solosage all the work none of the satisfaction. It's basically anarchy the video game. all this cool sounding stuff is available but the work needed to get there is staggering, the resource requirements are designed for large group participation and once you do tech up the only thing to do is group up and oppress/destroy the nearby people who are struggling to eke out a pitiful existence in your shadow/blind spots.
Started banning people now that are calling me a dishonest liar, some have said I ran the game in low memory mode just so it would run shit, fan boys are really sad people. I don't mind you disagreeing with the review but am not taking all that fan boy abuse.
As far as i can tell in this video you are making 4 complaints. 1 Dinos are too grindy and revolve around a mechanic that is not fun. 2 The game is still full of bugs, many of which have been around since day 1. 3 server transfers ruining Official PvP. 4 paid DLC in an early access game. There is nothing dishonest about pointing out things that are absolutely true. Don't let the fanboys get you down man, your review is spot on. Edit: oh forgot the bit about the game running like garbage on all platforms. Yup. thats true too.
TBH this post proves I can handle criticism but there is a huge difference between criticism and people accusing me of rigging the graphics settings in the video to make Ark look bad.
As for the reddit I have never been to them nor will I ever visit that so am not really bothered whats posted I won't ever read it :) I think there are about 30 posts on this thread that disagree with my video, why are they not deleted if I can't take criticism? The guys posting stuff like UA-camr can't handle critics are running to the fan boy nest with their tails between their legs because they totally failed to prove this video wrong.
See i get why you said what you did about ARK and it is a heap of shite now, but im just holding on that maybe one day they'll pull their heads out of their arses and make it better like we were all promised.
@@KilyanAustin I got 1100 hours I think I'm entitled to my own opinion at this point and if you disagree good for you. Would you like a congressional medal of honor or perhaps a peace prize. 🙄
I never see how a font can convey anything. It's choosing a style of writing - it means nothing. I do everything in comic sans these days - gets the mouth-breathers out in the open.
It's the equivalent of judging someone based on their looks. The person isn't creating the font - it means nothing, so why would you judge based on it. The only amateur thing would be to judge based on a font.
If you listen carefully to what he says, its not actual bashing. He speaks the truth - early game bugs are still there. Adding dinos doesnt make the game better, it adds to a continual loop game mechanic that forces players to keep playing lest they lose their dinos. Ark is a perfect example of players self-immolation. The more they play, the more they are locked in. private, pvp, pve, all the same flaw. The actual content of the game is laughably weak. The playerbase could sustain for many, but look at what the majority of servers offer? twats. It hasnt just "not evolved", it has actually regressed. Can i get my 2600+ hours back? ffs.
yeah open world games are awesome.. the only type of game i'll play.. open world rpg and if its sandbox, even better. i like to make my own fun and do what i want.. but be forced down a linear story campaign every video game
For people saying that the ARK Expansion was to pay for their $40 Million law suit, here are some more facts for you. Ark sold 4 million copies on PC up to April 2016 which is about $109 million minus steams 30% = $76 million and a further 1 million on Xbox which is $34 million They have sold millions more copies since then on PS4 and Xbox and PC so who knos how many more millions. Fact is the lawsuit was for $40 million, so where did all the money go? Wages :)
Worth A Buy, I really love youre other reviews but this is just total shit. I have played 500 hours on ARK, not thousands, and I completed it. I think you didnt look at the options. The game has been updating for years now. Including an update every month. They dont need to apologize you shit Maybe the expansion was to be able to extend the updates of the normal ARK. By the way, they got less money then your stupid calculations because of the steam sales. If you dont like waiting on tames, just put taiming on 10x or even more. Your review is total shit and the atmosphere of this game is great, I would recommend putting taming higher and playing on PvE. Thumb down for Worth A Buy Edit: they dont need to optimize yet as they are still in early access, therefore not being a full, bug-free game. And at last, wages also need to paid for fuck sake. You twot.
G Worthy don't excuse the bullshit. They abused how early access works due to them not fixing many of the game's issues and instead releasing separate DLC. Plus this crap they are doing is also betraying people who brought the early access game to support it's development; in return all Wild Card did is spit in their supporters faces by not completing the game and instead working on a separate project.
Stijn Lievaart yes they have: the basic idea of EA is so you can release an unfinished game so people can buy your product (knowing that theyll get a finished game at some point) to support you. All Wild Card have done is release a buggy/unoptimized game, add some new dinosaurs in now and again and then make and release a separate piece of DLC. So yeah they did betray their supporters and new new added dinosaurs will change that: you can't polish a turd.
BTW the taming process can actually be sped up massively by the server host. It depends on which server you play on. You have hosts that speed up the taming to 5x or even 10x faster. Makes the game far more enjoyable. The host can also set the multiplier for how much less food and water you need to make it more realistic...just saying some of those tedious things Mack explained can be altered yourself (in singleplayer) or by the server host (in multiplayer). But I def agree with Mack regarding the paid DLC and shit optimization.
I have amended the bit about Ark winning the Steam awards, I was sure they won but apparently they did not, the bit about offering the sheep as an incentive was true though, you can read about it here. www.polygon.com/2016/12/28/14100390/ark-survival-evolved-steam-awards
Worth A Buy their logic which is used by most AAA devs is optimization is for last pass throughs . Early access is just another way of saying throw money at alpha or pre alpha builds I assume there is about a year of dev time left on this.
+Worth A Buy I agree. The bugs need fixing. But acting like the devs have done fuckall is somewhat uncalled for. The bugs are inexcusable. But the game is not abandoned. You're somewhat misrepresenting the game a bit. I mean look at the comments. People are comparing it to the atrocities the DAYZ devs have done. They are working on the game. It will come out. I love you Mack. But being a huge ARK fan you kind of triggered me to be honest.
