99% of sardines are not cleaned, deboned or descaled. They cook them well enough to sanitize everything. If I had to eat these minnows I would just boil them very well.
Money can't buy happiness, but using the fortune cookie the statement came in to catch minnows in an old waterbottle in the middle of a creek for fish bait for future fishing, can.
Any thick paste made from flour or meal will work. When I was a kid growing up on a lake, we had an old framed window screen with center and most of the surrounding area pushed in to form a depression. The four corners had small eyebolts attached and 4 wire leaders attached to a ring, and a bit thicker lead used to lower and raise the 'minnow screen' My Pop would slather a thick paste of flour and water all over the screen and let it dry up just a bit. Then drop it in the water for a few minutes before pulling it up. Within a few dips our minnow bucket was full...

That would have been impossible when I was a kid. Bottles were made of glass. As an older teen they were made of thick plastic. Nobody was going to just push it in.
Hey outdoors! Love the content and wanted to just say I grew up without a dad and any sort of outdoorsy activity like fishing or hunting although animals and the outdoors have always been my passion I have never had the access. I have been very nervous to live up to expectations and I just want to let you know I shared a couple things I’ve learned from your channel in my interview and with new coworkers and they think I’m some sort of outdoor guru! Oooo, I just had memories flooding me. As I child me and my cousin would do that when visiting my grandparents farm. And then feed the minnows to chickens. They loved it. I was always told that you cut it around 3/4 of the bottle and just invert it that way but just cutting off the top is a very intelligent way to just have more room although I can’t imagine this working for the harder bottles for example Mountain Dew bottles so if you ever stumble upon one of those you can just cut it 3/4 of the bottle and do the same thing but thank you for this knowledge😊

I've literally wondered if something like that would work before, in fact, if that exact thing but with any bait would work. It's really cool to actually see it in action
When I was a kid me and a friend caught minnows in a creek and yard them as bait for crayfish. When i got older I realised that where i fished was a protected salmon stream and what i caught were salmon fry. Oh well...
Don't use a fortune that has the message: "Everything is either bullshit or watered down, always sea it for what it is" because the fishes will read it and will not fall for the trap
Dude thanks, it's a cheap and effective way to get a few fish, fishing aint about how fast you can catch every single time , unless you in a tournament But as a hobby, take your time enjoy the outdoors and enjoy the peace and quiet
I used to do this as a kid and I still do this to this day jist mot to catch bait I use it to catch big fish, I creek and river fish a lot so fish move but if u catch there attention with something like a bottle or a jug that’s filled 25% of the way with just minnows, it would catch there attention, they will wait until one comes out (witch never happens) so all u do and drop a drop shot rig right infront of the bottle and boom in a matter of milliseconds that fish that’s been waiting will crush whatever u toss in the water, I’ve caught 6-7-8 pound smallies doing this, I caught a 10 pound rainbow, I’m telling you right now, it’s one of if not the easiest way to draw fish in and there nothing illegal bc u are using native baitfish that’s allowed to be used as bait😂but I’m doing it even better and that the minnows don’t die and can be released again to feed other fish and or grow up to spawn more so it’s a win win tbh
Not gonna lie, minnow soup is pretty good if you know how to cook em up. Stew it for an hour or two, or make it in the pressure cooker, and the bones dissolve so it's like eating sardines/anchovies, throw in some spices and whatever veggies you got lying around, and you can feed yourself for nearly free cause you don't need a license or a limit to catch baitfish. Grew up rural poor, had a cheap castnet and we'd make a big pot of minnow stew whenever we were broke in the summertime.
This device is definitely cool and ingenious! But I just can’t see myself gutting and cleaning those little fish-it would take hours just to make enough for a decent-size sandwich!
When i was a kid, id catch em with a bucket. Bucket had small holes and id put a rock into the bucket to make it sink. A few would go in out of curiosity and id pull the bucket up. I had a fun childhood. 😊
For me, in a spot like that, a simple net would give more than enough. But if it were in an area where the minnows are much better hidden, this is a really good idea
I used to work at PF Chang’s, times were tough and I would eat fortune cookie cereal all the time, add a little whip cream and chocolate syrup 😘👌. It’s good, you should try it. My Main diet was egg drop soup mixed with rice, and fortune cookies for dessert. Just seeing 🥠 brought back some memories.
I got a recent fortune cookie that stated "all things are hard before the become ez". To which I immediately did the mature thing, giggled and blurted out "that's what she said!"
My cousin and I used to do this, we would use litter, usually 2 liter soda bottles and we would set the traps with bread or cream corn. We'd usually always cat h minnows, sometime a crayfish as well
Minnow activity is high.
😂
Remember, reloading your bottle trap is always faster than switching to a new one
* minnow population / presence is high.
* first rule of fishing: fish where the fish are.

Eh fuck it they just crunchy sardines
They do not clean sardines. They have all of their little gut business in them. And small fish it's really not bad
99% of sardines are not cleaned, deboned or descaled. They cook them well enough to sanitize everything. If I had to eat these minnows I would just boil them very well.
@travman9007 It'd be like a fish soup. Throw in some salt and wild greens.
Prepping minnows to be eaten is easy. Just apply liberal amounts of hook and let steep in nearest body of water.
