reactions from a few years ago. You both have gotten so much more comfortable in front of the camera and your after movie talk analysis has become much more nuanced and well done.👍 I grew up in the Bronx (but years later) so it's always fun to see it portrayed on film even if I found out that to portray the 60's Bronx they had to film elsewhere in NYC
Lilo Brancato actually went to jail many years after this. Was robbing a house with a friend, who wound up killing an off-duty cop in the process. Didn't learn anything from Sonny, after all. P.S. He was also in Crimson Tide - he was Vossler, the guy desperately trying to fix the fried communications panel.
If I'm not mistaken, this film was DeNiro's directorial debut. I went to see it just based on that and expecting him to play the Sonny role, but came away impressed with Chazz Palmenteri. I agree with other commenters, this film is very underrated. It got mixed reviews when it opened but I liked it and thought DeNiro did a good job. Check out The Good Shepherd with Matt Damon which he also directed.
favorites watching my favorite! the c and Jane love story is legendary also I love the insight from the mrs at the end where she references the scene at the end with Pesci and C turning him down and how it showed how it was more about his relationship with sonny and not the life per se. That never clicked for me and I love that you caught that, very perceptive
A Bronx Tale is one of my absolute favorite movies! Another amazing film with Robert De Niro is "SLEEPERS". It is such a twisted story with an extremely ironic surprise ending! "Dolan's Cadillac" is also a twisted story with an ironic ending. So great!
This movie should be shown to every 10 year old for educational purposes...there's so many lessons about needless racism, dealing with debts, snitching etc. Plus the working man and the outlaw...
I agree. Like C, I also saw someone get shot. I was 10 years old. I never ran so hard and crooked in my life. I know the guy saw me because I was watching older guys play basketball. All of a sudden the court cleared and it happened. I remember when the woman died because I read it in the newspaper. It was also 3 days after my older sister's wedding.
the film was adapted from the musical theater of same title by Chazz Palminteri himself, is an autobiographical play, his real name is Calogero Lorenzo Palminteri. a recurring line that comes in mind is "the saddest thing in life is wasted talent", ironic the way it mirrors the choices of Lillo Brancato, but at least he's trying to turn his life around...
I was literally searching for a bronx tale Reactions last week and I could barely find any but then out of the blue I see this! and a channel that I actually watch, awesome
Numbers is a racket where A bookie who normally hung out in a bar or a club. What is brought money and you placed a bet normally on a three digit number. Different forms of the game. Got this number from different things for example, maybe The first three numbers of the stock market for the next day. It was mostly played by working class people. The bookie would have runners who would take the bets and bring them to the bookie. Often called the Italian lottery. But you played because I was only a few dollars to play and you might make $100. or better.
Before the state lottery, the mob used to take bets on the last three numbers of the daily track attendence. If the track drew 1567 people. The winning daily "number" for that day would be 567.
13:08, the best part. How A Bronx Tale was so close to the movie Goodfellows and still have new original ideas to bring to it. An underrated masterpiece.
That last line of the film couldn't be more ironic for the actor Lillo Brancato who playe C. "I learned the greatest gift of all...the saddest thing in life is wasted talent; and the choices that you make will shape your life forever..." Brancato was charged with second-degree murder, and his trial began on November 17, 2008. On December 22, 2008, a jury found him not guilty of murder, but found him guilty of first-degree attempted burglary. On January 9, 2009, a judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison. On December 31, 2013, he was released on parole.

"The saddest thing in life is wasted talent, and the choices you make will shape your life forever. " Damn good quote.
saddest thing is that lillo brancato wasted his talent and and up in jail
Such a great film. I love your movie reactions and I really appreciate how much depth and insight you offer. It really feels like you value each film and try to understand it as best you can. Love watching you! :)
I love this movie. You guys should do "Sleepers" next. Two great underrated 90s films with Robert DeNiro.
@14:22 the funniest part of the movie 😄 Mario running and looking backwards at the real gangsters for approval and scared as fuck at the same time.
Fun fact "Chazz" Palminteri's real name is Calogero, and his middle name is Lorenzo
And his father’s name was Lorenzo who was a bus driver.
