Completely agree on that! ORAS and Emerald are the best example I can think of. Many people HATE the remakes just because of the lack of Battle Frontier, Gym Leader rematches, removing some Emerald features like the Mirage Tower or Gym teams, and being so hand holdy; but at the same time ORAS has a lot of QoL improvements (infinite TMs, Physical/Special Split, easy to check IVs and EVs) while adding some amazing features (Elite 4 rematches, Soaring, Delta Episode, Legendary Pokemon hunt, Dexnav, new Mega Evolutionm new battle types) and even improving some of the original games aspects like Secret Bases, having both bikes, having better character development, and having the Deoxys event in the game. I understand ORAS having Battle Frontier and other Emerald features would have been much better, but it alone is a great pair of games that holds itself even with the newer games. Hopefully, Gamefreak will one day make a game with every feature and giving the player more freedom instead of going one step forwards and two backwards.
Here's what I want to know: why does having QoL instead of third game content in ORAS acceptable but it's suddenly a bad thing for BDSP?
Рік тому+2
@@UncannyEXP because ORAS kept basically everything from the originals BUT still added and improved a lot of things (Every Pokemon up to that moment, new Megas, Triple/Rotation battles, unlimited TMs, new or improved characters; soaring, Delta Episode, compatibility with XY and its features like PSS, Pokemon Amie and Super Training, optional Exp. Share. Physical/Special Split) but BDSP went extremely faithful (only Gen IV Pokemon, not even regional forms or game mechanics, TMs became single use again, characters barely change; not even a Poketch back button, no "Platinum episode", only compatible with themselves, forced Exp. Share) and despite having the Grand Underground and Ramanas Park they felt more like gimmicks than features. TLDR: ORAS feels like a new game and a different experience to Emerald (and if you don't care about Battle Frontier, it's better in basically everything) whereas BDSP feels like DP in HD with some random updates and others randomly unchanged.
i really want to replay ORAS, its been a really long time since i have. from what i remember and what you've described, the games have so much additional content on top of being faithful remakes. bdsp was such a mess. i dont understand why some QOL features were added while others were disregarded, it all seemed so arbitrary
I actually think hms are a far better progression tool than people give them credit. Hoenn is the best example where each part of the world progresses naturally as a result of your ability to beat gyms rather than “oh there’s just an invisible wall or an npc” (which is also in the old games and is also a flaw there imo). I also think being able to access your pc anywhere is op, but could be a decent compromise if hms were kept so you could switch your hm slave on demand.
I've always thought that HMs should've just been retooled rather than omitted entirely, because they were very important to the actual level design of Pokemon. When they got removed, the level design got blander with each game, to the point every area was literally a hallway in Sword and Shield. To begin with, let's start with what HM brings to the world design: Metroidvania style exploration. So, let's take Kanto for example. Right at the very start in Pallet Town, you see water, but you can't do anything with it yet, you just assume that's just environmental graphics. On the way up to Pewter City and around Cerulean, you see different looking trees blocking paths that you can't quite do anything with yet. Once you do the S.S. Anne sidequest, you finally get CUT and learn that you can use it on those funny looking trees to access other areas and items, and the game even leads you back to them right after Vermillion with Diglett's Cave, so you can check out the optional areas and items. Of course it's also on the mandatory path, to get to Rock Tunnel and continue the game. But this is what's missing in the newer games; there's almost no side paths or optional areas anymore, due to the removal of HMs, so once you go through an area once, you have no reason to come back anymore. Also the envionmental puzzle solving is gone too, like the Strength puzzles in Seafoam Islands and Victory Road in Kanto. So how could they be retooled instead then, so we could get the best of both worlds with good level design, and not dealing with low-power battle moves? Allow HMs to be taught as field moves instead, and have Pokemon be able to learn any number of field moves, rather than being limited to 4. This solves the problem entirely. You still have to have certain types of mon on your team to cover all the field moves you'll need to get around, but their battle movesets don't have to be compromised in the process.
@@tamerkoh I agree with everything you said except your solution. It’s not a bad idea by any means, I think id simply prefer them to work like TMs, where you can delete and reteach as you see fit. This is however assuming a change. I don’t really get the aversion to HMs in team building. I personally find it way more fun to figure out a team that can cover my hm needs, sometimes it makes me play down a Pokémon, slightly increasing the difficulty, and therefore the fun for me. I like your idea though, and you explained the depth to the world they add far better than I did.
