how come even when i tried making one with lemon juice, mine still crystallized? 😕🤔
Hi. brush the sides of the pan while bringing the syrup to a simmer to prevent the caramel from crystallizing.

He Gemma congrats on your baby. I made my syrup but I used brown sugar. It really came out lovely and I think because it's already brown half the work achieving that lovely golden colour is already done 😁 thanks for the lovely recipes.

This is similar to the golden syrup for mooncake. I usually make 5 kg of sugar and use it for three years. 👍
Wonderful. I love Golden Syrup but it's almost unobtainable here in Switzerland. Now I can make things we used to have in England with Golden Syrup that were impossible previously.

I wish I had that recipe when I had a stove!. Reside in assisted living... Microwave and a toaster oven are my "cookers".. you are my go to when I want a Mic recipe! Will be trying the crumpets as I do have a small electric griddle..

Thank you for your kind words. You can store this in a jar at room temperature for at least 8 weeks. It can really last for a long time, just like honey, corn syrup, or maple syrup.

I can confirm that the syrup needs to be somewhat runny before pouring into jars, I left mine a little too long so when it cooled down it was harder than I'd like. 🤦♀️🤭 Fortunately using a spoon that I've steeped in boiling water solved the issue of getting it out but at least I know for next time. We live and learn. 😂

You can use the lemon / orange peel instead of the juice, it will firm the same way and be only sweet (and not sour).

Hi can you use raw sugar in this recipe & your condensed milk recipe as we don’t normally use white sugar?

Cheerio It is better than corn syrup. You can add some vanilla flavor at the end for just several minutes and it give it an awesome flavor to use as maple syrup substitute. too

I know you made your own extracts, like mint and vanilla. I'm wondering if it would be possible to make things like onion powder or garlic powder. I see videos for doing it in a dehydrator, but I don't have one of those.

Gemma do you have a recipe for crunchy Anzac biscuits? One of the key ingredients is golden syrup and whenever I make them they always come out soft.

I made this a few weeks ago from a similar recipe it turned out ok but didn’t quite have the taste of the original syrup ,I poured it into a plastic syrup bottle and poured the leftovers into two tiny glass bottles .We we’re using the large bottle but the syrup started turning white ,the glass bottles still stayed amber .I kept it all in the fridge, but wondered why the one turned white when the others didn’t ,I stood the bottle in hot water, the syrup turned sort of a milky amber ,by then we didn’t want to chance it so I threw it out ,Could it be the plastic that made it change?
It could be because of its exposure from opening it each time it's used. It can be due to outside temperature, which may affect the content of the bottle or the material of the container, or any microbial activity it gets each time it's exposed. Or it could just be that some of the sugar in it has crystallized.
What does the taste compare to?

Hi. Golden syrup is a very popular baking ingredient in Ireland. We use it in cookies, steamed sponge puddings, and also it’s a key ingredient when making Homemade Honeycomb. It’s a thick, caramel-colored syrup and often used in recipes where you would use corn syrup.
