Some species of Ants have several queens and therefore don't send out flyers to breed with others so bile titans acting as queens makes total sense
For all the people saying he forgot bugs. Not all the bugs have a single picture of just themselves and no background so its easier to just skip them than actually play and grap a screenshot and edit the background out
Now THAT is incredibly true. Thank you for bringing that up!! I was able to find good pics for most of the bugs.
But I’m working on the automatons video next, mannnnn there is not many good pics around for some of them.
I would say you’re close but just a bit off, I would say they are not based on sexes, but more like an ant colony having differing features based on job. Such as workers, warrior, repletes, and queen. Similarly there are 3 scout variants that I think start the lines off the green bile ones, the orange ones, and the mini hunter ones.
What about termites? I'm pretty sure some of them spit acid and have a termites have 50/50 I think
@jeremym4451 potentially although there are also species of ants that do all sorts of stuff, be it shoot acid, chemically brainwash other ants or use a hardened forehead like a door. There's even one species that explodes when it's losing a fight/is overwhelmed and can't win.
@@cringejoestar9791 I know ants are quite insane but I'm throwing everything at it
@jeremym4451 entirely valid actually, from what can be gathered terminids also have a closed circulatory system and potentially also bones of some kind so they've got bits of various things scattered into them with a surface of insectoid
@@jeremym4451well they are called TERMInids. The TERMIte influence seems more likely than ants
Bile Spewers and Bile Titans have forelegs, they're just much smaller. Chargers also have small claws folded up underneath them, next to their heads. All terminids have six legs.
Personally, I don't think the Charger is an older Hive Guard, Guards look like they are at their end of the life cycle, like adults, but warriors either develop into a guard, or brood commander, and I think the reason Chargers look so different to most other bugs is because it's just a mutation that can occur. I don't think any other bug has a solid grey chitinous exoskeleton.
Hive guards and brood commanders look so similar I've confused them in the field. I suspect they are directly related developmentally, with chargers being either a separate branch off of warriors or literally just overgrown scavengers that skipped the warrior stage altogether.
You bring up a great point here. I like that idea as well. My thought was just armor leads to more armor. But that’s true that nothing else looks like that.
They could be kind of like the dachshunds of the space bug world. Just unique little guys
Super earth did do genetic experimentation on the terminids during the 100 years of peace so the bugs we are fighting now are slightly different from the bugs that were fought in the past I believe we can safely assume that any developmental or genetic anomaly / discrepancy that simply wouldn't make sense in the life cycle is probably a example of that

Hive Lords are father of all
Well. There is a hive lord 👀 that could spawn bug breaches. So there’s your master hive mind
It's sort of reminiscent of how aliens worked in the game X-COM: Apocalypse
A lot of Eusocial bugs, (the hive species) don't really conform to male/female biology (or gender ideas) There's typically three-ish sexes, depending on development. The scavenger-guard-charger/scavenger-hunter-stalker could be Showing that sexual trimorphism seen in real world hive species. However, that does beg the question of where do the shreikers come into this?
The shriekers are a mutation created from the termicide the bile line was specifically stated by the devs to be a result of chemical spills there was obviously a developmental cycle but it is heavily being influenced by outside genetic interference and experimentation
Most of the changes were done by exsperimentation and studies conducted by us.
The Officers admit it on our ship; futher more what we have are different sub-species of bugs and that connects to how we have nursing spewers and Bile spewers
"Hold the Scavenger. hold them gently like hamburger, squish them squish them all."
Transcript from *The Super Earth Guide to Raising Terminids for Intelligent Super Earth Citizens*
Another thing, if you look at the Bile Titan's mission description, it mentions having to take them out so the bugs can stop expanding, something along those lines, so Bile Titans likely did lay the eggs but we have confirmation via mission description
Imagine there's another species that hunts bile titans
They‘re considered medium enemies in the code and the first game
I had a group of bugs sympathizing with me but...that was their greatest mistake
Ants are a really good example of how a single species can have a large variety of genomes due to the diet or some form of influence when they are in the egg stage and I believe the terminids work off a similar system hence why we seem to have the three smaller bug variants of the ankle biters that then branch off into other sub species like some become stalkers while the other winged ones become shriekers. It's really cool the details they put into this game and I can't get enough of it.