I tried it a few months back on my 6700k/970. It legit ran at 35 fps on medium-high settings. It's the most badly optimized pile of shit I've ever played in my entire life. Cheers Mack.
I got a 980 Ti and at 1440p lowest settings I only got 110 fps (and it looks like complete garbage at all low) and at medium I got around 40 fps, and epic? A whopping 15 fps
Meeesj Yeah I wish A3 was more optimised but the level of simulation and map scale make it somewhat forgivable, Ark doesn't have anywhere near this it seems more that they don't optimise assets enough and handle LOD properly, shame really.
Best most inovative fps created in the last years. Been here from closed beta, and still every dlc that drops changes the meta so much , that it feels like you get a new game. Its.Focking.Great.
Mack please revisit again in 2023 and comment on how the Devs have now abandoned the original version and are now asking for 50 bucks for the "new upgraded" version...same game just newer engine port..and they want more money and you even have to buy the game AND dlc all over again if you want to play this game on official servers as the devs are stopping all support for the "old" version....do i hear that bell ringing yet Mack?...
The game may be fun. And some maybe enjoying it. But I'm absolutely with Mack's side on this one. Putting fun aside, the commercial concept of this game highlights everything wrong about early access games now. Developers release the game filled with bugs for a price and never bothers to finish the game. This atrocity has to stop. Those enjoying the game should look at the macro picture and boycott this game and it's likes.
''Spared no expense' on immersion.'' Expertly inserted Jurassic Park reference, thumbs up, subscribed. (Oh wait I've been subbed to you since your Mack and Mesh days)
Thanks for all the help @Worth A Buy, I love watching your videos and they really help when Im looking for a game. And your just too funny with your damn bell Lmao
If you Host your own server or play Single Player you can Decrease the Taming Time, you can Increase the amount of Resource's you gather for example if you pick up 1 Small Stone, I've made it so I get 10 rather than only 1 etc.
3K hours in this game, and still agree with eveything you've said. But private servers and mod support kept this thing alive. Wouldn't want to bother with this on official servers.
I have over 6k hours in on this game over 2 accounts and stopped playing June last year. It is exactly as you described in this review, a complete lock in maintaining, whilst the devs adds dino's dino's and more fucking dino's and put aside issues that need addressing. Also yes they should not be having DLC on an early access game, we paid to test the game and to find the bugs and iron out the bugs and get the game to a decent standard. Wildcard have totally lost the fucking plot on this game, if I could I would bitch slap the shit out of Jat.
43 years old, retired - kids all grown and woman does her own shit. I can attest I have the perfect life. That said, I quit ark last June. I think many guys would love to be in my situation to be perfectly honest.
SadisticFella I respect that. I'm a little jealous that in high school I can't play as much and being fucked in the ass hard about college and what about.
I recently got this and I've already put a TON of hours into it! Way better than I expected it to be. I havent experienced any technical issues recently only when i first got it. Now all those issues are obsolete on my system (1070, i5 6600k, 3000 ddr4 ram). I HIGHLY recommend it. **AND, WORTHABUY, PLEASE PICK UP YOUR FIELD OF VIEW SLIDER**
I got it on my ps4- just a normal one not a special graphics or epensive one, and i have had no framerate or crash issues as of now- perhaps it's because it has now been fixed? I didn't play it when this review was made
great video as usual mate, I always come here for no bs pro pc gaming view and it never lets me down! :D Ark was fun for about two hours, untill the long ass taming starts or you join a guild and they already have a huge house etc then it can be more fun longer
Great review Funny thing is that when Ark first was released on Steam and got alot of hate for being so badly optimaized, they devolopers stated that optimaization was luckely one of their biggest strenths. Guess not
Day Z,H1Z1, and ark, I don't know when or if they will pass the early access stage, but they show us something terrible, is that survival MMO doesn't have to be finished at all to be sellable. And I have to admit I have a lot of fun with ark playing it with a friend, I don't regret that, and I believe this is the main problem, developpers don't really seems to have to make efforts to make it more attractive, it's a survival MMO.
H1Z1 and ARK have extremely active devs. Updates come monthly for ARK. You wrote so much without even knowing really anything on these games. They've made great progress. Do they need improvement? Hell to the yes. But they aren't abandoned. Far from it. Ark devs have stated a release date. It's extremely popular on consoles. The most prevalent survival game other than minecraft. Give the game a chance before jumping on the early access hate. Bugger off with that. Also what DAYZ did is inexcusable. Fuck DAYZ.
Also the singleplayer for ARK needs improvement. But I don't see what you want from Wildcard. When people survived in the wilderness thousands of years ago they survived in groups. Not alone. You will naturally do better with a tribe.
It's relatively easy to make these games because there's hardly any content! You need a sandbox, you need some mechanics like crafting, some enemies and you just let it go! There's no story, there's no real world crafting because most of them are generated. It's just lazy and this early access BS exactly confirms it. Dont buy from these companies
chris smith what do you love specifically? The survival side is shallow (build base = win until raided), the PvP is obnoxious due to offline raiding being optimal, taming on vanilla is a full time job, endgame is non existent. Performance is a joke, combat is a mix of hit-scan weapons vs explosives/Dino-grapple exploration has no pay off. You are playing a slow burning thunder dome game where you and your patience enters but neither can leave intact.
