We had the exact same experience with TGTB K. Started out great and then we hit a wall and it seemed like it was picking up speed too quickly for her. We stopped using it entirely in February. We focused on BOB books, reading aloud together, copywork/handwriting and it was a night and day difference!! Glad you figured out something that works!
Aw man, I’m sorry it didn’t work for you either, but I’m so happy you found your groove! Your approach is fantastic and I’m thinking about doing something similar with my son in the future. 😊💕
I was definitely interested in your thoughts on Jot it down, because that's something I might consider using in the future. My impression was more that the Part 1 and Part 2 of the book were general "big picture" ideas for the parent to weave into life in natural conversations and playing with language, but the part 3 with writing projects were the work with the child to schedule each month; Loved hearing your thoughts on these different resources.
It’s definitely a great curriculum, and yes you are absolutely right! She does put a big emphasis on those first two parts as big picture things! I think I was a little disappointed because I was hoping for a writing curriculum that was less a guide to language arts and more focus on the writing projects themselves. It seemed like it was meant for first time homeschooler situation.
Most of the things you listed about TGTB are all things they are changing for the new LA coming out in June/July for K-2 so it might be something you can try again and re fall in love with! :)
TGTB phonogram cards are great. One of my favorite things from their English program. I agree about their art lessons--great concept, I don't think they did it very well though. They are coming out with a new edition--I'll be interested to see how they change it....
Logic of English has been our main curriculum for LA. In addition, doing lots of read alouds with both picture and chapter books and exploring them beyond comprehension was pivotal for creating a well-rounded LA study for us.
I can totally see why you would not like TGTB Language Arts. From your previous videos it seems that your children already appreciate great and diverse books. This is why I've never used their curriculum. The stories seem very simplistic. I love the beauty of it but I know I would get frustrated.
Great ......work thanks for sharing ideas
Thank you! 😊👍
I hear you with TGATB. I love the interactive. Notebook idea.
Omgosh, it has been a game changer!! I wish I had done the interactive notebook sooner!
Happy Friday thanks for sharing
Happy Friday mama! My pleasure 😊👍

Very helpful! Happy Friday 🤩👈🏾
Yayy! So glad to hear this was helpful for you 😊! Happy Friday to you too, wooo!!
Homeschool burnout is very sneaky! Everytime I've been burned out, I didn't realize I was until I was deep into it. 🤦♀️😳
Omgosh, tell me about it! Totally snuck up on me 😞.
Good to know my youngest in homeschool is about to start writing so good to know
So glad you found this helpful, mama! 😊👍

Ohh didn’t know that!! Yes, I’m glad to be keeping those cards and using them 😊. Not all is lost!
What have you been enjoying for LA instead?

Ughh, yeah we tried 🤷🏽♀️. The good news is that I was able to pass this along to another mama who could use it!
