gen 5 music might be mostly all amazing but you gotta give village bridge best town music (maybe town in genral too) and the way you can add to the music by interacting with the town members so amazing
In Hoehn the worst city should be Ever Grande City. Makes you think is gonna be this GRAND place with all sorts of things and stuff... but is just some pillars and the league. If anything, Wyndon feels like what Ever Grande should have been. (Music is even similar!) Then again, you could also say the battle frontier is what ever grande could have been
The fact that ever grande is classed as a city is really weird. It was never “indigo city” in the first two gens because they knew it was just the Pokémon league
I feel like Medali is a pretty good contender in Paldea. It has the only gym battle that takes place in a unique location, the Treasure Eatery. Plus, if you fight online, you've got pretty good reason to go back there in order to change a pokemon's tera type
Only problem: aside from the Treasure Eatery, there's no reason to ever go there. No Delibird Presents (battle items), no Chansey Supply (vitamins/mints), and too many restaurants to actually decide what Food Powers to use (Yes, I know picnics, but still).
For coumarine city, you claim to see an area that is unexplorable. The area you see from the distance, is the area you came from first, rotated 90 degress so that the game could have explanation for its route and city design while working with a fixed camera.
Eterna I think is my favorite in Sinnoh, it has a bangin song and you get so much stuff to do in it! From the gym to the bike shop to the underground man to the team galactic building, the game really opens up once you reach Eterna. Plus it’s steeped in the region’s story and history
I genuinely had to google search the city names during the quiz you’re given before the elite 4 because genuinely nothing is memorable about Paldeas cities
There are like 4 important cities in the whole game. The one with the daily rotation market, the one with the restaurant terra dish, the one in the mountains where you hyper train your monsters and Mesagoza with the Delibird shops / plot relevance
Really surprised to not see Hearthome mentioned, my favourite Sinnoh Town! I love how cozy the town feels and there is a lot to do there with the contest hall and taking Pokémon on walk, a gym and you can cook the Poké sweets (forgot their English name). I spent sooo much time there in my first playthrough.
My favorite city in all of Pokemon is Virbank City, and this is mainly just because of how sentimental it is to me. Pittsburgh is the city I grew up in (and still reside to this day), and Virbank reminds me of so many areas in Pittsburgh that it just feels so nostalgic to me.
I'd personally say circhester is the best town in SwSh, but that partially cuz of the vibes, but there's also some things to explore like the hotel rooms.
its funny you mention wanting greece as a pokemon region one day because the gigaleak has revealed a LOT that points to gen 10 being set in a greece inspired region!!
@@Volkaroar And it isn't even made like any other town there, it's literally just an elevator and a straight path, has no healing or purchasing options, serves more like a battle location than anything else, and is a "city" just because that's what the design was meant to be Tho i absolutely hope for it to be developed in any Alola legends game, don't get me wrong i too got disappointed when i saw how bare bones it is
They really dropped the ball in the last 2 gens huh... At least SwSh's cities were pretty (if empty), but SV's are just disgraceful. Like the footage you showed of the Charcadet town made me think "ew"
I get the reason for it, because there's very few loading zones, but like...come on. Surely since it's on the switch, it could've even bigger. Also the only differences between them is the Delibird Presents stock The only loading zones I can think of is going into buildings, going to the DLC areas, going into Area Zero, using the games equivalent of fly, going to your classes, going between rooms in the two schools, and doing rematch tournaments
Viridian City’s anime music slapped tho, probably the most memorable song in the series lol “I’m on the roooadd, to BE-come the greatest trainerr” 🗣️🎙️
Considering that the Lake of Rage was meant to be its own town in the beta, I can’t help but feel that they should’ve merged the scrapped Town of Rage and Mahogany town. Anyways, I’m a fan of how New Bark Town led into Kanto and it’d be cool if they did it again in a future game but up to eleven. Like having your starting town feature the Pokemon League Reception Gate which leads into Victory Road. So that whenever you go back, you are reminded of what you’re aiming to do. Hell it’d be cool if Victory Road had the starters present as wild Pokemon since it’d help sell the fact that they’re native to the region and you’d have a full team by the time you get there.
