Amazing conversation ! I agree with what Mark says once you have the realisation of what you are dealing with it is very destabilising, your sense of self your beliefs, everything has been compromised , trying to find your way back is absolutely exhausting .Thank you Both❤
IS THAT MARK? From the nexium documentary? He looks like a totally different person! Clear, healthy, so happy for you Mark you look great! Wishing you all the best in continued healing.
OMG that nexium bloke raniery or whatever was such a total fekkhead - unbelievable but so predictable with the moral Everesting up front. People can be so so so gullible when they think they're doing "the right thing"
Love this! I was drawn into a minor cult by someone who started off as my mental health therapist. To cut a long story, the mental health therapist by his own omission was BPD but post-analysis a clinical psychologist pointed out to me the therapist was actually NPD. I ended up reporting the therapist to the Health Complaints Commissioner. The therapist got disciplinary action and then allowed to continue on with his behaviour. Unfortunately I am Australian, as was the therapist, and the cult was US based so I am limited in what I can do in tackling the problem with them. I am pretty sure most of the 'Senior Facilitators' would be found to be Cluster B if diagnosed. It's taken almost 5 years to get to the point where I am thinking it's not really my problem to protect others from falling into their allure. Also like ' A toxic relationship is when you are afraid to say what you need to' or whatever it was exactly
I had a therapy session dedicated to discussing my reactions to watching "Holy Hell" as I was going NC with my family of origin. The pattern spotting thing is key in breaking free.
Great interview. I really liked the acknowledgement in the discussion about the need these people have for collusion. I saw this in relation to my early life as a need for a monomorphic unified group identity around them and their beliefs about themselves, so this might be why some families effectively function as little cults. Yes, that was Popper: it's also a theme that both Poverty Of Historicism and the Open Society and It's Enemies two volumes carry.

OK, DARREN! I want to talk to You about your various comments regarding aging. #1, You are more handsome than any man I have known in the last 13 years! You have a truly lovely Irish accent I can't get enough of and an easy, quirky sense of humor, and from what I can see and hear, You're a humble, kind and caring man. I was already thinking about writing this comment to you before I heard you mention, right off the bat, how you haven't aged a day. Here's my 2 cents: Update your photo that comes up on your Channel, because you are ❤ MORE handsome now than you were in the present photo you're using.😍 The silver only compliments your beautiful skin. Do it! You shine!😉

it is difficult for me to understand how anybody could fall for this kind of deception. I'm not judging, simply I do not get it. what is it that makes anyone believe these people? I've met gurus and leaders, I search for answers in my life, but what brings people to give up their better judgement? this interview doesn't really answer this question.
most of us were raised in fundamentally unhealthy families, or we had some kind of trauma that makes dissociating or magical thinking an easy button for toxic systems to short circuit. a single trauma, or even moderate religion can prime a person to switch off rational thinking
I’ve wondered that myself, as well… but, he’s likely just somewhat bitter about the paranoia that ensues us all when we’ve been conditioned or ‘entrained’ by such people or organizations over time. Understandably so, it (brainwashing/trauma bonding, etc) can happen to literally anyone. 😙

narcissism is a spectrum, not a species. everyone has shades of it but it only becomes pathological in some people, usually because of compounded traumas and deficits in the self. HealNPD is a super useful channel for actually understanding it beyond the idiotic DSM5
I think this is an interesting conversation. What I find confounding is that Mark thinks Biden supporters are cult-like, but he makes no mention of trump and his supporters. 🤔 Many cult experts speak about the "cult of trump". I'm not aware of any scholars or experts who think Biden is a cult-like leader. How puzzling. Perhaps the traits Mark has that allowed him to put on blinders and fall into a cult trap are still there?
I have to believe the reference was simply to Bidin being too old and everyone being in denial about it until he backed Harris. the evidence was there but wr all needed to believe in something because the alternayive was so orange
I don’t think Mark has blinders at all. Media bias and so called “cult experts” are all part of the smear campaign against Trump supporters. It’s easier to devalue the concerns of Trump supporters by dismissing them as ignorant, racist rednecks than to admit that Biden and his administration have some serious issues. I’m not American or a Trump supporter by the way.
That’s because Trump is outside of what would be the cult on the right. You may have noticed that he is as hated by the conservative political establishment as he is by the Democrats. And he has teamed up with another person who is outside of the cult: RFK Jr.. It is the hope of Trump supporters that an administration fashioned from outsiders will take down the cult structures that have developed on both sides. And then we rebuild-together. My family for generations has been largely Democrat, and today’s Democrat party has been completely taken over. It bears no resemblance to what it was 60 years ago.