So underrated. Fun fact but the school they actually shot at was in Brooklyn (Madison)
Great job as always, guys. I recently watched one of your reactions from a few years ago. You both have gotten so much more comfortable in front of the camera and your after movie talk analysis has become much more nuanced and well done.👍
I grew up in the Bronx (but years later) so it's always fun to see it portrayed on film even if I found out that to portray the 60's Bronx they had to film elsewhere in NYC
You forgot to mention that he was a crackhead.
One of the best movies ever. Real as it gets with the life lessons
This is in the Mount Rushmore of Mob Films for me , next to The Godfather , Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco. Great Story , Characters , Pace.
Just watched the movie before reacting to tbr’s reaction. Fantastic movie, can’t believe I waited this long to see it.
favorites watching my favorite! the c and Jane love story is legendary also I love the insight from the mrs at the end where she references the scene at the end with Pesci and C turning him down and how it showed how it was more about his relationship with sonny and not the life per se. That never clicked for me and I love that you caught that, very perceptive
Another great reaction. A Bronx Tale is a classic in the gangster genre.
A Bronx Tale is one of my absolute favorite movies! Another amazing film with Robert De Niro is "SLEEPERS". It is such a twisted story with an extremely ironic surprise ending! "Dolan's Cadillac" is also a twisted story with an ironic ending. So great!
11:29 “this is your test?” 😂😂
Don’t laugh!… i tried it and it worked 😊
Lillo Bramcato was also Vossler in “Crimson Tide.”
We need more warp speed!
Chazz Palminteri (Sonny) wrote this. You must see him in THE USUAL SUSPECTS(Gramercy Pictures, 1995), an excellent modern crime-melodrama.
So glad you two watched this. I’ve been wanting reactors to try this one for a while.
This movie should be shown to every 10 year old for educational purposes...there's so many lessons about needless racism, dealing with debts, snitching etc. Plus the working man and the outlaw...
I guarantee that they'll learn more life experience from this than Finding Nemo for example...
Classic. "Now yous can't leave."
Finally!!! I have rarely seen anyone react to this underappreciated gem!
I haven't seen the review because I'm watching an ad but man I am so excited to watch this. One of my favorite films if not my favorite all time.
This was Rob D's directorial debut!! Great job!!
One of the best mob movies I've seen. Definitely top 5.
Hey TBR, this movie was written by Chazz Palmentari the actor who played Sonny based on his life growing up. The C character is him.
@ 3:30 .....This is how Notorious BIG has gotten his inspiration of Frank White
the film was adapted from the musical theater of same title by Chazz Palminteri himself, is an autobiographical play, his real name is Calogero Lorenzo Palminteri.
a recurring line that comes in mind is "the saddest thing in life is wasted talent", ironic the way it mirrors the choices of Lillo Brancato,
but at least he's trying to turn his life around...
You saw Chazz Palminteri/Sonny in The Usual Suspects where he played the detective questioning Verbal.
I was literally searching for a bronx tale Reactions last week and I could barely find any but then out of the blue I see this! and a channel that I actually watch, awesome
“Now youse can’t leave.”
🥺🥺🥺
"Nobody cares!"
Such an underrated classic, full of great quotes. Love this movie.
0:40 I feel like this kinda actually captured the times because it felt so low budget and more raw. One of my favs
17:55 Its crazy how thats how it used to be. C couldn't go into that neighborhood
But you played because I was only a few dollars to play and you might make $100. or better.
As always, you're both very thoughtful and perceptive. Top notch work!!! 👏 👏 👏
I'm loving this De Niro playlist. This is such a underrated gem of a film.
Such a great movie! It's up there with Forrest Gump, green mile, Shawshank imo. So many great life lessons in it. Amazing soundtrack too.
Thank you I've been waiting for a reactor to react to this. Oneofmy favorite movies of all time
Before the state lottery, the mob used to take bets on the last three numbers of the daily track attendence.
"I learned the greatest gift of all...the saddest thing in life is wasted talent; and the choices that you make will shape your life forever..."
Brancato was charged with second-degree murder, and his trial began on November 17, 2008. On December 22, 2008, a jury found him not guilty of murder, but found him guilty of first-degree attempted burglary. On January 9, 2009, a judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison. On December 31, 2013, he was released on parole.
