Hi people, I am from Moldova and I am glad to read your comments about my country. If you will be able to visit Moldova, try to visit a village and try their food and wine. It is the best what you can eat and drink ever. Also there are some touristic destinations whici you must visit, for exemple Soroca Fort, Orheiul Vechi. Wine Factories, etc. Thanks for emotions.
I am from Poland and when I buy a wine here I buy it mostly from Moldova. I think the relation price/quality is very reasonable, very good. In my opinion the quality alone is also very good. It is much better than the west european wines, especially from the same price range. Except Moldovian wines I like wines from South America - Chile and Argentina.
I had a great time in Moldova over 20 years ago having cycled there all the way from England. It took 2 months to get there and I needed a visa for US$30 bought at Sculeni border crossing east of Jasi. I met some great people there and ice-cream vans were everywhere, and water wells in every village, most of them very ornate and with religious symbols as it was the source of life. South-east of Chisinau I encountered a Russian border control which charged $5 for a paper visa to transit the breakaway republic of Trandniestria, and then I was off to Odesa in Ukraine. Moldova was much different back then with no internet or mobile phones.... I just had a page ripped out of an old school atlas for orientation - Great Times 🙂 Thanks for the video, though, it brings back some memories.

Well have been in Kiev, Ukraina during the SSSR time, that would be some years ago. It was a cheap round trip me and my at that time wife was in, sadly we where there only a short time, on top of that some of my pictures was lost from Kiev.
When my grandfather was a child (early twentieth century), coin operated weight scales used to be common in the United States -- they were found in places like pharmacies or train stations. At the time, having a scale at home that was large enough to measure a man's weight was considered a luxury item for working-class people.
I am from Moldova, and i live here since i was a child. For me its a beatiful and incredible place to live. Hope next time you can visit Ialoveni, another beatiful city next to Chisinau. And hope you enjoyed the stay in here. =)
@@dacialogan6605 @dacialogan6605 Of course, the word comes from "balta/balti" meaning "mud" in Romanian and Albanian; Moldova is Romania's little sister. Moldova, Besarabia and Romania should be together.

Hoping more people see your videos and realize most people around the word are good and want basically the same things in life. The food in Andy’s looked delicious. In the nineties I was in Romania a couple times; Tirgu Mureş, Bucuresti and Baja Mare. This year I visited Russia. Moldova shows the combination of Romanian and Russian culture, which is really interesting. Thanks for this and all other informative videos you made! 😘
@@andreipop5805 I have heard of Baia Mare because of your rugby team. It’s not a very famous rugby team but it’s famous enough that people who are interested in European rugby will know about it. They even played in a tournament in South Africa recently.

When the national and world politics get depressing because of the way the politicians mess things up all the time with no way to change things individually there is no better way to feel better than to watch one of your videos. They bring back so many memories of the travel times my wife and I had in Asia and Europe while in the military. What we loved most was the people and their different customs, etc. What I liked most was the FOOD! I miss being able to travel like that ever again, especially to the places where you two go to countries I wish I had opportunity to visit myself. I always wanted to travel into Russia, Siberian territories and Mongolia. Can only make it in dreams now. It's the people and their cuisine that makes the world interesting and fun the world over. Kaiten sushi I could do every day.
I 2004 I went on a small cruise ship and we landed at Odessa. I walked around the streets and was quite shocked at how derelict it was where we landed. Seeing people selling little trays of very small fish in streets. There was an area of artists and I bought a water colur painting. It is framed and on my wall. So lovely.

