yummy!! i grew up eating this all the time because my mom loved it. she also made rau muong xao chao too. home cooked vietnamese food is the best! great video, helen! :)
My favorite: water spinach. So healthy yet cheap back home, but more expensive here abroad. I am a Filipina and I love Filipino food but when I got here in France I got to taste Vietnamese nems which were really good. Now I am a fan of Vietnamese food. Merci Helen!
when i. visited vietnam many years ago, i was so excited by the flavour of this vegetable. i think my mom was quite surprised i would ask for it almost every single meal, because it was not that special to her... i have fond memories of this dish... thank you
I am an Afro-American guy and I am totally new to Vietnamese cuisine!!!.So today I went to have lunch at a very lovely Vietnamese Restaurant in the China- town section in Manhattan,New York City. I ordered a dish of water-spinach with garlic/garlic sauce because I had watched your video on how to make it at home.Well.... all I can say was WOW..that was great!!!It was very tasty, very garlicky and very flavorful and very filling.I had my portion with bits of beef included as well, and an order of green tea to wash it all down. This was my first time and it really exceeded my expectations in terms of flavor!.So let me say to all my Black sisters and brothers out there....Lay off the Mickey-Deeze ,Southern Fried Chicken,Smothered Pork Chops , Pigs Feet and Ribs,.and start to eat and enjoy Vietnamese cuisine!!!. You will love it and live a lot longer life too! To your health!!!
I made this for my dad and he loves it!! I'm a beginner cooker and I really appreciate you making Vietnamese food so simply. Thank you. Cam on Chi Helen!!
helen oii! you are the best! i am vietnamese and live away from home. when i miss my mums cooking i always watch your recipes because they are delicious and taste authentic ! everything i want to cook, you already have a video for! THANK YOU SO MUCH :) Keep it up!
Great! send me some photos ok!
I just bought this at the farmer's market! I'm so excited to try this! Thanks again for all the great recipes!!
I made this dish for my husband and he loves it! Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for making this video and teaching us how to make decisions Vietnamese salad.
I love this simple dish...so good and healthy. Thank you Helen. You are doing a good job. Keep it up...
Thank you Helen for posting this video. And thank you the one behind the camera as well .I am collecting your cooking vids to save them to my flash card to play them on my big screen TV .This clip reminded me of my wife,s favorite dish : Rau muong .I am going to cook for her today. Thanks again for the clip.
Cheers from Canada.
Thank you so much for this video. I followed your video to cook two times already and it is delicious each time. Wow! Rau muong is expensive nowadays. It cost me $4.50 for a big bundle; but it is worth it because the restaurant charges $13 for a medium order.
that looks absolutely delicious! when I was in Vietnam I had water spinach everyday, but they were ground grown not water grown, water grown cost much more
Helen can cook so many things.
Helen is very intelligent.
This is also very cheap and yummy in the Philippines! But the leaves of water spinach here is wider. We also like to dip it in soy sauce with a little chili sauce.
I love eating this! I commented on one of your other videos saying I recently discovered your cooking videos. Vietnamese dishes are hard to make, I think, because they have a lot of ingredients and lots to prepare. You inspire me to try to learn how to cook more Vietnamese foods. I like how you make it easy to understand and follow. That really helps a lot.
This was probably the only real GREEN vegetable I would eat as a kid and I love it!
Rau muống xào tỏi làm làm giữ được màu xanh, giòn, quá ngon...
I was lucky enough to get some water spinach yesterday..the Vietnamese people at the salon next door have a guy who brings it to South Carolina from Florida, and I just happened to be there when he arrived :) They said it was Chinese broccoli, but when I searched for recipes for that, it didn't look like what I have. I can't wait to try your recipe!
i want some right now!!! Thanks for another great recipe.
Thank you for sharing this Helen! When I lived in China this was my favorite vegetable. They call it 空心菜 kong xin cai "empty heart vegetable" because of the hollow stem. So delicious with just a bit of garlic and salt! In Seattle, I am lucky I can find rau muống at most Vietnamese or Chinese grocery stores but, you are right it can be expensive!
I have a bunch of water spinach growing at home. THey're really easy to grow and love water
My mom always makes this for me and I loved it even though I hate vegetables
Please, please....keep the simple/everyday meals coming! You are the best!! LOL

Chào bạn mình rất thích nấu ăn và tiếng anh. Mình cảm thấy thú vị khi xem bạn làm món rau muốn xào tỏi ^^
da cam on bac, de lan sau con lam thu ^^
I love kangkong that was the only veggie i would eat as a kid. I am so making this soon!
Perfect! Bon Appetit!
Thank you, thank you! For teaching these simple dishes! :-)
I used to eat a quite similar dish while spending some time in Thailand. But there it's more commonly called morning glory, and they mostly season it with yellow bean sauce and fish sauce. And they also don't parboil it, but throw it into a wok when smoking hot and flames arise;)
I will try this out. Love your videos. More recipes please :)
this dish is also very popular in malaysia/singapore. simple fry with garlic or sambal.
but you made it look so delicious ... :)
Thanks for your support and please keep it up :)
you are so kind ^^ Muaah!
Today, I gave it a try. Simple but very delicious! I might come back for more ;-)
Nice video. Thank u
Thank you for this. Similar to what my mother does with hers. thanks for refresher :D.. yum!!!
i love your recipe helen.we also have lots of this veg in phils...
It look so easy...thank u ;-)
I love sparing the boiled water with the juice from water spinach for a simple 'soup' yayyy! But as far as I'm convinced, the stir-fried water spinach will remain crunchy and green much longer if I don't put them to boil beforehand. Throwing them raw straight into the wok with highest heat and generous oil is the key :P
You have thanked me twice because I am also the one behind the camera hihi. And send my regards to your wife who has a great husband ;)
Chị ơi bí quyết rau xanh là chị cho ít muối hạt lúc rau sôi rồi vớt ra để ráo. Cách thứ hai xao luôn rau k Cần luộc rồi để lại chút rau đổ nc thành canh lun ^^

hi Ms.Helen, Thanks for this famous Vietnamese recipe..I am happy to watch this video. I do love this.....whenever i go restaurant in VN..i order Rau Muong....i like its simplicity and taste......If I cant get water spinach in my home, I will try with other spinach as you explained...is there any veg.substitute for Oyter sauce to serve for vegetarian?

salamat for sharing your spareribs recipe....
It is kangkong. And best regards to Singapore. :)
Thanks. I've always wanted to make this at home. It's expensive at the restaurants!
yes I do
Nice!
Hi Annie, it's perfectly fine to stir-fry without blanching, but you need a big wok on high heat (or make a small amount at a time). Otherwise it may long time to cook.
i will eat more vegetables, but don't know if i stay healthy. Love rau muong, where is the deep fried fish with spicy nuoc man. mouth watering video.
trên cả tuyệt vời
món rau duy nhất mà e thik ăn hi hi :p
Yummy looks great keep up the good work:D
Thank you, i'll do this dish today... Cam on em! I subscribed by the way.. :)

So true. Water spinach in the US is way too expensive. I would eat this dish every day if it was less expensive. Best comfort food.
Me too!

love from india 👌✌️
Hey Helen. Love your videos. However may I skip the blanching step just to keep more nutrients? Will stir-frying the water spinach directly without blanching leaves a bitter taste to the dish?
em hoc lop 5 ... eem thay chi làm mà em thèm làm sao ấy
YUM thanks Helen!
awesome thankyou!
message received and understood!! thank you lolol :)