I think that the scrapped lake rage town was indeed supposed to be Mahogany, but then they split the two locations and moved the town south. But yes, I agree, the original plan would have made both the location better. 😢
A friend of mine went on a trip to Japan recently including Osaka and Kyoto so after he got back we had a conversation about how well places in GSC like Goldenrod and Ecruteak translated the key details. Talking about it sounded like they did a great job. Also agreed that Unova had some amazing cities and towns. It's hard to pick a favorite because they all feel so good? It's almost like some of them feel like subdistricts of a larger metropolis, which... feels pretty fitting, all things considered
Viridian City was my place as a kid! Mostly because when I got a copy of Red, I was too young to speak English yet (being Dutch). I never passed Viridian Forest, so I was always walking around there. Though the music is unfortunately used in more places, it will always feel like my childhood tune. When I eventually passed the forest to Pewter and on, Viridian always felt like home.
The only city name from Paldea I actually remember is Mesagoza. Partially because it's the main city, but mainly because it sounds like Jar Jar named it
Hearing you pronounce "Phenac City" finally connected the dots. I knew the region was based on Arizona, but I always pronounced it like the fox. Thanks for making Orre even more awesome to me.
The cities in Paldea feel so half baked (mostly because they were) I don't know every single town and city in Pokemon but the fact I struggle to remember one here isn't great. They're all just gym locations of varying sizes but they have the same problem of being boring and laggy.
Black City in Pokémon Black is so bad with people leaving very quickly there and the only exclusive reward for keeping them around is a bunch of expensive items that you can buy my cheaply in other cities
I live in Honolulu and sun and moon came out when I was a kiddo, so IMAGINE MY GLEE when I realized they basically turned my home city straight into pokemon. Little me was downright giddy lol
Actually, you do have access to the whole Coumarine city. The part you can see from afar in the upper part is actually the harbor, at the other end of the monorail (just rotated). And between the two, there seems to only be plains, trees and cliffs. I also kinda like the idea that the upper part of Coumarine and Route 13 is rotated compared to the rest of the region
I love Heahea town! I love the touristic atmosphere and the vibes. Konikoni on the other hand feels like it should have been so much more, it's beautiful but feels like it should be bigger.
I understand why they couldn’t allow you to enter every building in Paldea but it still disappoints me to this day that there’s not much to do in all of those Towns and Cities aside from buying stuff or doing Gyms (well, there’s Mesagoza that has classes at the Academy which is optional if you’re into that sort of thing for the rewards)
Cascarrafa was perhaps one of my least favorite towns in Scarlet/Violet. It ran so poorly on my system. The elevators were just unnecessary and took sooooo long. That said, I can’t think of a city I actually liked in those games
The ragecandybar guy. I had completely forgotten about him because after my first playthrough, I never interacted with him again. But now I remember him. The guy blocking the path forward and pushing you to buy what is essentially a Potion, at the point in the game where that amount of healing is effectively worthless. If anybody deserved a Hyper Beam from Lance's Dragonite...
Personally for paldea my favorite is levenica iono’s town that one feels like an cool big city :the music , the billboards, the cool little alleyways, and the actual good clothing shops especially after the dlc , it’s definitely the town i spent the most time in and is my favorite to just experience i like that it’s near a lighthouse and beach
There is something else to do in Cascarafa. It has one of the three Delibird Gift branches; so is where you obtain a large chunk of held items; includeing Leftovers!
the part of Coumarine visible in the distance is the first half of the city. you can see the port where you buy incenses and even the monorail station you take to reach that vantage point
agreed about snowpoint city. such a trek to get there, such a disappointment. maybe it's a realistic town, but for our first pokemon snow town i was hoping for something more quaint, cozy and jolly, like snowbelle or montenevera
I know i think this is the first time i actually watched one of your vids IN the morning. Well the sun ain't up yet, but AM hours regardless. So good morning lol
Aspertia city was actually my favorite city in BW2 solely because I love the idea of starting in a place that ACTUALLY feels like people live there. We don’t live in a town with three houses and nothing else, instead we live in an actual city with a Pokemon Center and a Gym!
