Thank you so much for this interview! I've shared it to my group and several more times. So much life changing information.!
I was never a diabetic but I was pre almost four years ago... I had high blood pressure, asthma and was almost 300 lbs. I was in excruciating pain constantly from my osteoarthritis and bone spurs in my foot and ankle and I was just a metabolic mess. I saw one of Dr Fung's interviews and it changed my life. I learned how to fast. I lost 160 lbs and it reversed ALL my health issues. I'm 61 and maintaining well. I'm loving my ketovore and fasting lifestyle 🥰.

I was no longer considered diabetic within a few weeks of going carnivore! I was so scared but my blood sugar never went too low or too high! I'm now almost 6 months in, on Lion Diet, and I don't even think about my blood sugar or diabetes anymore!

@@JCKay Before carnivore, my blood sugar would spike Up so high, just from a few bites of fruit (upper 200's, close to 300 still 3 hours after eating)
The dawn phenomenon still happens; more so in the first few months. I would wake up and it would be between 80-115, usual right around 100. But I eventually stopped checking because it was always in range.

*It worked for me!* I encourage everyone to try low carb. I was diagnosed with diabetes Oct 2021. Thankfully I found out about low carb. Three months later my diabetes was remitted. I am now metabolically healthy and am down to what I weighed in the early 1980s before I had my children and it happened without even trying. I'm off blood pressure drug, improved quality of sleep, chin hairs are getting a lot finer, don't get body odour, and surprisingly my hair is not as grey as it used to be (my boss agrees with my observation of this). My LDL has increased, with lower triglycerides and higher HDL (good ratio).

@@chosenandblessed9040 It's a bit difficult to write that I ate. I realise that there is a lot on the internet and it can be confusing. Here's an excellent lecture by Dr Westman that someone has posted titled: Dr Eric Westman Duke University Ketogenic Diet (search the title on youtube to find it). Another good video: Reversing Type 2 diabetes starts with ignoring the guidelines Sarah Hallberg (sadly Dr Hallberg died recently from cancer). Two other channels that are really good are Serious Keto (older videos newer one have a lot of product promotion) and a Pastor called Dennis Pollack with a channel called Beat Diabetes!; both of these channels have some good ideas of foods/meals. I hope that helps. BTW Dr Westman has a list of foods nicknamed Page 4 which can be purchased for $10 USD on his website with the proceeds going towards research.

One day around midday, I had a couple of strips of bacon and some ham and cheese roll ups. Not a lot of food, but the next day, I wasn't hungry, so I didn't need that day. The following day, the donuts at the gas station were starting to look good. I still wasn't hungry, but the cravings started kicking in, so I ate something that day. When fasting, I think it's important not to white knuckle it. I think it's a bad idea to fight through the cravings. I did that a couple of years ago, and I binged for the next few weeks. I don't think I ever recovered from that. Plus, I'm still hooked on Stevia. 36:33 I'm relatively healthy. But my weight is creeping up while I still have a taste for breaded shrimp and chicken nuggets.

I started with 6 hour fasting, then bumped it up to 12 hour fasting once I got used to it.
The thing I remember is that hunger pains only last about 20 minutes. Food cravings only happen when my brain isn't focused on something.
There's a big difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and when the Healthcare system treats them the same way, we have more problems. Also, gestational diabetes is another one that's different - gestational diabetes often fixes itself after the pregnancy ends. (Not always though - diabetes is complicated.)
I was told that diabetes only occurs in people who have the genetic marker for it, which explains why some people can eat anything and never develop diabetes, while other people need to analyze everything they consume when trying to control blood sugar.
Also - physical activity can affect blood glucose, which is why diabetics are urged to exercise, or walk, or just move around more often.

Can it really be reversed? Maybe controlled because the moment you start eating any carbs at all up goes the blood glucose immediately. Reversed would surely mean you could eat a less restrictive diet. So I think people should use the word controlled instead. Reversed is misleading.

    • @nataliajimenez1870

They call it "remission", meaning that you can bring your blood glucose levels to normal, reverse fatty liver disease, reduce level of trigs and bring back blood pressure back to normal. But you will still suffer the long term effects of the damage that was done for decades by high insulin and blood glucose levels. And if you try to consume high levels of sugars, your body will still have a hard processing them. But definitely many people that have gotten their insulin and blood glucose to normal levels for an extended period of time can reincorporate a slightly higher complex carbs amount than the ones that they needed to consume to initially get the diabetes under control (like having 50-75 g daily carbs instead of 20)

    • @farlawson1706
      @farlawson1706 7 місяців тому +5

It’s not misleading . When you eat carb the natural response is rise in your glucose , then it trend downward . In the beginning of diabetes reversal you have to make your cells to become insulin become sensitive again. This is why you do low carb and fasting to reach insulin sensitivity.

I tell people that my diabetes is in remission. Somebody who is familiar with low carb asked me can I eat more carbs and I said yes I _can_ but I _choose_ not to because they make me hungrier and crave more carbs.

What is misleading is to tell people they got diabetes because they got bad genes from their parents, or because their body got worn out by old age. That's B.S. Diabetes is not genetic. Diabetes is only associated with age because it takes 20 to 30 years of abusing your body with the wrong food before your doctor one day tells you "Your blood sugar is high, you have diabetes." This distinction between "PRE"-diabetes and diabetes is also B.S. PRE-diabetes is diabetes. The exact same disease. Just your doctor is not ready to prescribe a pill or injection for you yet.
Diabetes is reversed in the sense that you can measure insulin with a c-peptide test. If you have diabetes diagnosis based in blood sugar level, guaranteed your insulin is multiple times normal health. Reverse the diabetes with low carb diet, then not only does your blood sugar return to normal, your body weight return to normal, your blood pressure return to normal, but also your INSULIN returns to normal. The c-peptide test will show you insulin has returned to normal.
Listen to Dr Fung in this video again. He very clearly explains what he means by reversal. If you want to quibble on what the word reverse means, you are ignoring the basic concept: Diabetes can be solved. Diabetics can become healthy again.

You're implying that people shouldn't use the term "reverse" because they can't get away with eating the thing that got them into trouble in the first place.
That's like continuing to be a heavy drinker and complaining that your fatty liver didn't go away after getting a transplant for a new one.

Not very informative. No instructions how to actually reverse the diabetes. No instructions on exact what foods to eat and when. Should have discussed an actual diet and actually state which foods to eat and which not to
