I love TI flats on pretty much all of my guitars. I play a lot of surf, R&B, rockabilly type stuff and their strings just feel and sound right. However, more recently, I have been making up custom hybrid gauge sets with 46, 33, 28 gauge TI flats for the E, A & D strings and Elixir Nano 18, 13,10 gauge for the G, B & top E strings. I like this combo for achieving string bends and each string last for a really long time. Thanks for the review!
Some people think flatwounds are dull. But they're not. Coupled w a round core they actually have a lot of high end frequencies. It is more about the mids. They seem more scooped and lacking a tad of attacking mids and bringing in something i would describe as 'tubbyness'. That could just be because of the lack of mid-highs, especially when using a plectrum.Funnily enough i have the same flatwound TI set on my gigging acoustic guitar which uses a magnetic soundhole pickup. Super smooth and flexible lower strings. They are staying on for a while butim not sure if that tubbyness is going to bother me, especially on the low E where it is pronounced. TI actually makes a set called 'plectrums' w flatwound A, D and G but w a roundwound low E. Interesting..
I tried chrome's on my les paul but the g string buzzed a lot. I tried another set of chrome's in case it was a bad string but the buzz was still there. Eventually I tried these thomastik strings and the buzz disappeared.
These are the best flats I have found as well. I was using the Chromes and was about ready to give up on flats until I found these. I found the Chromes to be somewhat dead sounding and hideously stiff. (And I am generally a big fan of D'Addario strings.) They are expensive but worth it. A set will last you a long time.
@@ManuelLederer Theoretically, they will work with and fit an acoustic but trust me, you wouldn't want to. Volume will be extremely low and sustain will be poor. They will sound kind of lifeless. It's best to stick with acoustic strings for acoustic guitars.
Nice tones and playing. I've been using their bebop strings on my archtops and keen to try this swing set. There's a nice depth to the tone of those strings on that guitar.
You can even put them on an Acoustic Guitar. The Wound Strings (even the G String) have a Slightly lower tension than most Flatwound sets cause the Wound Strings have a Layer of silk between the core and wrap wire to soften the feel a bit. The extra light set will give you ultimate playability.
Hi,! is there a stringset were there is a flatwounded high b string? or is it possyble to by single string like this ,or there some makers who cann make them? many thanks thanks
Those strings sound really good. I'm currently using D'Addario NYXL 10-46. I am planning to switch over to Thomastik-Infeld flatwounds. Someone recommended the medium light 12-50 set. I hope they will sound as nice as yours.
what do u think? Im using NYXL 10s too but find it a lil too stiff for my playing, maybe NYXL 9s will suit me better. How does the tension and playability of TI JS112 feels compared to NYXL 10's?
I have thomastik on one P bass and chromes on another . The Thomastik are clearer ,more flexible ,I'm going to try some of their roundwounds on another bass
I am just improvising around a III VI II V I progression for most of this video... here's a lesson I did about something similar ua-cam.com/video/M_9KE8u_hH4/v-deo.html
I play country, classic rock, and bluesy stuff and these strings were terrible for me. I use Curt Mangan flatwound 9's and they sound great for my sound so I decided to try these but found them way to dark. It's an art not a science so I'm not saying these strings are bad but they didn't work at all for me.
Yeah I lean more toward a jazz tone. I'll have to try those Curt Mangans... I would love the feel of flats with more of the sound of rounds on my rock gig guitars.

I dong like changing strings, put these on my es 175 and 335,now got a great sound for years!
I like how skeptic he was at the beginning. This is the most honest string review I have ever seen. I am definitely getting the Thomastik Infeld GB112
I just ordered a set. So excited to try them on. Takes about a month so let your fans know to order right away.

That's exactly how I felt about the D'Addario flats. Lifeless and stiff.
The Chromes are hex core, the TIs round core. One has to adjust the gauge for tension..
Can you tell me if they work with acoustic guitsrs also? Or do they just fit electric ones?

I love Thomastics too! Good stuff!
How to install on fender telecaster? The E 6th string is to long ?

I just heard them on a tele and they sounded fantastic.
100% agree with your opinion. For bending and rocking I like the
Thomastik JS110 even better

Great sound! What is your pick up neck?
Thank you so much! The pickups are a set of Amalfiatno PAF without the covers but I had him lightly wax them.
That's a great tone! What pickups do you have there?
Thanks so much!! They are Amalifitano PAFs with no covers.
They're kinda like Groundwounds. Groundwounds are semi-flat wounds which are really cool.
You look like Paul Rudd, my man. Thomastik Infeld make some damn good bass strings also. Good video. Keep it up.
Did you have to adjust the nut in any way for this set ?
Awesome I got mine and love it. I am replacing them on my steel and nylon too. Soo good
Yeh, I've tried several times to put flats on my ES-355 and always yank 'em off. Thomastik makes great strings, though.

Flatwounds on a Tele is amazing! I use the Pyramid fusion flats 11-48
Hi, good feeling ! Where can I order Thomastik Infeld jazz flat wound bass guitar ? Thank you !
I have thomastik on one P bass and chromes on another . The Thomastik are clearer ,more flexible ,I'm going to try some of their roundwounds on another bass
Same. I've been using 11s......12s could be even better.
Birdsnake Brown They're semi-Flat wound which gives you the best of both worlds.
08/14/2020: Are they ground down "totally" flat like the D'Addario strings?
No. A little less.
They aren’t ground.
what is the red sheath used for at the end of the strings?
As far as I know, traditionally it was used to keep the string from unwinding.
Great review.
What unwound G did you use? I've been looking for one that will fit well with the timbre of the rest of the set.
did u find something
I find the low e, a and d lighter feeling than their gauge. Great strings.
yeah the larger strings feel more like a set of standard 10s
In one word: warm
What are those songs you play?
I am just improvising around a III VI II V I progression for most of this video... here's a lesson I did about something similar ua-cam.com/video/M_9KE8u_hH4/v-deo.html
Try the half rounds. Best of both worlds.
Flatwounds (round core) have great note separation, less overtones and more fundamentals...which you might like..or dislike
Man... Enough with the flatwounds... Tell us about the KILLER hat! 👌🏼

George Benson , his choice! You can order personalised Benson sets!
Yeah, I have to try out a set of the Bensons!
chromes are too metallic and lasted only two days on my Les Paul.
Omg that's so delicious