IMMentat i play on a 2 monthly wipe 5x/10x everything with usually around 50 people on it. I enjoy building bases for the month and at the end of the first month i defend and attack others. I enjoy taming my creatures and breeding them. I enjoy even the gathering in the game. I enjoy meeting new people and either attacking or making friends out of them. Within the two months taking on the bosses is not an option so thats out of the question. And since its a 10x tame i dont have to sit there for 10 hours taming a rex. And yes i do enjoy the combat even though i agree it can use work. Just because you havent experienced the right side of the game doesnt mean you know what everything else is seeing in it.
IMMentat and on the performance side. I run a gtx 960 and i5 4440. I havent crashed in months. And i play on high to epic settings. I understand others have a lot of problems with this game but i havent had those problems so as mack has said i can only say how ive seen it.
Btw Mack just a heads up, ARK is now updated to come along with the free 'ARK: Survival of the fittest' and is now selling itself for £49.99 and that's without the dlc's included
This game is worth the buy, you skipped the option to increase taming speeds, gather speeds, craft speeds, difficulty levels of dinos, and pretty much everything that you can change, great video but sucks u skipped that
I stopped playing official servers within 2 months of launch, well hosted servers have kept me going for 1400 hours. If I had to play on official servers I'd have played it for 4 months tops XD
Give a reason, the taming argument, addressed as someone who's played the game he's right its retarded how long that takes. The fps is still shit, popin is fucking horrendous, and the spawn thing is spot on, get stuck in the north and your fucked. You fanboys piss me off. Criticize the things you like to make it better.
I really appreciate this review, I bought this game when I had a ps4and I loved it!, however, I have just purchased my first PC and I really wanted to get this game for it but after watching this review I'm not gonna waste my money on it there is no way I'm going to have a good time considering I have have 16 GB of ram and you were saying it was bad with your 32 GB of ram so i just wanted to say thank you for helping me keep some money in my pocket. I have recommended a lot of people to you due to your honesty in the games you review keep it up man!!!
My previous PC was on 16GB RAM and not the best graphic card either. I do remember that ARK was running fine / smoothly for the most part (There were heavy issues earlier as stated in the vid). I had FPS Drops usually when approaching other huge bases, until it was loaded in. Else it was okay I'd say. Haven't looked into the game for almost a year but I assume it's not worse than before :-) My bigger issue were the DLC Releases you need to pay for. You won't find a nice populated server with nice settings on the standard map ... And I'm not ready to pay again for the same game again :D
Simon R have you played multiplayer? You don't just survive the cold and hunger and Dino's. Also have to survive the other players who want your stuff even if it's a broken hatchet.
If that's their idea of survival, then it's no more of a survival game than is Call of Duty. What about having to build up a good defensive base as quickly as possible to survive roaming hunter packs of dinosaurs? That would be a very compelling, and thematically appropriate, gameplay loop idea, and yet it's utterly missing from the game. The devs need to exploit their own creation even more if they're to realise its full potential. And yes: I have played multiplayer. Like Rust, it's just CoD with crafting.
Simon R what are you talking about? There's packs of roaming allos and carnos all over and trexs if you don't have a good base and defenses you're pretty screwed. The survival aspect is there. You'll die in the cold without fur armor or starvation or dehydration. Ark politics are an even harder survival experience with big tribes and alliances. Making the wrong friends can get all your hard work wiped. I kinda wish it was just punching a tree and building a hut but the backstabbing and betrayal and friends are very real and key to surviving the ark
I tried to get it refunded by steam after the whole steam awards BS, since I have barely played it (runs like shit, and you get stomped non stop on spawn anyway)... steam didn't allow it though.
You hit the nail on the head with a lot of things, but one aspect you didn't mention that drives the final nail in its coffin for me is the hilariously bad and static animations! Imagine a real trike fighting a real T-Rex. Now open sic your trike onto a t-rex in-game and let the bounce-fest begin! Also, the dino behaviors, they just walk around! How is it that we don't see Brontos eating from trees? Ever encountered an Ichty with a Coel in its mouth? No actual wild nesting or wild mating, no dino squabbles over mating partners, food or territory... Everyone was so excited about the concept of a dinosaur survival game that the execution of it didn't really seem to matter to anyone. No Wildcard games for me anymore, thank you very much!
I have 1600+ into this game, and it still has most of the problems that it started with. If you played on a large active tribe, then the game really gets fun. After you have tamed everything, and have crafted everything, the only time you play again is right after an update.
I have to agree that this game is near impossible to start as a beginner or to start in a new server. But once you pass the start (built a house and you settled), you will have a lot of fun. you will take new dinosaurs, you will expand your house to a castle or to a base and you will explore a lot. this game could be glitchy depending on the map and server, but this game has so much to offer. this game is worth the buy, but only when it's on sale.
Singleplayer is a customizable experience so you can play how you want. Tames don't have to take hours. I read to never play on official servers ever. On my computer the game runs perfectly smooth but it does crash from time to time. You don't have to tame but it is helpful. The game does offer more then just riding dinosaurs. I could never justify DLC for a EA title. So spot on with that logic.
Mack, I'm a huge fan and have been for a long time, but you've gotten worse and worse with your willing suspension of disbelief. Don't complain about the lack of immersion because of the guy with an M16 riding a raptor in a video game about *taming dinosaurs*. Or chopping down trees with your fists... it's just a game mechanic that's been established by Minecraft and it works for the purposes of survival video games. Or the dinosaurs having an inventory to feed them berries. Would you prefer to aim your cursor at an individual berry and then click on it's tongue? Maybe you should give an alternative the things you find unrealistic, because I'm not sure how else they should implement that game mechanic in a practical way. Most games aren't simulators and it just sounds silly when you complain about video games being too unrealistic. It's like watching a high fantasy movie and complaining how that would never happen in real life. Love your videos, keep up the great work!
so i posted this into my ark post on the ark-forums. ppl have to know whats going on. as usual you bring light to dark places Mack ! you're an angel of justice in this bad bad 3rd millennium !
