A Touch of Magic on the Steepest Munro: Beinn Sgritheall

- A good weather window prompted me to travel up to Kintail the night before with an overnight camp in the van for an ascent of Beinn Sgritheall the following morning. This mountain is often referred to as the steepest Munro. Although I had no real summit views I was treated to fog bows and my first broken spectre. A truly magical experience which had me wandering around the summit for at least an hour. Magnificent views across Loch Hourn to Knoydart on the descent.
My route: www.walkhighla...
My videos are not intended to be an exact guide to any hill, mountain or low level walk that features in the video. I don’t cover every aspect of the route, terrain or difficulties.
Please refer to walkhighlands.co.uk or the book by the SMC, The Munros - Hillwalking Guide, for detailed walk descriptions.
Stay safe out there and enjoy! 😊
Well worth the steep hike for those Brockens , when you catch one for the 1st time its magic moment.👍
It certainly was Rob, waited a long time for one. Thanks for watching. 👍
Big respect doing that little rock step with a dog in one hand and a camera in the other. I don’t like heights and it made me think a bit when I was last up there.
It’s certainly tricky, maybe if I’d been able to see the drop on either side without the mist I might have put the camera away. Thanks for watching. 👍
Awesome video- very interesting video-be safe
Thanks Dave. 👍
Good vid 2 out of 2 so far. Like your style. Not to flash, just down to earth.
Awesome video Linda, really magical. Beinn Sgritheall is demanding but really worth the „struggle“.
Thanks so much. Definitely a wee bit of magic on the summit. 👍
Superb Linda! It doesn’t get any better than that! Brilliant.
Thanks Paul, it was a fab day! 👍
Fabulous vlog thank you, loved your walk. Towards the end you passed a cottage with red deer in front of it. I used to live there and it was usual for upwards of 20 to feed there. In fact I have video of them taking nuts from a bird feeder just outside the porch window.
Wow, what an amazing place to live. I love that wee corner of Scotland. Arnisdale has such a picturesque setting looking over to Knoydart. Thanks so much for watching. 👍
Nice one Linda and well done on finally getting a broken spectre.
I'm sitting on 267 munros amd mine are also quite far north and needing big days out to get them bagged.
Good to see another female making outdoors videos
Thanks Stevie, you’re nearly there (282). No new ones for the rest of this year for me but going to enjoy doing some more local repeats. Thanks for watching. 👍
Really enjoyed this one. Looks like the Fogbow and Spector gods were with you.
Thanks Russell, I was really lucky. Thanks for watching. 👍
Another cracking video Linda 👏
I did this one 5 yrs ago but I wasn't as lucky as you with fogbows and brocken spectres, a truly memorable day 👍
Enjoyed that Linda. Enjoy the repeats until u start the final countdown again next year.
Thanks Selwyn. 👍
One I’ve still to do. Looks a toughie. Great video, thanks for sharing. 👍
Keep it for a good weather day if you can. Thanks for watching. 😂
Just stumbled on your channel whilst watching UA-cam Linda ..I am very impressed with how you film your adventures climbing Munroe's..Love your doggy companion Jura too ! 🤗
Thanks so much Melanie. 👍🙏
Another great video Linda nice van take care
Thanks Robert. 👍
Stunning Linda. That's what it's all aboot 😎👌 What a year it's been for inversions, fog bows and Brockens.
Thanks Kevin, waited a while for a Broken Spectre! Was a magic experience. 👍
Great effort!
Thanks for watching, a steep Munro right enough! 👍
Wow what a hike spectres a go go super stuff 😊 I’ve never seen one so very envious 😊🙏🏼 all the best Simon
Thanks Simon, it was truly magical. 👍
A lovely video Linda. Beinn Sgritheall was my last Munro in October 1993 and Ladhar Bheinn my penultimate Munro, so that area around Loch Hourn has a really special place in my heart... I thoroughly enjoy you're videos, please you and Jura, keep up the good work... 👍😊
Thanks David. Beinn Sgritheall was going to be my last one but I had a change of heart. Ladhar Bheinn is my favourite Munro. Like you I love ❤️ this area. Thanks for watching. 👍
Excellent Linda....Fogbow/Brocken central, lol.Great conditions you got and it's hard to walk away from the top case it cleared.A right steepy this one and like you found the tree section in descent tricky.Still my favourite scenic start from the car though right at the waters edge.Great video.😎👍👍
Thanks Andy! It was going to be my last one but changed my mind as it’s a such a slog to the top if the weather’s rubbish. Really lucky with the conditions I got. 👍
A great day for you and us to share, many thanks. This hill still looks the same. By that I mean the ridge at 7.19mins. It is mainly grass and soil, years ago I expected this to be washed away to be all rock. Surprising it holds up so well against, wind, rain, continual frost & freezing, the grass must be like concrete. PS Do we get an invite to the last munro:)
I suspect it’s a less visited Munro than most so less erosion but a cracking hill! You’re invite’s in the post! 🤣
@@LindaOutdoors I checked a spread sheet we keep of Munros done. A friend is down to 12 to do, another has 31. We only visit once a year, Killin already booked for 2022. We had been told years ago that munroists leave the hardest / remotests hills until last. So changed tack how we did the hills and started in the North then North West workimg South. Stay safe if out over winter.
Brilliant upload for a Tuesday evening Linda. How are you feeling counting down your Munros towards 282? What an achievement that will be and to FINALLY get a broken spectre 🙌
Thanks Keith. I’m really enjoying the my Munro journey. I try my best to pick the better weather days if possible to get the best experience. I’ve done my fair share in brutal weather too right enough. 👍
@@LindaOutdoors Well done and it's such a privilege for me getting an opportunity to see this event in your life happen. Bless wee tooter Jura and his plastic create for a bed 🥰
Looks amazing, what a beautiful day. Is your jacket the mountain equipment superflux? I have just bought one, should be arriving tomorrow.
Thanks Jennifer. Yes, it is that very jacket. I love it and am thinking about getting another as I’ve got 2 small annoying tears in the arm from barbed wire! Thanks for watching & enjoy the jacket, super cosy. 👍
What a fab video Linda, thanks for sharing with us. I have still yet to see an inversion or brokenspectre, although given the smaller mountains i'm used to in Snowdonia its always less likely! Which Munros have you left to do?
Thanks Mike. Mostly all the harder ones left. Ben Nevis & Carn Mor Dearg, Sgurr Mor (Glen Dessary), 8 Cuillins, 5 Fisherfield, Ben Alder & Beinn Bheoil, Bidein a' Choire Sheasgaich and Lurg Mhòr, Ben More Assynt & 3 in Glen Affric. Just a walk in the park!! 😂 Thanks for watching. 👍