15:41 I mean we do have Stonjourner in Galar, a pokemon based off the Stonehenge rocks, so that COULD be why there's no proper Stonehenge in the city, because they instead made the reference to Stonehenge into its own Pokemon.
The craziest thing about Snowpoint City is that they try to make it look like it’s somewhat big by having all the boats and construction stuff at the port, but then it’s like the gym, them temple, and two houses or something… It just doesn’t work…
I really dont care what people say, but Levincia is probably my favorite in the Whole Series, and it's mostly because of the music, it's the go to place where i surprise trade, participate in Tera Raids, walk around with my Pokemon, and the Billboards! I honestly never get tired of it
Worst city in Kalos is Lumiose City. That camera and the controls... its just horrific. It just makes me dread having to navigate the place, and makes it impossible to enjoy any of the good ideas there.
Couriway town has always stood out to me possibly due to the water/waterfalls theme. Felt very unique compared to the rest of the region. Only If it had its own unique theme. Also: Verdanturf/Fallarbor 2028
I agree that Celadon is easily the best city in Kanto. I remember every time I played Red/Blue/Yellow as a kid I would actively look forward to getting to Celadon. Not only does the world literally start opening up to you when you get there, but the access to the department store, the Eevee, the Game Corner, and a little later one of the Snorlax and the HM for Fly just outside the city, really makes you feel like you’re not a weak beginner trainer anymore.
Wait, what do you mean with Coumarine City? The area you look down upon from the monorail is just is just the area that you get ON the monorail from, but rotated 90 degrees. Seriously, go to the bottom part of the city and check out that layout, then compare it to the one you see there, it’s identical. In fact, I actually didn’t even know you could look down on it like that until now. That actually makes it stand out a lot more for me.
Maybe it because I was born and lived in snowy areas my entire life, but I don't hate Snowpoint City. The quiet atmosphere reminds me a lot of a winter morning when it's just snowed and no cars are out and about. The city is in the shape of a snowflake and aside from one resident here, I have no reason to hate it or call it the worst. I think the worst is honestly Solaceon Town. It's a pretty generic rest stop of a town. The only thing of note is the daycare and ruins and that's not saying much. I wouldn't blame someone if they just popped in the Pokemon Center and went on their way. And while I will say Canalave City is solid, Sunnyshore City is just so much better. It has a big Munchlax Rock, a Lighthouse, a Marketplace, walkways that double as renewable energy, what's not to love?
As a sword/shield fan, i personally think that Spikemuth is worse, its LITTERALLY JUST A MARNIE FIGHT AND A GYM BATTLE (I agree that Turfield is dissapointing for example: there's an inaccessable flower shop that seems very nice ) Also great vid!
7:29 I'm tempted to, but you gave Celadon City the dues it deserves, so I'll leave the wood uncrossed. It's got everything. Healing items, compulsive gambling, evolution stones, TMs, compulsive gambling...
Another knock on Dewford, no Pokémart. Another reason to move the Dewford gym to Slateport, the beach is perfect for catching waves and playing into Brawly’s surfer persona.
I think the most forgettable town in Unova is actually one you may have forgotten. Off of route 14 (I think) South of Undella Town, you can make your way to a small area called Distant Village. The only function of the area is to find Landorus (and get a bit of lore on it) after getting both other genies… and that’s ONLY in Black and White, not in the sequels. While the area is cool because you have to go out of your way to get there, there’s really not much reason to… I think Mistralton outclasses it any day. Also, the music in Mistralton is awesome.
One thing I really like about Paldean cities is just how Spanish they are in architecture. For a region based off of the Iberian peninsula, it doesn’t feel especially Iberian with its Pokémon designs. At least compared to alola and galar. So it’s nice to see the cities at least feel partially Spanish and Portuguese
Fuchsia has the safari zone which is cool but I don’t like navigating the city. The gym is right next to the Pokémon centre but you have to go all the way around
Yeah, Turrfield has to be the weaker city in imo. Postwick, despite its size is quaint and the theme gives it that small town vibe, and given Spikemuth doesn’t have a Dynamax station, it makes sense that it seems more run down compared to Wyndon or Hammerlock.