Another great vid Mack.. u should've seen this coming tho.. u watched the pc gamers portion of e3 last year.. they were talking about ants and shit versus finishing the game and never once even humored the idea of finishing this game. It's $55 on PS4 btw... *ding*🛎
This is the worst review I've ever seen, its made in very superficial and amateur way, shows a game in a bad and wrong light, love Mack, think he has best channel on yutube but this is very disappointing,it sounds like 12 old kid having rant
In a term of facts that is actually your job to do because you live out of UA-cam so do your research/job properly, and this facts has been mentioned by many people in comment section so I won't repeat them and dont take this criticism wrong i do respect you and what u do,but you have much influence over the people so you must be more responsible because you can do much harm to developers who are actually doing something and there and the end of the day you just sit at your chair and rant, this doesn't change anything i still think that you'll have the best channel on UA-cam,and by the way that word fanboy looool, that was cheap for your standards!
@ Worth A Buy...just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't instantly make them a fan boy. 90% of your review is just you harping on the same issues over and over, like 4 or 5 times in the same video. And then, you completely overlook some aspects of the game that are full implementations of the game, like for instance how you can alter the settings of a server when setting it up to make it a little easier when it comes to tame times and all that, and you just completely overlook it and simply say people are just "modding" the game and you don't mod. It's not modding the game...it is using in-game settings that have been in the game for quite some time now, to make the game more suited for your own personal play style. And you never touch up on how you can set up your own private servers for just you and your friends to enjoy the game with more players and not worry about all the offline BS from the toxic online server random players. Seriously, your review honestly looks and sounds like you hopped onto an online server alone, got destroyed a couple of times and rage quit. Then went to single player for an hour, then got butthurt about how challenging it is to play solo without altering the settings. Maybe people wouldn't give you soo much flak over the review if you gave an honest review. Your review feels so biased and one sided. For a full honest review, you should put more time into the game to get as much of the full experience as possible...despite how good or bad it is...before giving your review. I watch this video and the vibes I am getting from you is someone who played the game for an hour or two and never took the time to actually get truly in depth into it, so you give it a shite review and turn people away from the game before they have a chance to try it for themselves. And then, when people get mad at you because you aren't giving the game a full honest and unbiased review and try to point the same facts out that I am, you go "Boo hoo, you have no facts and are just a childish fan boy hater throwing a tantrum." And this isn't coming from a "fan boy" as much as you want to probably say so. This is coming from someone who has actually took the time to see what the game has to offer instead of just scratching the surface and writing it off. I can agree that the game isn't perfect, because no game is perfect and they all have some flaws to some degree. But over the years, they have made a lot of progress and fixes to the games and much of the updates and added content they included were completely free. Just look at the main prime ARK and not the DLC. Do you think they started with the vast amount of creatures in the game they have now than when they first started? No, they were always adding more and more creatures to the game with each free update to it. I am sorry, but your review here is such a bad review. There is something to be enjoyed from this game if you actually take the time to see it for yourself. I am not going to call you a liar but I will say your review makes you come off as being so biased that I personally can't take anything you say in this video seriously. If everyone reviewed games as you did and let something they didn't really like early in the game keep them from experiencing the full game before they gave their reviews, then everyone would just have shite and negative reviews about every game ever. I would seriously consider taking a proper amount of time to look past a game's flaws to see everything there is to said game so you can give a full honest 100% review rather than whatever this is and maybe do another revisit to the game once you can give it a proper review. Anywho, I think I have respectfully stated my point and wish you the best of luck.
The only way to play Ark, imo, is to play solo or on a private server where you can adjust all the conditions of the game. You can tame dinosaurs in a fraction of the time, you can collect more stuff per hit, you can carry more, whatever you want. And it doesnt feel cheaty to modify that stuff, it just makes it bearable. Plus you dont have any of the server side glitching and rubberbanding, and you can build stuff without worrying that its gone when you come back. Totally a completely different game playing like that.
UI looks like shit, game runs like shit Im uninstalling again, i downloaded yesterday, waste of time I regret buying this and I somewhat regret buying Rust in a humble bundle At least rust improves often, its still pretty boring as there is no real goal, get items, build a base, thats it
Ark improves often..... I have a feeling you're just bullshitting. There are updates nearly monthly. The debs are extremely active in forums. You're simply wrong. Wether you like it or not is your opinion. But ARK is not on DAYZ levels of bullshit.
If you have the attention span of 6 hour campaigns then survival games are not for you not Ark. It runs poorly yes, but shit looking it is not. I get that looks are subjective, but what exactly looks shit?
MixedReadings What would you suggest they do with a 40 million deficit to complete an already over budget, over ambitious, over schedule game? It adds a good amount of content & is different enough, they should have made it a standalone dlc that can integrate into the game, that way new people could try it for less than the main game price and get the base game for more content.
It really doesn't matter that they announced early on they wanted to release DLC in the future. What matters is that they did it while the base game was still only halfway complete.