Both the bugs and the bots are far easier to root for than super earth lmao

I think term you are searching for is "morphs" when talking about same species/different look thing in bugs :P
Which is really cool idea for sentient bug specias, you would expect of it to have super complex morphology and social system
Automatons are trying to get bugs on their side. We need to stop that.
There's also a scene in the trailer for HD2 where the helldiver pops the bile titan's head off with a rocket and all the surrounding bugs that were facing the titan were in utter horror. This is when I figured they might be one or species or group.
When talking about eusocial insects, they tend to have ways of manipulating larvae to develop into specific forms like the door ant, or how bees feed royal jelly to produce a queen. Vying for positions like commander are foreign concepts to those in a eusocial system where function determines action.
That said, even in species where their is conflict for role (such as gamergates like trapjaws), there is little change to overall structure.
The grandfather's b01 helmet has to be my favorite version of it.

I compared the Terminids to the Tyranids through how they're Arthropods with Dragon/Bat-like wings instead of Insect-like wings
before I even thought about how close their names are
remember that most of the termanids we fight are mutated by Super Earth not just regular evolved and adapted animals
I got a overwolf ad in the corner with a Terminid on it lol
Im guessing the relation of the nursery spewer and the bile spewer is that the former forfeited armor since it probably prioritized nursing the baby bugs

when you think about it, each one being simply a different stage of life would make certain balancing decisions make much more sense. the chargers are lesser in number, and their armor on their heads more fragile because they've had less time. less big bugs are around, and more small ones are.
The bile spewer can split off into a nursing spewer, also, the Stalker could become a screamer, the flying one
The rear portion of an insect is actually called the abdomen. The mid section where the legs are connected is the Thorax
Super Earth initially found rich deposits of oil on Terminid controlled planets. Super Earth only realized halfway through the war for said oil that Terminids decay rapidly into oil. (Source: Ship scientist quotes and war update logs from Helldivers 1) Also 'relatively sentient' really undersells how social and intelligent the terminids are. They outmaneuvered a civilization with artillery, air support, nuclear weaponry, and rapid space travel.
honestly i think there are 3 categories of bugs
*Orange bugs:*
Hive guard --> Charger --> behemoth charger
/
scavenger --> warrior --> brood commander
*White, orange winged bugs:*
Shrieker
/
pouncer --> hunter --> stalker
*darker, bile spewing bugs:*
bile spitter --> bile warrior --> nursing spewer --> bile spewer --> bile titan
based on colour schemes and physical characteristics, like wings or bile spitting, they can be divided into 3 'catergories' or life cycles that look distinctively different from eachother, so i dont think its just a difference between male and female, but rather they operate on potentially a 3 sex basis
Reminds me of how ants often have different body plans for different jobs, while still being one species
You know I bet all the bile could be used for breaking down the food that all the “oranges” bring back. Like digestive acid that could break food down to allow for the other more specialized terminids (who probably lack more complicated digestive systems) to consume and continue the hunt.
one more thing... in the trailer u see a helldiver shooting a bile titans head of... this titan is sourroundet by warrioir bugs, seemingly interacting with them...
Leafcutter ants will create little outposts around the trees to keep an eye on the forest and get a wider hunting ground. Sounds like stalker lairs to me.
I thought the same thinks as you since my first time playing this game and also don't forget that green acid could be very much a deffensive evolution for not getting eaten (as acid would damage other party and just killing for eating the head would be a waste of both time and energy)
Can you do apart 2 of this, about the new flying bugs, and the up and coming truelly massive worm bugs. 😊
I'm actually more inclined to believe they are different evolution strands based on certain goals for the nest with the bile spewers being a big one.
It isn't ever explained what type of food terminids eat, but I've always theorized that they eat both organic and inorganic material as it would explain how they thrive of on plants they infest. It would also explain why scavengers are called exactly that as it would be an Alternative to the hunters as a good source of food.
The big one for me though are the spewers and there corrosive bile that mostly like is able to break down materials for the hive.
I wish you showed more bug types like the normal scavenger and also the younger huntet varient known as the pouncer
I do really like the male/female theory although whats the deal with the nursing spewer given its just a yellow bile spewer
It is worth noting that the winged bugs are canonically a result of a failed pesticide, so possibly something that was in their evolutionary history that the pesticide triggered the latent genes for, akin to how you can chemically cause axolotls to grow into a relatively normal salamander despite their life cycle no longer naturally leading them to go through that change.
