Thank you Barry and Fay for that beautiful tour of that beautiful mausoleum which with its size may well have had a chapel inside as well as some seating.
I do not think this was a mausoleum-it was probably a private chapel. Had it been a mausoleum, you would have seen some evidence of niches in the walls (for urns) or crypts for bodies. Is there anything in the local archives about this?
That was the chapel of the crypt. It's where a service would have been held. The actual niches or places on which the caskets are set are down those stairs. It was common to have a small entrance to a larger underground family crypt.
Well... if you look closely at 1:41 to 1:42 you can clearly see a skull in the right corner. The corpses are probably located downstairs and most likely looted by grave robbers.
honestly, we would love to see whats down those stairs,, our rule is we don't move or break anything to gain access plus even if we wanted to theres a huge sandstone slab over the top of them
Beautiful find. I can understand why you don't want the general public to have access. Some people can't appreciate history or understand the value of beautiful grave architecture.
Thank you, everyone, for all the comments on this Video I can't believe the interest in it. We at Abandoned Yesterday thank you all for the likes comments and subs. Just some information we have been asked where we are from. We are from a small town in Scotland in the North Lanarkshire area.I do apologise to our friends from America who are struggling with my Accent.I will try to be more clear next time. we could try subtitles but even they don't understand me .thank you all for watching check us out on facebook .PS We also have been asked about our locations sorry to say we do not give locations out as we try hard to protect them
I spent my US NAVY days @ Holy Loch (Dunoon). I understood you just fine. How did you guys resist pulling up that panel and going down stairs? I think old wooden caskets are some of the most beautiful craftsmanship of expert carpenters. To bad most will never again be seen.
You have a delightful accent. I'm sure you find it hard to understand Americans too. It's what makes life interesting! That was a beautiful building . Shame it fell into such disrepair.
I will be back over in about a month, then back here to move mom and several others back over, I will be doing the back and forth thing till the beginning of summer, then I have the rest of the summer to go crazy and travel for a month straight! :)
Xlnt find! the craftsmanship on that place was incredible.the stairs under the place is where they put family members caskets & body. & the upstairs is the chapel for family funeral services. generations of family burials probably a cement slab they remove on floor to put caskets below. next time strap a go pro on a gerbil & send him down. waiting for next video of that joint!
CollidingPlanets Exploring I cked out your doll VID & it is so cool ! Did you also see the mouth moving? Also ck out doll in the cematary. CREEPY AS ALL GET OUT. Sent you the info where it is on one of your doll posts.
It’s a shame what people have done to it now they have broke all the concrete covering the steps so you can get down litter everywhere skeletons exposed it’s such a shame
The hole you photographed through was the stairway leading down into the crypt proper, where the caskets would have been placed either on shelves or into individual niches. You'd have a crew of workers take up that stone slab, then after a bit of straightening up, the deceased would be carried down and then placed inside the appropriate place.
I went to a cemetery in Scotland in 1997. The monuments are breath-takingly beautiful, gigantic. I was horrified to see the amount of grave-robbing that had been done in the cemetery. How dare thieves disturb the dead. Karma will come back to visit them and they won't like it!
even if i had family there i still wouldnt ask for the location.i would never disrespect the dead like that.i do enjoy cemeteries due to the history the headstones give me but all i do is fix stuff that fell over if i can and i leave the people there to rest in peace as i hope people will for me one day
I believe that this is the burial vault for the family of the former landowners. A lovely wee chapel. Such a shame to see it left in such a dilapidated state.
Scotland is calling me home, it will nice to go exploring once again with family and friends I have not seen since I was a small boy, so you can bet I will be videoing every trip across Scotland till I have seen everything there is to discover, and along the way maybe run into other good folk and explorers like you and Fay!
Thank you for showing us shame it was wrecked but I hope the local council will repair it as I am sure it is a place worth preserving they just do not get built like it anymore
Very smart to guard the stairs like it was a grave, so noone would disturb it. Although I don't see a name plate. There has to be someone important there! A King, Queen, a bum........