I went to moldova when i was 15 with my friend. We stayed at his grandparents apartment in transnistria ,which the government deemed "not safe for travel" but ,when I went i received nothing but love. One time I ordered a pizza and they gave us 2 just because I was foreign.
Well, i live less than 500 meters from this restaurant. It's like a look at the usual picture of life from different angle. Thanks for visiting us! Спасибо!
Glad to see the two of you highlighting this interesting country. Hopefully, your video will encourage others to visit. Tourism could be a very beneficial industry for Moldova. I would love to try that "champagne watermelon 🍉". Julia, the little painting that you bought became much more fascinating to me when you told the story behind it. It pained me to see the lady having to sell something that her late husband painted. At least it will help in a small way, financially. Take care and enjoy your weekend. 🫂❤️🙏🌎🕊
I loved Moldova I was there two months in June-July 2022. Chisinau Old Orhei Gaughazia Holercani rural bee aviaries Ia Mania festival. It was epic great trip. We traveled Bucharest to Chisinau via the sleeper train Pretania.
It's always a pleasure and delight to follow your adventures. You give me inspiration to also visit places like this. Your channel is so calming and informative and you two have so much fun together. A flight for that price is also not to be ignored. But like matt says that's watermelon looks quite ropey. But that's coming from me, who is a boring not well travelled Englishman. I look foward to more of your adventures. I envy you both.
Very interesting to hear about a country I know nearly nothing about! Interesting to see how their capital looks. I remember knowing the name Kishinev, hope it is the same place. Thank you guys for providing us with interesting information and taking us with you to your trips!
It's "Chisinau". Kishinev is the incorrect spelling that Russians threw at us and didn't really care. You're welcome to visit! However, please keep in mind that Moldova is the poorest country in Europe, so expectations shouldn't be too high :D
@@alexandrudodon1 You say it is the poorest country in Europe. I guess it is not always about material things you have and can have but in the soul of the people. As for me, as I come from former Czechoslovakia and experienced Soviet rule, many things are understandable. People were kinder then and more together, thinking about neighbors. Today many people are competing like wild animals. There are too many criminals walking free unpunished that would have been behind bars doing what they do today to their very own citizens. New riches are mostly stolen or acquired by scam. The new system is detrimental to people's soul and compassion. Also, no one believes it if I say this today: there were NO homeless people at all. So I do not see all the best happening in the last 30 years. Hope to travel, may be even to Moldova. Hope the war will not spread, God forbid. Good luck to you and to your country!
I recently found out my grandmother was from Moldova so I watched this with keen interest. The painting made me tear up and I love your idea to win that. Aloha from Hawaii 🌺
I had no idea that Romanian was a latin language! This was an interesting tour. I noticed that the block where Andy's was located was lighted and cheerful and the restaurant looked quite upscale. The city did look a bit empty in places and in need of renovation but it's expected after such a long economic struggle, and young people fleeing for jobs elsewhere. Well done you two. xo Suzi
Thank the Romans 2000 years ago for making this country a part of their empire. After it fell the natives maintained their culture and language over the year. Amazing.
Romanian is basically latin with some slavic and turkish influence, Rome created this buffer state to divide the slavs, as the Germans did with Austria and Prussia.
I've seen several videos on Moldova and it was nice to watch another one. It's wonderful to see such happiness from the people despite their country's plight. The fermented watermelon was an interesting highlight, even if it wasn't a cultural food...that guy obviously perfected the process. Thanks for sharing!
pickled green tomatoes and pickled cauliflower are the best if you wonder what's an absolutely 10/10 recipe from that part of the world, it's "ciorba de burta" or tripe soup
Westerners will have to learn how to make preserves shortly--once bananas from Ecuador or raspberries from Spain are no longer flown in at the drop of the hat. The watermelon preserved in that way is called 'wet watermelon' (Romanians make it too, and by the way, the dude selling them is definitely not from Moldova). There's also 'wet apples' although I wouldn't recommend them. They should have also tried fermented eggplants and peppers stuffed with cabbage; fantastic taste and good for your gut!
I had the opportunity to visit Moldova once, as my wife is Moldovan. During my visit, I couldn't help but notice the abundance of Orange and Moldcell stores. It seemed like there were more of these stores than there were people in the country.
Are you sure? Moldova ws split by Russian in two parts. The Eastern part of Romania is MOLDOVA, the real historical part. The Republicof Moldova isonly a region, a territory of Moldova. Maybe your grandparets were from Romanian, historical Moldova.
@@ppn194 Leova is on the romanian border and that's where my grandma was from. I have family in the area still but a lot of the history is pretty fuzzy. I know my uncles where born in Odessa but don't know exactly where the family lived.
I did not see this coming. Well pickled or fermented watermelon rind is well-known by me (for instance very old recipes in the US etc. exist). The method the seller used to ferment a whole watermelon and durance was very new to me. Thank you for sharing and stay safe, regards from Germany
Thanks for showing us somewhere that most would never think of going, but if can get a flight that cheap from the uk, then I may just take a look, it may not look the best tourist destination, but like all, its what you make of it while you’re there, the people all seemed very nice and helpful, so thanks again, have to agree with Matt, that watermelon looked past its best, but sounds like it tasted good, anyway take care and as always have fun and enjoy your travels.
Oh Julia, best laugh of the morning when you asked if Matt would like to go for a poo before stepping on the second set of scales. 🤣👍 But I love that you take the time to interact in the lives of ordinary people and are open to buying local items which is a real contribution, not only to personal finances but shows respect for local customs. I learned a lot about Moldova! Thank you!
I was in Moldova for 2 days in October during my Eurotrip tour. Stayed in Chisinau. I surprisingly liked it. I got a lot of stares at the airport and immigration officer was like WTH you doing here lolz made me present flight out of the country as proof too. But I hit all the tourist spots in one day and surprisingly enjoyed all of them. I can see why people say it’s boring cause nothing is spectacular about to. But I’m glad I went to where most people won’t. There was this lovely park I really liked and a museum too. The fall trees had just fell it was beautiful out
I've visited Moldavia twice and I plan on going there again, as I still haven't seen everything that I wanted. It's a great country for anyone who wants to go beyond the stereotypes (in particular, their wines and brandies are fabulous). Fun fact: it's almost the same size as my own country (Belgium) and bilingual as well 😊
I have been to Bucharest twice now and wanted to take the night train to Chisinau, but COVID restrictions prevented me from doing so. I have also been to Ukraine twice (Lviv & Kyiv) and I can definitely see bits of both Romania and Ukraine in Chisinau. Great video guys, I enjoyed watching this a great deal.
Considere to take a plane, or at least a sleeping sit. From Bucharest to Chisinau by train you can travel like 8 hours. It is way to much even for a hush romanian stomach.
You spoke Russian to the bus driver from Iasi (pronounced "Yash"). I find this interesting because Russian is spoken in Moldova but not so much in Romania. I was in Lugansk and Donetsk before the current war so I know Russia but don't speak it very well. I am American and my wife is Romanian. We've traveled all over Romania including Iasi, where we also traveled to Moldova. I enjoyed this video and will be watching some more. Thanks.
I have been in Bulgaria and Moldova this year, and I loved Moldova way more than Bulgaria because of his nice and warm people. Interesting food and culture... Will visit it again for sure
I enjoyed this so very much. I’ve always wondered what it was like in Moldova. The food looked delicious! Thank you for all you do for us. Enjoy and safe travels! ❤️
Thank you for letting us know a bit of Moldovia. IMHO I found that city rather sad. The Soviet blocks of flats, the decrepit streets, the weather. I felt that those people on the streets deserved a better life, in a much happier country. When I visited Romania quite a few years ago, I had the same feeling. You should go to the countryside and see how people live there, I believe things haven't changed that much even today.
Many thanks for sharing another adventure ❤you two are so cool exploring the town! I have never seen pickled watermelon🙂 maybee a new hit introducing into UK?
Welcome in our country! It's better in summer or late spring, less depressing and there are some nice places to visit but not in Chisineu for next time .😉
You guys are our favorite travel bloggers, thank you. Love the old Soviet architecture. The youths of Chisinau must have a lot of money for spray paint :)