Just clicked but my own opinion is that they put one one-hundredth of the effort in as they have wealth, which is honestly simple tragic. I will now consume your content, thank you.
Solution: ROM Hacks. You get the graphics and maps of the older gens, with the mons and QOL improvements of later gens; plus, they are made by fans who care for the source material arguably more than GF itself. It's not great, but for now it's the best we've got. Edit: I refer mostly to QOL ROM Hacks, stuff like Renegade Platinum, Inclement Emerald, and Blaze Black/Bolt White 2 Redux.
ROM Hacks are kind of a mixed bag in my opinion, most of the time you get great rom hacks and then you get others that feel like they try too hard to have a "dark" plot. Overall I mostly prefer rom hacks that improve already existing pokemon games and add in QOL features.
Since Pokémon makes money from plushes and merchandise, I would like to know what percentage of those sales are from old pokémon and how much merchandise of the new pokémon is sold
8:20 Bro stop the cap, everyone knows how horrible diamond and pearl were and how Platinum "fixed them" and those games are like 15 years old. everyone also knows how stupidly wasted was the potential of XY and mind u, those gamese were released 10 years ago. Yall gotta stop with that "oh its the nostalgia factor" thing cuz its not Oh and if someday someone tells u they love diamond and pearl, believe me they dont, they love platinum lmao
I recently played thru shining pearl and I’ve never come so close to snapping my switch in half. But I finished the game, gave myself a pat on the back, and cried myself to sleep.
I don't think I agree that the 2D games are harder - I think that's purely just nostalgia. Just look at the E4 from Kanto or Johto and compare them to any 3D game. Half of Bruno's team is Onix, a Pokemon with 35 base attack, and Agatha's only damaging moves are Dream Eater, Wing Attack, and Bite. Compared to even Kalos, the easiest of the 3D games, where you'll have a member with a Dragon Dance/Waterfall/Earthquake/Ice Fang Gyarados. For another example, compare Johto's infamously bad gym leaders (Falkner, Bugsy, gen 2 Morty, Chuck, Jasmine) with the Totem Battles from SM, which with absolutely fuck you up if you're not overleveled from grinding. There's a reason USUM is super infamous among nuzlockers for its difficulty. I think the difference from base Diamond/Pearl and BDSP prolly shows this best: Original Aaron has basically nothing treatening at all, whereas BDSP has Flame Orb Facade Guts Heracross, Quiver Dance Beautifly, and Sniper Scope Lens Drapion. I'll agree that BW are hard games, but I think they're by far the peak of difficulty in the series and definitely just an outlier, not indicative of a broader trend.
i agree. i think what makes the new games "easier" is that the exp share is automatically turned on and makes you over leveled. if the gyms'[ pokemon were at higher levels to compensate for that, it would require more strategy to get through them w/o grinding to reach a high level. its just really hard to avoid overleveling now, you basically have to avoid every battle you can. it would also be cool if every gym didnt use one type still but thats just me hahaha
I think hms should come back but they should unlock optional areas to get like a legendary or a random item that is super helpful. Like with the seafoam island.
I'm about 2 minutes into this video and I'm shocked you only have 1.06K subs. Your channel is gonna blow up! Keep up the great content! Now then I'm gonna continue watching the video lol
The fact that the main game plot ended with the Pokemon league made me much more motivated to finish Pokemon B&W when it came out. I’d been playing since Pearl but B&W was the first time I beat one of the games. Try playing Radical Red or Inclement Emerald. The best rom hacks like those are the definitive 2D experience.