Just found this Love this video the old site and I dont understand what shes saying but at the ends she seems pretty funny and exploring and a sense of humor go great together.
I have seen this type of mausoleum before. The upper part is meant as a chapel where family members can pay their respects while the actual remains are below.
It's wonderful. Haunting, and rustic, and utterly beautiful in a way 'modern' structures are not. BTW years ago, my family was clan MacDuff Red..Greeting you from NYC!!
today is February 16th, 2018 just saw this great find! it would be awesome if you could find out some history about the owners of the grounds and who is being housed in that mausoleum..oh!...an added bonus would be to go down them stairs with ya :D adventurous it would be mate :D looking forward to the next video or if you already went and made the video will you let me know? so that i can watch it. Peace, Love, and Protection to all.
Crazy to see the video from July 2020 on UA-cam of this same place and how much it's changed. That Crypt is open now and they showed the coffins and skeletons down there. A skull is set up with burned candles all around like an altar.
Possibly part of the rest of her/him briefly appears (when paused) below (partial leg/hip-joint) & to the right (a couple ribs & spinal column?) of the skull. There are also hints of other partially unearthed skeletal remains aligned w/placement of each stair. Perhaps their coffins disintegrated or grave-robbers had at 'em, leaving their bones to lie in disarray & the remnants of their tombs haphazardly tossed about. Tragic end for a family who went to considerable lengths to ensure a sturdy, secure, aesthetically-pleasing final resting place for themselves/their descendants. just the doors & doorway by themselves reflect exquisite craftsmanship!
That's a really nice find.... It would be so nice to restore places like that ... To preserve it for future generations to enjoy history. It would be great to form a group to raise funds to begin cleaning up places like this and make a nice place for people to visit Thanks for sharing your videos ! ! !
I've no problems understanding you. Would luv to see downstairs. Someone sealed it off to protect whatevers down there. Maybe an easyer way to get down has been covered up abit by dirt on the outside of the building. Maybe found by a metal detecting is my guess. Could you try that?
we would love to go down the stairs but there was a great huge slab over it and no way would we try to remove it, it was once someone's resting place and hopefully whoever was placed there has been removed and interred somewhere else, when the family built the crypt they would have expected future generations to be interred there also,, such a shame to think what has happened to the crypt :( thats why we don't give out locations and ask viewers if they know where it is not to reveal it

For a crypt it has some beautiful architecture. I wonder when it was built? And who was placed there as their final resting place. Possibly priest so or nuns from a nearby church.
Very very cool spooky little place. Nice find. I can understand your accent fine, I think it greatly adds to the video if everyone spoke in a straight American accent that would be boring. Wow! I've never seen anything like that before. My mind wondered at all the possibilities to save this awesome structure. What could it be turned into in order to preserve it? The stone work is over the top. Could it be moved possibly and turned into an Architects Studio, wine cellar, man cave, or a place for historical artifacts. I would just hate to see it go to ruins.

What are beautiful mausoleum. The stone work is amazing. It's a pity that these buildings are left to ruin.
It’s the natural way, the true shame is that we dont make buildings with such beauty anymore
What a beautiful old structure. I really hope an interest group protects it.
Such a shame some people had to destroy this place! It must have been so beautiful at one time! Thank you though for the video.
This is one of the reasons we try to keep the location secret as some people just want to destroy .Very very sad
It doesn't appear destroyed...just abandoned. Except for Kevin's tagging
Thank you Barry and Fay for that beautiful tour of that beautiful mausoleum
which with its size may well have had a chapel inside as well as some seating.
What a beautiful old crypt and an amazing find. Thank you SO much for sharing this!
No names or dates? looks like the dead were moved. in any case, a good illustration of human vanity-built to last for eternity-but in ruins now.