I’ve had the same thought, specifically about the bile line.
Terminids aren't seen actually eating humans. The most interesting hypothesis I have seen are that terminids have a mutual relationship with a fungus like some ants, essentially farming fungus colonies for food. This explains the spore spewers and slime mold-like structures you find across terminid areas, as well as the little fungus stalk common samples.
Also, bile castes (developed by genetic augmentation in super earth captivity) live alongside the other terminids, despite being radically different in appearance and presumably chemical signature. This implies that terminids have higher-level communication and thought than you'd think, because otherwise bile terminids would be treated as outsiders. Instead, they are welcomed amongst their mainline brethren despite bile being quite volatile and toxic to other terminids.
The terminids have aesthetic characteristics of termites and giand water bugs while not having antennae like fleas or insect close relatives proturas. However, I feel that the stalker and hunters do have a resemblance to Mayflies and the charger with giant water bug. Also those terminal filaments looks like the giant water bug terminal filaments. I am no expert but went on a rabbit hole to find bugs with no antennae (like fleas) and with similar looking terminal filaments (giant water bug and Mayflies and some termites).
The only flaw in your theory is that there is a difference between bile spewer and nursing spewers/ the male and female variety. There is a bile warrior so it would make sense that there are two races/types of scavengers that evolve differently going from orange scavenger-warrior-brood commander or hive guard and if it grew into a hive guard it would evolve to a charger and the green/bile scavengers go to bile warrior-bile spewer/nursing spewer depending on gender-bile titan. And then with the winged scavengers they could branch into either hunters or the flying guys and if they grew to hunters they would then grow into stalkers.
To clarify lines would go like this
Scavenger-warrior-brood commander
Scavenger-warrior-hive guard-charger
Bile scavenger-bile warrior-bile spewer/nursing spewer-bile titan
Pouncer-hunter-stalker
Pouncer-hunter-shrieker
I personally think the stalker is an experiment since its so far removed and spawns the nest near research stations ive noticed
Was there ever a question of rather or not these were all the same species with a mix of sub species and different ages?
they are a single species just like ants of termites that have a great variety of specialized phenotypes for different tasks like warrnors , workers , drones , queens etc
@@KT-pv3kl Was there ever a question of rather or not these were all the same species with a mix of sub species and different ages?
@@Koppu1doragon they arent sub species its all the exact same species and yes different bugs are juveniles of the larger variants.
The idea that chargers are evolved or older hive gaurds makes complete sense when you remember that charges will often hibernate underground in the center of a large nest and awaken when a threat is detected! I also wonder whether any understanding of the terminids biology can be drawn from earth bugs. Fun thought crimes to ponder about non the less!
I think the orange and green are separate species or subspecies, but both strains have different metamorphic stages, ending with the bile titan and charger respectively. I do think the hunters, stalkers and flying ones are a branch of the orange metamorphic branch.
Hivemind theory contradicts the whole "bug culture" thing, if they are under rule of a single sentient mind, why conflict with each other, "send" stalkers fir elimination, etc
You forgot to mention the pouncer, which seems to be a younger version of the hunter. And the nursing spewer, who seem to be a less toxic version of bile spewers.
5:30 you know in the first game theres an enemy thats grey version of hive guard and it would put testicle spikes a few feet from it that would stab up.
I think the hive gaurd could become this maybe possibly idk
Another version of this idea is that the bugs are eusocial like ants and termites. There's different types of let's say ants, worker and warrior ants are the same but have different roles like you mentioned in the video
The small green spitter now does damage over time
I honestly feel most of the bugs are female. That how it usually is in termite and ant colonies. And orange can't mean male because the nursing speewer exists and is essentially a weaker bile spewer except they bring a cloud of orange mist with them to protect smaller bugs. The only one's that may be male are the winged bugs pouncer, hunter,Stalker and shrieker. when you think about it most colonies only create males or (drones) to breed and then they are later kicked out of the nest when no longer nedded to survive on their own. These drones usually have and keep their wings unlike ther none queen female counterparts. The 2 enemies with separate nests both have wings and tend to fight in a hit and run style instead of the swarm style of most of the other bugs. And I don't think any of the bugs we currently have lay eggs st most would probably be the 2 spewers but the feel they are more like how honeypot ants operate where they store lots of food in their bodies for the rest of the colony to eat via Trophylaxis (idk if i spelled it right). And while I believe may of the smaller bugs are just other bugs at different stanges of their life cycle the massive differences in many of the bugs may be due to the diet they where subjected to when in their incubation. This is how most colony bugs operate and why especially ants of the same colony have a huge diverse set of body types made for different jobs. In conclusion its most likely a mix of a special diet and the lifecycle of the bugs to causes thair massive differences.