I love Snowpoint lol. The atmosphere feels unmatched. One of my favs across the series. I'd say the worst in Sinnoh is probably Pastoria. It just feels a bit bland and the Great Marsh with its mud don't really make up for it.
The fact you can't enter Paldean buildings kinda sucks
It definitely affects the memorability of the areas. But it _does_ turn out that there are models for building interiors with interactable NPC's from data dumps, so it was likely planned, but scrapped due to scheduling prioritization.
Not kinda, it does suck

Eterna I think is my favorite in Sinnoh, it has a bangin song and you get so much stuff to do in it! From the gym to the bike shop to the underground man to the team galactic building, the game really opens up once you reach Eterna. Plus it’s steeped in the region’s story and history
I don't even know a single town from Paldea because of how forgettable they are.
I genuinely had to google search the city names during the quiz you’re given before the elite 4 because genuinely nothing is memorable about Paldeas cities
I mostly visit Larry's and Iono's city do to the soundtrack of their cities but yeah...
The real life Stonehenge was also an ancient burial ground so that could potentially be why they didn't do much with it in the games
its funny you mention wanting greece as a pokemon region one day because the gigaleak has revealed a LOT that points to gen 10 being set in a greece inspired region!!
Dear JPR,
your videos bring me joy and your intro always puts a smile on my face
Glad you enjoy them!
The Snowpoint slander will NOT go unaccounted for.
I have to disagree with you on the worst Alola town. It’s obviously Megalopolis.
Technically, that isn't even in the Alola region. It's an otherworldly city.
@@Volkaroar And it isn't even made like any other town there, it's literally just an elevator and a straight path, has no healing or purchasing options, serves more like a battle location than anything else, and is a "city" just because that's what the design was meant to be
Tho i absolutely hope for it to be developed in any Alola legends game, don't get me wrong i too got disappointed when i saw how bare bones it is
They really dropped the ball in the last 2 gens huh... At least SwSh's cities were pretty (if empty), but SV's are just disgraceful. Like the footage you showed of the Charcadet town made me think "ew"
I get the reason for it, because there's very few loading zones, but like...come on. Surely since it's on the switch, it could've even bigger. Also the only differences between them is the Delibird Presents stock
The only loading zones I can think of is going into buildings, going to the DLC areas, going into Area Zero, using the games equivalent of fly, going to your classes, going between rooms in the two schools, and doing rematch tournaments
always loved the artstyle in the unova games
Viridian City’s anime music slapped tho, probably the most memorable song in the series lol “I’m on the roooadd, to BE-come the greatest trainerr” 🗣️🎙️
I gave you a like for the music... The music in Pokemon is iconic, plus your background music hits hard 🤩
Partially because it's the main city, but mainly because it sounds like Jar Jar named it
Doesn't Zapapico also have that outdoor battle arena that's just... Never used?? I feel like it was supposed to have more plot!!
Yeah it's not even a versus battle arena option!
Is there a town without a battle arena in Paldea?
@@cassowary1817 In Medali you just fight Nemona in the middle of the street
0:30 - 0:37 I have to admit, I was here for you to roast Cherrygrove City, Oldale Town, and Ever Grande """City""".
A new JPR video after sauna has become a weekly routine for me. What a nice way to spend my evening, so thanks for that!
That nimbasa theme goes SO hard
Hearing you pronounce "Phenac City" finally connected the dots. I knew the region was based on Arizona, but I always pronounced it like the fox.
Thanks for making Orre even more awesome to me.
The cities in Paldea feel so half baked (mostly because they were) I don't know every single town and city in Pokemon but the fact I struggle to remember one here isn't great. They're all just gym locations of varying sizes but they have the same problem of being boring and laggy.
Paldea Town and city is like that one scene in Drake and Josh on the tree house but outside
Black City in Pokémon Black is so bad with people leaving very quickly there and the only exclusive reward for keeping them around is a bunch of expensive items that you can buy my cheaply in other cities
I'm glad you said what you said about Verdanturf. It's definitely the place in the Pokemon world I would live in. I also just love Ecruteak City!