I so enjoyed that video, Matt & Julia. The journey from UK to Moldova was interesting to watch. I loved the painting of the little cottages, it was so beautiful. Life looks hard in Moldova, I hope better times come soon. 🇬🇧🇲🇩
Moldova, a country that is slowly climbing up in prosperity. That's what someone said. The people are hosting some of the Ukrainian families, so the country is appreciative of people who come to visit. It looks really interesting. Quite unique architecture. Linguistically unique as well, with several languages spoken now that Ukrainian people are there too. I didn't know Romanian language was that close to Latin, thank you for improving my knowledge. Snowed here, 0 degrees, so your video shares that experience with winds too. Enjoy! I'll keep watching. 🇨🇦
Russian have been spoken there aswell for some time now, not just because Ukrainians recently escaped to there. There is also a breakaway region in the east that is pro russia, lol
Russians traveling to Moldova from Britain! That's fascinating! Romanian bus station looked much like Russian ones :) My father has a coed who is Moldovan and lives in Moldova. He once had a road trip from Karelia, Russia to Bulgaria through Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. Father hasn't seen his coed for more than 25 years by that moment. He had an idea to meet his coed for a cup of coffee and continue their travel. They've stayed in Moldova for three days though and were excited by the hospitality of locals :)
Just to let know other people arriving to Iasi and going to Chisinau: most micro-BUSes going from Iasi to Chisinau GO VIA IASI AIRPORT - you just have to wait in front of the Iasi Airport and they stop there almost every hour. No need to travel to Bus Station!!! Same is vatable vice versa from Chisinau to Iasi Airport.

