Great !! Why the snobbishness ? BW has brought many more new fans to the 4 Freshmen than could be counted. God Bless the 4Freshmen and The Beach Boys !
I'm right there with you, Annie. The most recent group is acceptable but the lead is mostly falsetto, without the natural high voice that blends seamlessly into the nasal falsetto that Flanagan, Wilson and Eichnenberger have mastered.
I don't think the audience is laughing in mockery at all, I think it's delight, and I think I can explain: this is an absolutely uncanny rendition of the original recording. The guys in this version of the FF were the very best - even Ross Barbour, one of the original founders of the group 50 years ago, said so. Their individual vocal ranges and mastery of harmony enable them here to perform a challenging arrangement live - it's like a time machine, like hearing the original Beach Boys live and young again. Brian was offered a job with the BB specifically because he totally NAILS Brian WIlson's parts. Listen to the applause at the end!! They're not laughing out of silliness or "hokeyness" - they're THRILLED at this unexpected surprise. There may be a few jazz snobs in the audience - looks like Brian may be thinking about that - but they're won over. Sure the words are "silly' - it's a teen-age love song. Guarantee they all went home talking about how great it was.
Yes Brian Eichenberger currently sings falsetto for the Mike Love Beach Boys Band...because in late 2019, Jeff Foskett announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 anaplastic thyroid cancer. Jeff had been singing the Falsetto parts in the touring Beach Boys and Brian Wilson Band for many years. Matt Jardine (Al's son) currently sings the Falsetto parts for the current Brian Wilson Band.
Brian Wilson took the U inquest harmony style of the original Four Freshmen and made it palatable to the general public while keeping it real for the purists. Now, THAT'S true genius. And this offspring group that is now the Four Freshmen know it and get it, and they nailed this tribute to the guy who always paid homage to his initial inspiration. Talk about what goes around...
It's a little sad to hear the fun at the expense of the great Beach Boys, but those harmonies are sincerely sung and arranged. The other video I've seen pays deserved respect to Brian Wilson and the guys who always paid their respects to the talent of the Four Freshmen.
I did see an interview in which Brian E. said he was a fan of Brian Wilson's and when he found out they both were fans of the original FF, he was amazed. All of them are just fantastic. I love the harmonies.
On the laughing: I think it's the old thing where jazz fans have to maintain their hipness and act a bit supercilious and above things and so they laugh a bit at the Beach Boys. Now, I could sort of understand this if it was the Sixties. But really, this is 2010, they're actually showing how gauche they are.
No retakes required!!! just pure instinctive harmonies,as if we had any doubt as to who taught the beach boys how, these guys are as good as ever and are worthy of being Bob Flanagans prodiges.
I think they're laughing because it sounds like these guys did the song as a dare... and the audience thought they were kidding or joking when the band said they'd do it.
Don't quite understand what the audience find so amusing, perhaps because I'm English, but a lovely version nonetheless. Love the added Maj7th in the verse.
They're laughing because they're imitating the Beach Boys famous song.. who rather followed the 4 Freshmen harmony. Brian Wilson copied the 4 Freshmen. Just American good humor. Both groups are American legends in their eras. You probably know all this.
Why are they laughing? It's a great and beautiful performance. Also what is the deal with this? Are there two incarnations of the band? Could someone explain this?
He has PERFECTED this song to where he sounds BETTER Than the original!!! IT's ashame the cackling Hyena's are laughing... Good thing he's oblivious to the fools.
+tiffsaver That's very interesting...and VERY TRUE!! First got around the the FF in 1957...Beach Boys...1963...thought their 'sound' was "familiar"...LOVE this kind of music...I'm 77 now...and 'Rarin' to go'!
Arya Stark Roger L this group is a continuation of the four freshmen, they still use the name but don’t have any of the original members from the four freshmen that was popular in the early 50s. brian wilson was really influenced by the four freshmen and you can really hear that in a lot of the beach boys’ music, which the original four freshmen didn’t like because they felt like the beach boys ripped them off. there’s famously been some tension between the two that the audience is probably aware of, because at one point the idea of the four freshmen doing a beach boys song would have been outlandish. but now, since these younger four freshmen discovered the music of the original group through the beach boys, the hatchet has been buried between the two and i think this performance, while it is an excellent rendition of a beautiful song, is meant to be kind of a funny nod to the past animosity. i agree it’s a little weird the audience laughs all the way through but i think that might have been what they were going for.
absolutely. but of course, you have to hear the harmony in your head before you can hear it. And I think the Beach Boys heard the harmonies. Brian was just the genius who wrote them down.
Not bad at all. Brian would have had them doing another ten takes though to make sure they got it right! :-) Who are these lot? Grandkids of the original Freshmen??
I thought that as well, but it's a beautiful cover of a beautiful song and I just thought it was a little bit disrespectful to the guys. They seemed like they were doing it on a dare, but they also were taking it seriously.
They're laughing because "Surfer Girl" is the 1962 equivalent of a cheesy Bieber song today, and the Freshmen have always had kind of a comedy act going...today it's surfer girl, back then it was Ross Barbour's version of "Sweet Lorraine"...I love the Beach Boys, and Brian Wilson's melody and harmony are fantastic but hell, "Surfer Girl" is hokey, nobody took it seriously even then.
Yes, isn't it weird to think people hear things completely differently based off their ears? Like, if I listen to this I hear four distinct seperate tones and voices. An untrained ear or someone who doesn't listen to harmony music would hear an unidentifiable blend of the four.
Don't know why this was funny, or why the TFF were making fun of it themselves. It's a beautiful song.....certainly shouldn't be made fun of or laughed at. 😐
Great !! Why the snobbishness ? BW has brought many more new fans to the 4 Freshmen than could be counted. God Bless the 4Freshmen and The Beach Boys !
Gets better every time I hear this!!!!
These 4 are my favorite of the Four Freshman.
I'm right there with you, Annie. The most recent group is acceptable but the lead is mostly falsetto, without the natural high voice that blends seamlessly into the nasal falsetto that Flanagan, Wilson and Eichnenberger have mastered.