My biggest thing has always been exploring the worlds--and Pokemon games after gen 5 really didn't have cohesive feeling, fun to explore worlds. I can't quite put my finger on it--but something about the 3D games doesn't feel like I'm playing in a REGION. It feels disjointed. Like a bunch of random, disconnected towns strung together by routes of no interest. And yeah, sure, there are some QOL changes in the newer games, but I'm going to say something controversial: who cares? A lot of the things that were "fixed" weren't exactly big deals to begin with--and some of them, like being able to access your PC anywhere, make the games worse. There's a reason why I find myself replaying the first 4 gens the most, and I can guarantee it's not nostalgia, given that my childhood Pokemon games were gen 4-6.
i totally agree on the design of the newer regions. it doesn't feel like im exploring a part of the world anymore, it feels like a video game map. i dont use the pc much to begin with, so having it accessible anywhere isnt a deal breaker for me. random encounters, on the other hand, suck
Wow, only 600 views? I'm glad this got recommended to me! Great video, it was so fun to watch 😊 Oh also, Pokemon Scarlet was the most fun I had playing Pokemon in years. I went straight for the objectives, not really grinding along the way, and the battles were actually difficult and engaging for me. I could just be bad, though.
thank you! i think the games couldve been a bit more difficult, but they were the most fun i had with series in while. pokemon in the overworld is all ive ever wanted ig
While I can agree with you on certain points, S&V were one of the worse Pokemon games ever. These games were basically Dragon Age Inquisition levels of boring and empty, and while the old 2D games could be boring as all hell due to lacking certain mechanics, it still is better then the new games. I couldn't finish playing S&V because of how absolutely boring it was. I wish Nintendo would actually hire better management and actually give the devs time and money to do something with these games and not just fall to the same mindset as companies like EA, where they say "Eh. Good enough. Will make money regardless of what we pump out".
i dont think any of the games are boring to me, more so just kinda annoying or tedious at some parts. until gamefreak doesnt make a 40000% return on investment, the games are gonna be booty. hopefully im wrong tho
Gen 4 was definitely the worst in terms of those quality of life things you mentioned. I think the closest the community has come to a definitive game everyone thinks is best is Emerald, hence there being so many rom hacks built around it's format. Gen 5 is a great mix of both worlds too though.
I was considering clicking off cause i almost never watch low subscriber content cause they usually suck, but you got me hooked with this video. Nice work💅😤
One of the things ive never really agreed on, besides galar, is that the new games are to easy. in my opinion pokemons never really been hard. All of the games i have to play as challange runs cause since i was a teen i cant say pokemon games have ever felt to difficult. Not to say im some big shot gaming guru, i just never found them that difficult. its more about the experience and the pokemon for me
You're definitely not alone in feeling that Pokemon games were easy even back then. There's a reason that Drayano-style ROM Hacks have become increasingly popular over the last few years and that many agree that Renegade Platinum is one of, if not the best Pokemon games of all time, fan-made or otherwise.
i dont necessarily disagree, but i think a big part of the newer games being easier is bc youre so overleveled. i dont mind how the exp share splits the exp among your entire party, but its gotta have an off button for people who are trying to make things more difficult without having to do a special kind of run
Pokemon games were always easier but there was a things you could do to make them harder. Set mode and using worse pokemon, as well as not levelling up as much. The newer games have their balance thrown horribly off because they aren't properly balanced around the EXP all. I think the EXP all is a great addition but it's executed poorly, that's the problem with it.
@@cyankoopa8111 I'm sorry, but I've gotta call bullshit. SWSH and SV had level curves that absolutely took into account the EXP Share. Most of the time I was on the level curve almost exactly in SV, especially in the late game. And I was actually UNDERLEVELED when I faced Leon in SWSH. The issue comes from the fact that the battles themselves aren't very difficult. Not that you're more overleveled than god by default. And we know that Gamefreak can design REALLY challenging battles when they want to even with the mandatory EXP Share. Case in point: Atticus, Eri, and AI Professor Turo/Sada.
@@HunterStiles651 I had a very different experience, I was overleveled for almost every major battle- especially Leon. Area Zero might be the only time I can think of recently where I matched the levels of the enemy and I still had a few that were higher. (This is excluding Legends, that game's level scaling was a lot better..) Maybe it's not a universal problem- a lot of people use that run button, so they don't have to deal with wild battles. For me personally though that EXP share doesn't work, I don't want to have to avoid battles to have a challenge when battles are supposed to be the interesting part of the game.
Please try some of the great fan made rom hacks. You can fast forward making fights faster, new stories, new mechanics, more in-depth trainer fights what force you to actually know how to play the game.
