    Thank you friend for this super informative video! I like your "use what you got" approach on the technical aspects on bikes. If I may, one correction. These forks are the SFF (separate fork function) by Showa. They are a bit different to the Big Piston Fork (BPF) that you have on the title, in the sense that the BPFs are both similar, whereas the SFFs are separate as the name suggests. I have the BPF as custom set up on my '06 Z750 and I happened to notice the difference. No hate, just a tip from a fellow biker. Thanx again for taking the time to share this!

      I appreciate that you can politely point out a correction. Like I said I am not a pro mechanic. Just sharing my experience that is “effective”. I definitely don’t know it all and will happily take notes from others too. Thank you.

    if you have a fork seal that has started leaking, good idea to get some "v-blocks" and dial indicator to check the fork stanchion for bending! otherwise the new seals may leak pretty quickly!... and if you are going to separate the bushings from the fork - good idea to just put new bushings and seals regardless of whether or not it was leaking... to get the air out, you need to pump the damper in and out of the oil (not the outer fork leg) - in this case only one leg has a damper,

    Thanks for the video -- Adding a couple details for the next guy -- I believe there is one detail missing on the forks from your video -- @ 11:05 there should be an O-ring and a "bushing" (the white plastic piece). Bushing = 44065-0033 O-Ring = 92055-0174 -- those part #'s are for a 2015 zx6r. Also, the right fork oil level is 90mm fully compressed vs the left fork @ 80mm. Once again for a '15 zx6r. Passing along for the next guy. Thanks again for the video -- it helped as the manual is a little confusing.

      Does it hurt not to use the plastic bushing? I cannot find a new one for my bike, neither can my dealer! The old one was a bit messed up.

    Many thanks for the excellent video! Based on my understanding of the service manual, the oil seal seems to be installed in the wrong direction. Its stamp side needs to face outward on the outer tube, i.e., the stamp side should face down when you roll it to the inner tube.

    Thanks Tony, really helpful video. I have a 2011 GSXR750L1. Since the first day I got it I found the front end very harsh and I've seen similar comments on different online forums. Maybe they're fine for super smooth roads and tracks but on the bumpy Irish roads I ride on they're not the smoothest. I recently changed the fork seals and fork oil. The Haynes manual recommended 10 wt oil. The front was still very harsh and after speaking to a suspension specialist in the UK, he said "those forks work better with 5 wt oil". I plan to rip the forks again, replacing the guide bushes this time (they showed a little wear but not enough to change them at the time) and using 5 wt oil. Hopefully this will give a more compliant feel. I'd be very interested to hear from other riders with big piston forks, have you had a similar experience and how did you deal with them. The specialist I spoke to said "he wasn't a fan of BPF in standard form and that they responded best to a cartridge change". I don't want to spend that kind of money just now so hopefully the lighter oil and adjustment will do the trick. These are just my musings and not recommendations, I'm just a home mechanic.

    Awesome vid thanks. I had mine done at a shop and the right fork and the Ten / Com are not back to aligned like the factory like the job you did... meaning yours are straight and read perfect as sitting on the bike. Mine are almost sideways...(im not talking about the adjustmenst, but the nut/words) is it just they didn't bother to "orientate" the fork back properly when putting back in triple tree or do you think might be a bigger issue? Reference minute 11:54 in your vid you put them back straight to read straight from the bike). Thanks !!

    If I wanted to just replace the fork oil on an otherwise healthy fork, would I be able to drain the forks by simply removing the cap or would I also need to unscrew that cartridge in order to get the fluid out? Looking for a quick fluid refresh on my ZX6 not a rebuild or seal replacement. Thanks and great video.

    I want to replace the fork seals on my own Bike. I want to rebuild the special tool at 1:49 on a milling and turning maschine. Can you give me the width of the two hex and the width of drilling in this tool.

    If my forks have electronic adjustments can i work on them myself or does it require special tools beyond this video? Mine is the africa twin adventure sports 2021 and it has wires going into the forks and what looks like a solenoid on one of the forks. Thanks.

    LOL, I think it's ManualsLib as in manuals library... Also, 45mm is basically an 1 3/4" in SAE so may be easier to find that wrench/socket.

    I don't have all the tools or the technical skill to do this myself, but it's interesting to see how it's done. I have a question though, why is the left suspension different to the right one? I'm referring to the adjustment part?

      On this particular bike they made the left fork strictly a rebound and the right a conventional compression and rebound style fork. I believe it was a racing thing but seems to work well.

    Even after watching this I’m not sure about doing the forks on my 03 myself lol it has a 07 front end so I’m pretty sure those forks are Showa not KYB like the stock 03

    With big piston forks, can you just loosen the cap, tip out the old oil and fill with fresh? Thanks

      I mean I suppose you could but you’ll never get all of the old fluid out of the bottom portion of the tube and as long as the seals aren’t leaking. I’ve personally never done that