Outstanding performance.
Brian the guy on guitar doing lead vocal is now with Mike love and Bruce Johnson the touring beach boys playing bass
Didn’t he do the soundstage with al Jardine and Brian Wilson too?

Offspring Group ? you got it backwards Tim.
@@mauricebyrne2089 I think he means that this manifestation of the Four Freshmen is an offspring of the original 1950s Freshmen
amazing. Tony you're spot on, those harmonies are awesome. They make it sound so easy...love to see them in concert.
Brian Echinberger now sings with Mike Loves version of The Beach Boys!
God I LOVE the changes in some parts to go true four-part!!!
It's a little sad to hear the fun at the expense of the great Beach Boys, but those harmonies are sincerely sung and arranged. The other video I've seen pays deserved respect to Brian Wilson and the guys who always paid their respects to the talent of the Four Freshmen.
All kinds of AWESOME!!!
Only FANTASTIC!!!! Listen to those harmonies.
Most Excellent -- brings me back to 7th and 8th grade dances.

Good job guys
Excellent!
Great job
Hello.my friend
Love your videos! Thank you!

Perfect!!!!!
Nice to hear, but why are groups like this not touring the Uk? Amazing sound, would love to hear live.
Brian Wilson was inspired by and was a devotee of FF...he brought jazz harmonies to R and R in true genius. He made no bones about his love of FF
I liked this batch of Freshmen. Brian Eichenberger is now the lead vocal for the Beach Boys
No retakes required!!! just pure instinctive harmonies,as if we had any doubt as to who taught the beach boys how, these guys are as good as ever and are worthy of being Bob Flanagans prodiges.

Oh, I agree. it is a beautiful version of a beautiful song. It's in in my faves/ BTW you have excellent taste in music
I think Bob Ferreira was hamming it up a bit for laughs. He got them.
Thank you very much! I assume you do as well if you are explaining this. I think songs with really beautifully written vocal harmonies are the best.
Why are they laughing? It's a great and beautiful performance. Also what is the deal with this? Are there two incarnations of the band? Could someone explain this?

Not better than the original but yeah
FUNNY. I just posted a comment on a Beach Boys thread just now that if there wasn't The Four Freshmen, there wouldn't be a Beach Boys!!! LOL.
+tiffsaver That's very interesting...and VERY TRUE!! First got around the the FF in 1957...Beach Boys...1963...thought their 'sound' was "familiar"...LOVE this kind of music...I'm 77 now...and 'Rarin' to go'!

It's not how young you ARE, but how young you THINK. God bless, and Happy New Year!!!
So TRUE lol!! Here I am...God Bless you too...[some months later..!]. Still locking into "CLASS". LOVE [CLASS!!] 78. now..HANGIN' IN!!
Now that Brian's with the Beach Boys, he must have the walker assignment. Never see him anymore, yet hear his fabulous voice
this isn't funny. I would be pissed because I know how much time and effort goes into something like that
you guys keep it this was awsome
I agree..why all the laughing from the audience?

Have they ever sang In My Room?
Nice full circle!
is this the first time they ever did this song together?? they did this from from scratch?? wow
THE BES!
What sucks about youtube is now they stop your video only to ask you if you want to keep watching every 2 minutes
Woah, the original 4F did this same song.
Not bad at all. Brian would have had them doing another ten takes though to make sure they got it right! :-) Who are these lot? Grandkids of the original Freshmen??
Damn correct a type: should be unique...
I thought that as well, but it's a beautiful cover of a beautiful song and I just thought it was a little bit disrespectful to the guys. They seemed like they were doing it on a dare, but they also were taking it seriously.
WTF? Why are people laughing?
Ignorant, tone-deaf fucks....
They're a bunch of goddamn hyenas.

珍しいと思ったら 新しい フレシュメン でした。
でも これは ビーチ ボースの 方が いいですね。
Why are people laughing at this?
Why are ppl laughing?😮
What is so damned funny about this song? Is surfing funny? It may be the best song they've done in years. The audience needs to pull their head out.
don't no why people are laughing
boy is he not doing Brians falsetto justice. yikes.
Crow is stupid. They are ACE.
Great song...and nothing funny about it.
Not nearly like The Beach Boys! 😂
Can someone please explain what's so funny ??
You're just pretenders either way...
I hit dislike because the audience is really annoying.
i dont get whats so funny

I really prefer original Beach Boys song.