Anonymous Poster the fanboys will still deny that the game is shit DLC for a early access? Omg thats the worst thing ever, those devs are so scummy and should be shut down and arrested for fraud
Gotta add something on the taming: Yes taming on official takes quite a time. however you decrease a 8 hour tame to a 1 1/2 hour tame with kibble and make it even more efficient. If that is still too long, there are unofficial servers with increased rates like 2x up to 100x. Also if there is enough food in the dinosaur and you have spikes around it, you can easily go grab a meal or watch youtube. Still, taming on official (and I am on official) takes quite a long time, yea.
I remember the first time I played ARK. It took me 2 and a half hours to tame a lvl 2 Bronto with only berries. But now you can alter the server settings so it takes only like 1/10th that time if not faster. And the Bronto is actually kinda handy. In all my solo servers, since it is such a hassle gather resources alone, I tame 2-3 Brontos and pump points into their speed, stamina, and carry weight. Then whenever I am in need of resources, I take them out together and load them up with all the resources I need and haul it all back to my base.
Well It was nice for me to play this , because I was a part of a MASSIVE group, who shared all of the responsibilities , we had 100's of dinosaurs controlled all of the major strategic points with multiple bases. Before we got to that point we competed with another powerhouse who harassed everyone on the server, but over the span of 2 weeks we basically hid in caves and other out of the way facilities, producing explosives. After 2 weeks we announced war, they laughed at us completely unaware of our plans then we started blowing up their base and dinosaurs. From their cocky attitude it went to "CHEATERS CHEATERS ADMIN MUST BE HELPING YOU". It was one of the greatest experiences in my life. The game itself is too hardcore , 10x or 100x resource servers are much more "affordable".
chora mora I don't even listen to Mack that hard because some games he thumb down I bought and liked. He doesn't speech for everybody sometimes. but I can agree that ark is lacking but .I think it's because of that law suit ark lost they started doing shady practices and i been following ark every move ever since while owning it and not playing it anymore.but looking at update and word of mouth ark is on a downward spiral if they fund the game anymore let it die or fix the bugs then release it and making a new dinosaur and not fixing the game does not make it better.
Guerrier Lory Don't tell anyone (esp. Mack) that I bought Witcher 3 and I enjoyed it very much. Yet pile of shit fallout 4 was thumped up and I didn't even play a lot and got the refund.
Guerrier Lory Oh also, I think fallout had more gameplay issues (more consoley), however I think Mack thumped Witcher down for viewership. Other than that, he is fun and spot on on most games.
Honestly, I love playing on Primitive +. They add, I want to say about a 100 new engrams give or take as well as new resources, and remove all the high tech and fabricated stuff. With way more options and varieties when it comes to crafting and recipes and the less high tech natures, I find it way more enjoyable. The only downside I have noticed is that it seems Primitive + causes your game to crash more than the base game does. No lie, I can play on a plain ARK server and maybe have one or two crashes every two or three months; if not longer. But when I played on Primitive +, I was seeing multiple crashes every couple of days. I love building in the Red Wood Forest and when traveling through the forest, sometimes I would get like 3-4 crashes in less than an hour...especially if I was fighting something like an Argent. But on base ARK, my game almost never crashes. Primitive + has such potential if they would just polish it up and smooth out some of the rough spots a little more. Not to mention, Primitive + was way behind on updates with things like the TLC patches. It took almost a couple of months before we seen TLC updated Raptors in Primitive + after they had been added in base ARK.
For some reason, when played on epic settings it looks pretty good, but drop 'em only a friggin' tad and they look awful. On top of that, turning settings down doesn't do as much for FPS as it should. I'm on a GTX 1070, i7 6700k and there is really just no excuse for it. (And why do I die from hunger in one day? The human body can go weeks! Why does every survival game do this!?) 10/10 would bring my beast of a PC to its knees again without good reason. xD
World B. Gilbert Gottfried can't up the scale without reducing overall fidelity. The order 1886 may have had the prettiest lamp in gaming but it was a 2 hour long corridor shooter. ARK is using the newest unreal engine to provide a full map to play in while keeping overall fidelity quite impressive. A shame the performance has not been optimised and the gameplay is junk.
finally u did a revisit on this game, ty mack! i love ur reviews i dont trust any other reviewer on youtube they just give everything 8s and 10s cuz they getting money from the companies that made the games they review
FYI you can adjust tame times well beyond the slider's max amount. Can't remember what I set mine to, but I was taming shit almost instantly. Of course, playing solo got boring after a while and I was never too keen on the grief-fest of online. If you had a good private server with some amped up tame times that might be good tho.
if you want to speed up the tameing progress you need to starve the dinosaur before you feed it food. also if you don't want to get offline raided then you can go to an unofficial server with offline base and dino protection .
ngl, this game is actually really fun IF you crank up the settings. PVP is hell, but PvE with a few friends on x20 everything really makes this game shine :) but yeah, if you only play on official servers this is not worth it. definitely get it if you have a few friends though
Mack In Ark you do not have to feed your dinos daily. They generally will starve in 1 to 2 real life weeks. You just feed them every few days and you are good.
my favourite tactic ( at most i was a 2 person tribe) was someone would get me from behind as i enter my base, but i would have a nearby spawn, usually the attacker would be in my base labyrinth without C4 , i would precede to wall them in and wait for the tears , the anger, the apologies. I had one bloke walled in for about 3 hours, he wouldn't suicide. Happy Days, if Mack thinks' Ark on PC is torture, i was playing on the PS4 :).