I live in Honolulu and sun and moon came out when I was a kiddo, so IMAGINE MY GLEE when I realized they basically turned my home city straight into pokemon. Little me was downright giddy lol
This is the beautiful dream that fakemon regions run on.
6:19 do NOT pass this guy the Aux😭🙏
Actually, you do have access to the whole Coumarine city. The part you can see from afar in the upper part is actually the harbor, at the other end of the monorail (just rotated). And between the two, there seems to only be plains, trees and cliffs.
I also kinda like the idea that the upper part of Coumarine and Route 13 is rotated compared to the rest of the region
My fave town in Sinnoh is Eterna. I love the layout and bah gawd the theme is FIRE!
Dawg evergrande city is right there💀
You NEED to do a video going over the best and worst music in every region with honorable mentions for each region
The Harmonica in the second town in Galar is fire.
6:38 Dang. Kid Icarus can’t catch a break.
Cascarrafa was perhaps one of my least favorite towns in Scarlet/Violet. It ran so poorly on my system. The elevators were just unnecessary and took sooooo long. That said, I can’t think of a city I actually liked in those games
It’s actually scary, I agree with all the picks except for one gen - Galar. You’ve done well!
Sunnyshore is really unique and totally gives summer vibes and has great music
Def one of my fav cities
I don’t think Snowpoint is that bad though. I wouldn’t say any town in Sinnoh is bad but if I had to pick one it would probably be Solaceon Town
agreed about snowpoint city. such a trek to get there, such a disappointment. maybe it's a realistic town, but for our first pokemon snow town i was hoping for something more quaint, cozy and jolly, like snowbelle or montenevera
I like how in scarlet and violet they made it to where even the pokemart and pokemon center were both just outside.
How do you hate Snowpoint city theme!!! It's a beautiful tune
I will not stand for the Snowpoint City slander.
That music slaps.
The craziest thing about Snowpoint City is that they try to make it look like it’s somewhat big by having all the boats and construction stuff at the port, but then it’s like the gym, them temple, and two houses or something… It just doesn’t work…
Dewford is just a generic-brand Cianwood
It is actually base on the real life Tsushima by the way
I really dont care what people say, but Levincia is probably my favorite in the Whole Series, and it's mostly because of the music, it's the go to place where i surprise trade, participate in Tera Raids, walk around with my Pokemon, and the Billboards! I honestly never get tired of it
Worst city in Kalos is Lumiose City. That camera and the controls... its just horrific. It just makes me dread having to navigate the place, and makes it impossible to enjoy any of the good ideas there.
5pm on a Friday leaving work hearing "good morning everybody, goooood morning!"
I actually agree with all of these. Except I like Mahogany Town more than Blackthorn City and would put Blackthorn as my least favorite.
Dewford town phrases has to do with the feabass makes it easier to catch. See some tutorials.
As a sword/shield fan, i personally think that Spikemuth is worse, its LITTERALLY JUST A MARNIE FIGHT AND A GYM BATTLE (I agree that Turfield is dissapointing for example: there's an inaccessable flower shop that seems very nice )
Also great vid!
Someone's out here fundamentally misunderstanding the fascination with Stonehenge.
7:29 I'm tempted to, but you gave Celadon City the dues it deserves, so I'll leave the wood uncrossed.
It's got everything. Healing items, compulsive gambling, evolution stones, TMs, compulsive gambling...
8:56 IS THAT CARMEN SANDIEGO!?
As for someone who loves the cold and snow, I would love to live in Snowpoint City. Just catch a fire type and flying type Pokemon and I'm good 😊
mahogany town in a Legends game would slap as a concept, especially if there actually ARE ninjas in it
Another knock on Dewford, no Pokémart.
My favorite in ladles was the one with iono’s gym the music the location and the lighting were perfet
Wake up babe,JPR dropped❤
Just waiting for one day where he says “Good Afternoon” or “Good Evening”