I mean... random encounters are an integral part of JRPG. If you git tired of that mechanic or think it needs fixing, then repels where just a weird way of settings confguration 😂 That one I'll put down to personal preferences. Not being able to surf a literal combat tortoise unless teaching an HM, that was indeed a weird development choice
As someone who grew up with a nintendo ds i also grew up with Pokémon, the good ones, and i need to say i loved These games because of All the freedom(beides random encounters if you like them you are a Psychopath) Only good Memories
8:30 nope. People start to appreciate the old pokémon games when the new freshly release pokémon game is trash. So in comparison gen 5 is a master piece next to SW/SH or Scarlet and Violet. Even when gen 5 objectively sucks
Pokemon games are for normies, that’s where the money is. If you’re a Pokemon fan, play games made by Pokemon fans for Pokemon fans. Could never go back and play vanilla emerald when fan mods exist with qol features and a fast forward button.
Any thoughts on legends arceus? With everything you wanted out of a game like no random encounters,a sense of independence on travel, extremely snappy fast battles,i thought you'd immediately say legends arceus is your favorite for now since they stripped alot of what legends had in scarlet and violet.
honestly I haven't gotten the chance to play it yet hahaha. im not so sure how I feel about the battle style though. I don't necessarily hate the current turn based system, I just think there are many pauses and repetitive text boxes that can be remove
i do replay the older games platinum may be my favorite probably cus it was my second game in the series i played plus i got it around the time when i started to beat video games however i replay platinum at least every few years so i can at least say platinum good new bad
Nah, I've replayed the DS Pokémon games plenty of times and they are just great. If you find them boring it's probably a you problem from all this social media, videogames and over stimulation in general. The 3d games though, are just bad. I can excuse the ds games cause they had their charm and where unique. The 3D games are generic and have a lot of problems. If you can count SMD then that's my favourite 3d pokemon lol. I've just finished SMD this year and I don't have many complaints. When I see SwSh, Scarlet BDSP...I just feel dissappointed. Specially when I compare them to Xenoblade. It reminds me of Pokémon A LOT. Xenoblade is just perfect to me and treated with the care I wish Pokemon would get. Xenoblade is my favourite saga now, Pokémon was my childhood favourite saga. I'm currently playing Legends Arceus and I'm enjoying it but it is nowhere near close to what Pokémon used to make me feel. It's fun and I like it but I can't love it like other games. When I play with my brother watching and he asks why something doesn't work or something is ridiculous I just answer "it's Pokémon" and that's sad. On top of that, the pokemon games are just ugly nowadays, run like crap (shitty 30 fps, If they even get to 30) and are filled with bugs. That's where Xenoblade comes in to place and you might ask why so much Xenoblade??? The answer is very simple, Xenoblade makes me feel what Pokémon used to when I was a kid. That means it's not ME the problem and it's Pokemon. When I play a Xenoblade game for the first time, I can't stop, everything is SO DAMN GOOD. I absolutely love the Xenoblade games. I have 300 hours on Xenoblade 3, I play the games excited, I watch trailers excited, I watch video from people talk about Xenoblade excited. I cry about Xenoblade, I laugh about Xenoblade, I can feel sad and happy. These games bring me so many emotions. I want just that from Pokemon. But all I can get nowadays is just "yeah it's fun...for a while"

Hm's would be cool if you could delete them before the elite 4.
I will now consume your content, thank you.
no, thank you
Solution: ROM Hacks.

Bro stop the cap, everyone knows how horrible diamond and pearl were and how Platinum "fixed them" and those games are like 15 years old. everyone also knows how stupidly wasted was the potential of XY and mind u, those gamese were released 10 years ago.
Yall gotta stop with that "oh its the nostalgia factor" thing cuz its not
Oh and if someday someone tells u they love diamond and pearl, believe me they dont, they love platinum lmao
I recently played thru shining pearl and I’ve never come so close to snapping my switch in half. But I finished the game, gave myself a pat on the back, and cried myself to sleep.
This video deserves a lot of attention! Very well produced and thought out
very kind of you, i appreciate it
I don't think I agree that the 2D games are harder - I think that's purely just nostalgia.
I feel like the battling is better now, but the stories and art are better in the 2D games.