Or you know...you can play on your own servers and tweek the settings so it doesn't take 8 hours to tame a creature. Like seriously, I play mostly solo in my own server and you can literally change the settings for your server so an 8 hour tame can only have like 8 minutes or less. Honestly, that is the best way to play and enjoy this game. Make your own server for you and your friends and you can set it up how ever you like and don't have to worry about other players constantly raiding your base and taking all your stuff every time you log off. That's what me and my friends did. A buddy set up his own server so we could all spread out all over the map and we made our own bases and then had to try and find where the others had hidden and built their bases. Then we just made rules that you couldn't raid/attack someone if they were offline. This game is great in my opinion and well worth it. I have had very few issues with the game running on my Xbox. To me, it seems like your PC with that graphics card just sucks because I have only a fraction of the issues on console than you.
Also, you complain about there being paid DLC when there are still issues in the game....okay...how else are the devs suppose to fix the bugs and add the content to the game that players want without money? It costs for the labor to fix a game...it costs for the time and effort to create more content for the game. So of course the extra content is gonna cost extra. Some people just want everything given to them "Oh, I want them to fix the game and add more content to the game but I don't want to pay for the new content so the devs can fix the game in the first place."
What if you don't have your own sever? Or a friend for that. Official pvp is pointless if your alone and pve is not even playable on console because every server has a ping of 40 or higher and there are pillars everywhere. And the singleplayer gets boring after a while because there's literally nothing to do after you got a good base, tames and equipment. You can do the bosses but I don't think they are really fun or anything, it's just about bringing high level dinos dealing damage. Nothing deep like destiny raids or similar stuff
The taiming of dino's can be set in the Server settings, and yes it is set far to high by default, but you can change everything in there, so get your self a own Ark Server and have fun It is also pretty easy to setup.. Best Regards from Fienzer.com / Switzerland btw, i live your channel --> keep up the good work ;)
Ark is like a full time job. Minus the pay.
So true. Though i did have fun playing this for a bit with friends we just all got sick of it
Also, at most full time jobs, the Australians don't fly over at 4AM to steal your staples and shit in your cubicle
Loo Parquet lmao!!!!
Loo Parquet lol
solosage all the work none of the satisfaction.
Yup. thats true too.
www.reddit.com/r/playark/comments/5tap6q/when_a_youtuber_cant_handle_critics/ Same little bitches posting you on reddit now.
See i get why you said what you did about ARK and it is a heap of shite now, but im just holding on that maybe one day they'll pull their heads out of their arses and make it better like we were all promised.
we need an "Ark Survival Evolved (Re-revisited) 2020 Edition - Worthabuy?" video LMFAOOO😂😂
Still shit! The end. lol
Ruthless Robbery ark is great, you just dont dig it, doesnt mean its shit, to me ark is one of the best games there is.
Still the same shit only that the graphics are dated now
@@KilyanAustin I got 1100 hours I think I'm entitled to my own opinion at this point and if you disagree good for you. Would you like a congressional medal of honor or perhaps a peace prize. 🙄
I agree ! It needs mackifying !
hey Mack please review and revisit my wife
Old Meg?
will rabbit get a turn as well?
More like Old Gregg
If he doesn't respond I'll gladly visit her. Perhaps we can arrange something where you please and review mine as well.

Anyone agree that the font of the game seems... amateur?
FrostByte yeah, the UI is shite.
It is like they just got a font from Word and changed the colour.
FrostByte the game intro is so nice! The floating and moving intro is so slick! Then the actual menu is a still shot which looks like ass
Ark Survival Evolved .............. did not EVOLVE
B)
What I made was a joke. Hope you understand that.
Can i get my 2600+ hours back? ffs.
The bugs pertaining to un-optimization. The game hits massive frame spikes every 15 seconds and the map takes 5 minutes to load into (even on a SSD).
Yeah right, have you seen the Tek tier?
*****
The Tek tier would look way better if there weren't constant frame spikes!
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Early Access, Survival, Open World and Crafting
yeah open world games are awesome.. the only type of game i'll play.. open world rpg and if its sandbox, even better. i like to make my own fun and do what i want.. but be forced down a linear story campaign every video game
The Long Dark tho...
Hahaha SO freaking true!
Promise to add sheep if you vote for them... Sheep... How ironic.
I have played 500
hours on ARK, not thousands, and I completed it.
I think you didnt look at the options. The game has been updating for years now. Including an update every month. They dont need to apologize you shit
Maybe the expansion was to be able to extend the updates of the normal ARK. By the way, they got less money then your stupid calculations because of the steam sales.
If you dont like waiting on tames, just put taiming on 10x or even more.
Your review is total shit and the atmosphere of this game is great, I would recommend putting taming higher and playing on PvE.
Thumb down for Worth A Buy
Edit: they dont need to optimize yet as they are still in early access, therefore not being a full, bug-free game.
And at last, wages also need to paid for fuck sake.
You twot.
apple banana You are god damn right. The game even has multipliers for people with lives.
Thumbs down for Worth A Buy
G Worthy don't excuse the bullshit. They abused how early access works due to them not fixing many of the game's issues and instead releasing separate DLC. Plus this crap they are doing is also betraying people who brought the early access game to support it's development; in return all Wild Card did is spit in their supporters faces by not completing the game and instead working on a separate project.
J2B2 G4MER you really are a twot.
THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON IT TO MAKE IT EVEN BETTER
THEY KEEP ADDING ANIMALS
THEY HAVE NOT BROKEN ANY PROMISES
Stijn Lievaart yes they have: the basic idea of EA is so you can release an unfinished game so people can buy your product (knowing that theyll get a finished game at some point) to support you. All Wild Card have done is release a buggy/unoptimized game, add some new dinosaurs in now and again and then make and release a separate piece of DLC. So yeah they did betray their supporters and new new added dinosaurs will change that: you can't polish a turd.