but it make sense to have the warriors be the mals, because they are expandeble. you dont need that much of them to procreate.
@@J.Severin This is true you don't need a lot of males but as stated earlier I'm thinking of most colony insects Ant majors and minors and everything in-between are all female so the fighting bug can be akin to the warriors (soldier), brood commander (veteran/major soldier), hive guard (inspired from the door ant), scavengers (worker), Spewers (Honeypot ant) chargers and Bile titans would be super majors for their orange and green counterparts. For hives everyone is expendable except the queen and most ant, termite, and bee colonies are 99% female and all of them except 1-5 depending on the size of the colony aren't queens so the female ants are even more expendable than the males. The males are grown to breed ( they usually don't assist with labor) then they are discarded from the colony the females do most of the dangerous jobs of protecting the hive
Now question, what about the orange “nursing spewers” is that they’re called. It’s light armor where the green “bile spitter” is medium armor
I had already figured that they were grown versions of one another.
I dont think that the separation is male and female , because if you see well the terminids seems to have 3 branches, warriors, spewers, and hunters and for each one there is a scavenger version, we have the scavenger that metamorphises into the the warrior, hiveguard, chargers and brood comanders, the we have the spitters, that metamorphises into the bile spewers, and bile titans , and the leapers (the mini hunters) that metamorphises into the hunters , stalkers and shriekers, it doesnt seems like sex dimorphism, is more like mutations for a specific role in the hive , like some kind of age stages , but it just my idea , they all squish the same for me
Liberty has left this traitor’s hearts.
Actually I think it’s more like eusocial insects, pheromones rely complex or direct instructions that the bugs obey or react to. Not so much a shared mind and more of a preprogrammed response with little hesitation behind it
That "charger" photo is actually a behemoth. It is the upgraded version of the charger. Note the big head crest.
Damn I was hoping you would bring the bugs in Helldivers 1
Not to be "that guy" but on the hunter part you forgot the smaller ones called "Pouncers" which are the scavenger equivalent, they die in one shot basically but they do jump a lot farther
All a good citizen need to know about the bugs is they bleed, thus, they can die.
You're right. There is a bigger bug. It's called a hivelord, and it digs tunnels throughout a planet for the hive. They don't surface very often but can be forced to surface using tech.
I honestly dont understand how this can be treasonous in any way. In fact, by knowing the biology and anatomy of the bugs, i would think it could only help us by being better informed of how the bugs "think" and operate as a species, then allow us to better combat them on the battlefield.
Im pretty sure from what we know bile titans are actually considered "small" on their own planets
Check Helldivers 1: there is a bigger bug and we can even find skeletons of it in Helldivers 2.
Stalkers don't fit to the theory though, having separated nests from hunters 😢
I always thought the termininds are going through life cylces, but i thought the tiny "male" bugs were the baby versions of the chargers cuz they look similar
I think that the bugs are more like the ants on Earth: some ants are workers, soldiers, queens based on what they eat or how much they eat. So the different variations are conditioned by the quantity of the food and the type of food. The different characteristics are justified because ant soldiers and queens have functional wings while the worker ones have "dormant" wings which explains why different characteristics appear during the types of bugs.
Maybe the bugs are structured like an ant colony and as they grow up they split into different specialties
Ngl the voice transitions are pretty funny
Also I think all the terminids we see are female; colony-based insects like bees and ants are all females, males only exist briefly to mate with the queen and then die.
The rest of the colony is infertile female workers/soldiers. Presumably the terminid queen lays a bunch of egg clusters which specialize into different roles much like ants who hatch workers and soldiers and more specialized roles like ants with big swollen butts that act as living food storage (like spewers) or that one ant with a huge head who acts as the door to a nest (like hive guard/chargers)