It is an agricultural wine country. In fact, it is most famous as wine producer.
It is very much an agricultural wine country. I recommend you go and try their wine, absolutely delicious.
Moldova has been a wine country for many ceturies, and still is.
This gives me flashbacks to my childhood in Czechia of the 1990s. This is exactly how some of the rustbelt cities looked like shortly after the downfall of Communism. I wish better times for Moldova. They deserve it.

Matt and Julia, you truly take us to places that we don't think about. For that we are grateful. and the Moldovan People. You are artists that paint pictures on video. One day, Harriet and I will visit.

Thank you for visiting us! There are great positive changes form the 90's. You should come again. You are welcome!
@@andreipop5805 I have heard of Baia Mare because of your rugby team. It’s not a very famous rugby team but it’s famous enough that people who are interested in European rugby will know about it. They even played in a tournament in South Africa recently.
I read the title and knew you were heading for the beautiful country of Moldova. Been there 3 times in the late 2000s. Wonderful country with even more wonderful people.
I was touched that you held the ladies painting to your heart. It was her husband’s work, and he had died.
Moldova is very interesting. So glad to see you guys travelling and happy again. Can't wait to see what adventures you went on. 😍🤩
I 2004 I went on a small cruise ship and we landed at Odessa. I walked around the streets and was quite shocked at how derelict it was where we landed. Seeing people selling little trays of very small fish in streets. There was an area of artists and I bought a water colur painting. It is framed and on my wall. So lovely.
How interesting 🥰 thank you for sharing ❤️🙏🏼

I went to moldova when i was 15 with my friend. We stayed at his grandparents apartment in transnistria ,which the government deemed "not safe for travel" but ,when I went i received nothing but love. One time I ordered a pizza and they gave us 2 just because I was foreign.

Thank you so much! Really appreciate it! 🥰 Yes, this is the same city ❤️

People of Moldova endured a lot worse calamities throughout history than not having tourists. Eventually they will weather this one out too.
Amazing.
Think Roma (as in the Eternal city), Roman, Romanian. There you go, hidden in plain sight.
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed it 🥰❤️
He gave me an idea , we got a lot of watetmelon on this tropical country. Ill try doing it this Christmas vacay.
You pickle unripe watermelon.
pickled green tomatoes and pickled cauliflower are the best
if you wonder what's an absolutely 10/10 recipe from that part of the world, it's "ciorba de burta" or tripe soup
Think you! I’m from Moldova as well 😊 🇲🇩
I'm always fascinated when I get to see Moldova. My grandparrents where from that area but I've never had a chance to go see it myself.
Try it one day, hope you will not be disappointed.

It's just pickled watermelon in light salt. The rest was bs by seller.
Yes but not as easy as it sounds when doing it for 70days and getting these results
Thank you so much David! Really appreciate it 🥰 hope you get the chance to go! lots of love❤️
The fall trees had just fell it was beautiful out
Thank you Matt and Julia for another wonderful tour, I enjoyed it immensely. The paintings were beautiful😍

Thanks.

The people are hosting some of the Ukrainian families, so the country is appreciative of people who come to visit.