Mack you are a bloody legend, saving the community money one game at a time
James Mac I understand he voted no but I bought it for 20 dollars and its extremely fun, some games still are good even if he doesn't recommend them
of course mate, feel free to enjoy whatever you play. I just see eye to eye with Mack on a lot of things when it comes to games like this.
taco head I know it is a really amazing game ,lots of fun on it
James Mac Just a side note he also said rust wasn't worth a buy and I have over 500 hours and it's still loads of fun
They game will remain in early access for next 10 years, but I hope they release 14 $ DLC every 2 months. Thank you Mack
They should have just fixed the damn bugs
Worth A Buy their logic which is used by most AAA devs is optimization is for last pass throughs . Early access is just another way of saying throw money at alpha or pre alpha builds I assume there is about a year of dev time left on this.
I don't see why you would use that as such a big argument without even doing proper research.
The forest areas in this game run at 20 fucking frames a second. It's awful.
same setup, same probs
Harry S. Plinkett tried Arma 3?
Meeesj Yeah I wish A3 was more optimised but the level of simulation and map scale make it somewhat forgivable, Ark doesn't have anywhere near this it seems more that they don't optimise assets enough and handle LOD properly, shame really.
Mack, please do a revisit on Rainbow Six Siege. The game got so much better since launch and it's getting another full year of additional support
^^^ +1
Nicolae Ceausescu yes please do
Best most inovative fps created in the last years. Been here from closed beta, and still every dlc that drops changes the meta so much , that it feels like you get a new game. Its.Focking.Great.
Ya I'd love to see that, one game Ubisoft hasn't fuct up royally lately anyway.
Nicolae Ceausescu
Yearly season pass. Fuck ubisoft
Those enjoying the game should look at the macro picture and boycott this game and it's likes.
thumbs up cuz I'm getting sick & tired of this game, hope devs see this video
I like how you showed game play from both old and new pc components to accommodate more fans that might not have beefy builds. awesome video
this is why i love your channel, half way through i can never tell if you like the game or hate it lol.
MO King when he went straight to talking about the mircotransactions I already knew it was a wrap
''Spared no expense' on immersion.''
Expertly inserted Jurassic Park reference, thumbs up, subscribed.
(Oh wait I've been subbed to you since your Mack and Mesh days)
Well spotted
Well, this is weird, your first ark review was how I discovered this channel..
You should do another one of these. Since its now "released" and risen to 60$, the price of a full blown AAA hahaha
"If you vote for us like a sheep we will add sheep to the game." - haha you can't make this stuff up!
I love a good roast on a Tuesday
Thanks for all the help @Worth A Buy, I love watching your videos and they really help when Im looking for a game. And your just too funny with your damn bell Lmao
I agree on every point
ARK: Greed Evolved with Scorched Wallet expansion
So here's the question. Fast forward 5 years to 2022... I just got this game for free on Epic Games.
Does the game stand up to today?
Mack you need to re review this . Its free on Epic game store
Thank you, these are things I always thought while my friends spent all day taming.
Finally. Another beta for for honour on the 9th
no idea how long I've waited for this
I have over 6k hours in on this game over 2 accounts and stopped playing June last year.
SadisticFella you have WAY too much time in your hands. Do something useful.
SadisticFella retired at 43!! what did you do
Yes!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for you to revisit this game, thank you!!!
As usual, well said Mack...shame developers take the piss so much now a days...they've lost the love for what they do
Great review
Funny thing is that when Ark first was released on Steam and got alot of hate for being so badly optimaized, they devolopers stated that optimaization was luckely one of their biggest strenths.
Guess not
Day Z,H1Z1, and ark, I don't know when or if they will pass the early access stage, but they show us something terrible, is that survival MMO doesn't have to be finished at all to be sellable.
Seems like a game that might be fun on a private server with just a few people.
druuzil that's how it's intended
Honestly, that is probably the best way to play. Make your own private server with your own settings for all your friends. It's hella fun that way.
Mack, can you revisit Kimulator? I know it's still shit, but I want to see you suffer a little.
how ironic, I was just thinking yesterday when you'd make a video and poof, here it is the next day
Idk mack ive agreed on every game youve reviewed but this one i cannot agree with. I truly love this game and am sad you dont feel the same about it.
chris smith what do you love specifically?
This game is worth the buy, you skipped the option to increase taming speeds, gather speeds, craft speeds, difficulty levels of dinos, and pretty much everything that you can change, great video but sucks u skipped that
On official server you can't change a thing
yes i know, having 700 hours in it i dont even play it anymore its too laggy just that itd of been better if u mentioned it
How is it worth a buy then?
I stopped playing official servers within 2 months of launch, well hosted servers have kept me going for 1400 hours. If I had to play on official servers I'd have played it for 4 months tops XD
Give a reason, the taming argument, addressed as someone who's played the game he's right its retarded how long that takes. The fps is still shit, popin is fucking horrendous, and the spawn thing is spot on, get stuck in the north and your fucked. You fanboys piss me off. Criticize the things you like to make it better.
Finally , i hope the devs see this and wake up
I have 2 gtx 970 and run epic with low shadows and get 50-60 fps no crashes etc
Hey guys. Studio Wildcard is owned by a chinese company and they are helping develop Dark and Light as well as 2 other ARK spinoffs.
Developer= What was that Mac?
We can't hear you, we're drowning in cash.
SanDan3rdDan doesn’t make this pile of shit good. Just means people are fucking stupid and have no sense of value quality
That hurts, ARK is one of my fafourite games. I think onan unofficial server the experience would have been better.
definitely needs another revisit
I think the word 'survival' should be removed from the title.