I’m just gonna say this
there’s people who think gen 2 is the best generation, and there’s other people who are wrong
The whole team rocket portion of soul silver is actually horrible lmao just endless battles against the same few Pokémon 💀
Great video, great voice, great humor. Subbed! Keep em coming!
I think hms should come back but they should unlock optional areas to get like a legendary or a random item that is super helpful. Like with the seafoam island.
I'm about 2 minutes into this video and I'm shocked you only have 1.06K subs. Your channel is gonna blow up! Keep up the great content!
Now then I'm gonna continue watching the video lol
thank you thank you, hope you enjoyed the following 8 minutes hahaha
Great video, it was so fun to watch 😊
Oh also, Pokemon Scarlet was the most fun I had playing Pokemon in years.
Nah they were average, lots better than sw/sh and a step up from x/y
I remember the 5th gen hate and now people my age changed that narrative 💀 it was definitely due to nostalgia (still my favorite)
never forget how the world ended bc vanillite was just an ice cream cone
Fun takes, agree that always going to have an affinity for the generation you started with.
That pixel bit was pretty funny
just trying to be conscious of other artform beings
I go to the fan games to scratch my pokè itch
Gen 4 was definitely the worst in terms of those quality of life things you mentioned. I think the closest the community has come to a definitive game everyone thinks is best is Emerald, hence there being so many rom hacks built around it's format. Gen 5 is a great mix of both worlds too though.
The editing was awesome and the jokes were great
I was considering clicking off cause i almost never watch low subscriber content cause they usually suck, but you got me hooked with this video. Nice work💅😤
thats a new one, thanks tho dog
And that's why I play fan games, they usually have the best from both worlds.
(This is excluding Legends, that game's level scaling was a lot better..)
Maybe it's not a universal problem- a lot of people use that run button, so they don't have to deal with wild battles. For me personally though that EXP share doesn't work, I don't want to have to avoid battles to have a challenge when battles are supposed to be the interesting part of the game.
Congratulations! This video is about to blow up!
Please try some of the great fan made rom hacks. You can fast forward making fights faster, new stories, new mechanics, more in-depth trainer fights what force you to actually know how to play the game.
i really need to, do you have any recs that still feel like a "normal" pokemon game?
I mean... random encounters are an integral part of JRPG.
If you git tired of that mechanic or think it needs fixing, then repels where just a weird way of settings confguration 😂
That one I'll put down to personal preferences.
Not being able to surf a literal combat tortoise unless teaching an HM, that was indeed a weird development choice
2:40 if youre talking gen 5, sure. But s/m's story clears anything from gen 1-4 cmon mqn
As someone who grew up with a nintendo ds i also grew up with Pokémon, the good ones, and i need to say i loved These games because of All the freedom(beides random encounters if you like them you are a Psychopath)
Only good Memories
to the four fans of random encounters: get help
Loved this video! Subbed up!
Emerald, Platinum, ORAS, Arceus
9:35 fin.
8:30 nope. People start to appreciate the old pokémon games when the new freshly release pokémon game is trash. So in comparison gen 5 is a master piece next to SW/SH or Scarlet and Violet. Even when gen 5 objectively sucks
The old games are really good but I can not play them without an emulator at 4X speed, I hate random encounters so much.
#endrandomencounters
I saw the word boba.
unsee it.
I think my favorites are sapphire, ruby and emerald. Any one else?
Great video, man!
thank you tyler
I agree
I love your passion for pokemon lol wholesome wf
i do replay the older games platinum may be my favorite probably cus it was my second game in the series i played plus i got it around the time when i started to beat video games however i replay platinum at least every few years so i can at least say platinum good new bad
I will sacrifice this comment for the UA-cam algorithm
your offer is appreciated
But all I can get nowadays is just "yeah it's fun...for a while"
"I'm gonna show you Typhosion, you're gonna clap for my bravery and we can just move on" this aged like cursed wine 🍷 💀
YUP
Nice
If you want to play the older games with all of the quality if life than just play pokeMMO
i will check this out
clickbait title??? these arent real problems these are just your tastes
They're his tastes, yes, but most his opinions are shared by the majority of Pokemon fans, so calling it *the* Pokemon dilemma isn't really incorrect.
@@infinitesimalphilip1470 Wrong. its shared by a vocal minority online. sales data vs what is said proves this.