After your first couple of in-game days what is there to survive exactly?
Haha, good point! xD
The bugs.
I've been waiting so long for this video. I can't believe this is happening.
Hi Mack :)
Hi
Worth A Buy Hi
I tried to get it refunded by steam after the whole steam awards BS, since I have barely played it (runs like shit, and you get stomped non stop on spawn anyway)... steam didn't allow it though.
Thanks for the reply Mack I'm going to miss it when you get even bigger and grow to a million subs and won't have time to reply
Mack mate, can you please have a look at Realpolitiks pls
Revisit elder scrolls online
What a load of bullocks! I was going to revisit this game but not now. Great vid
Complete shit this game is, the whole paid DLC issue was the last straw. Managed to get a full refund off steam . Scumbag devs.
I have 1600+ into this game, and it still has most of the problems that it started with. If you played on a large active tribe, then the game really gets fun. After you have tamed everything, and have crafted everything, the only time you play again is right after an update.
DO A REVIEW ON ENTER THE GUNGEON
Parker Myers gungeon?
yea look it up
didn't he do that already?
he did.
I have 470hrs on this game it is well worth
I HAVE 200 AND I LOVE IT
Taming a 150 beaver or quetzal or breeding and imprinting makes you want to /wrists
Game runs at 23fps on a 1080 at high settings
GreatGame/10
This game is one of the best games ever made!
You have not played many games have you
Worth A Buy lol. I don't think he/she has either.
Happy Opposite Day everybody!
Another great vid Mack.. u should've seen this coming tho.. u watched the pc gamers portion of e3 last year.. they were talking about ants and shit versus finishing the game and never once even humored the idea of finishing this game. It's $55 on PS4 btw... *ding*🛎
This is the worst review I've ever seen, its made in very superficial and amateur way, shows a game in a bad and wrong light, love Mack, think
he has best channel on yutube but this is very disappointing,it sounds like 12 old kid having rant
Yet you give no facts, just your own rant which sounds like a 12 yr old fan boy
What do you do when someone doesn't like your youtube video?
A. Get Mad
B. Write a salty comment
C. Call them a fanboy
D. All of the above
It's worth pointing out that you can adjust the rate on servers at which you earn xp/tame dinosaurs and make it reasonable.
And now the damn game costs 60$....
UI looks like shit, game runs like shit
Im uninstalling again, i downloaded yesterday, waste of time
I regret buying this and I somewhat regret buying Rust in a humble bundle
At least rust improves often, its still pretty boring as there is no real goal, get items, build a base, thats it
Ark improves often.....
Anonymous Poster the fanboys will still deny that the game is shit
DLC for a early access? Omg thats the worst thing ever, those devs are so scummy and should be shut down and arrested for fraud
Gotta add something on the taming:
Yes taming on official takes quite a time. however you decrease a 8 hour tame to a 1 1/2 hour tame with kibble and make it even more efficient.
If that is still too long, there are unofficial servers with increased rates like 2x up to 100x.
Also if there is enough food in the dinosaur and you have spikes around it, you can easily go grab a meal or watch youtube.
Still, taming on official (and I am on official) takes quite a long time, yea.
You must not be good at these kind of games lol who dies to a dilo? And everyone knows you run from the troodons XD
randy7027 you must be a sad person in real life to only have that to say
it took me 8 real life hours to tame a level 59 bronto, there was no kibble back then. funny is, the bronto is so slow, i never even used it.
69th
Too bad, I bought it when you thumped it up, now you've thumped it down. Great. Can't refund the fucking game.
chora mora I don't even listen to Mack that hard because some games he thumb down I bought and liked.
Mack , about the immersion part
you forgot that there are primitive servers that don't have any rifles, or technology , just the primitive stuff.
How are you saying this game looks good graphically? It looks like shit.
It looks good on ultra, but you'd need a GTX1080 to get a decent framerate at those settings.
Why does every survival game do this!?)
10/10 would bring my beast of a PC to its knees again without good reason. xD
World B. Gilbert Gottfried I think he means compared to most of the garbage on Steam.
Upgrade your potato
finally u did a revisit on this game, ty mack! i love ur reviews i dont trust any other reviewer on youtube they just give everything 8s and 10s cuz they getting money from the companies that made the games they review
A most justified thumbs down.
Game is very much worth a buy, this guy has not a clue what hes speaking of.
LOVING THE UPLOADS, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep them coming, MUCH LOve from AuS LAnD
I was going buy Ark because it's on sale right now. thank God I watched this video first. you saved me 5 bucks.
if you want to speed up the tameing progress you need to starve the dinosaur before you feed it food. also if you don't want to get offline raided then you can go to an unofficial server with offline base and dino protection .
ngl, this game is actually really fun IF you crank up the settings. PVP is hell, but PvE with a few friends on x20 everything really makes this game shine :) but yeah, if you only play on official servers this is not worth it. definitely get it if you have a few friends though
Please do an updated worth a buy. I read good things since this review came out. Love your reviews!
And if you have a problem with the taming play on a player dedicated server and then dinos tame instantly if you want it.
Thanks for taking a second look at this.
The taiming of dino's can be set in the Server settings, and yes it is set far to high by default, but you can change everything in there, so get your self a own Ark Server and have fun
It is also pretty easy to setup..
Best Regards from Fienzer.com / Switzerland
btw, i live your channel --> keep up the good work ;)
Hey Mack! Great video! I was wondering if you could revisit stranded deep?
To tame the Mack-beast would involve a lot of grinding.
