Fabulous! I was about 17 when this came out and my life changed forever. After all that prog rock this snarling, spitting fury was just what we needed in '70s Britain......!!
I know you love Cream Todd, did you know that Rat Scabies was a roadie for Ginger Baker a few years ago. He said it was priceless to be up close to the Master. Yep, The Damned were so brilliant. Robert Plant said he wore his first copy of New Rose out after a few weeks as he couldn't get enough. What an album Damned Damned Damned is. So is Music For Pleasure, although the band hated the production, then came more classic albums.
I pogo'd alongside Dave Vanian at a Doctors of Madness gig at the Marquee. There may have been some gobbing involved but everyone was gobbed at in those days.
Hi Steve ... Very cool. I can picture everyone bouncing up and down. Is that like "Gobbing For Life" by Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias? Rock on ... 😎🎸✌
Oh man, I was 12 years old when this came out but instantly knew it was the way for me. Love the Damned and as you say it just hammers all the way through. Try 'Neat, Neat, Neat' and 'Love Song' by them next
Hi Richard ... both Neat, Neat, Neat and Love Song are great songs by The Damned. Have you heard the live version of Neat, Neat, Neat by Elvis Costello? Rock on ... 😎🎸✌
It took me a long time to get into them and I don't know why. I wasn't even a fan when my band supported them on the 'Grave Distortion' tour. I think they're awesome now. Weird, eh?
US proto-punk bands were released in 1969, both from Metro Detroit in Michigan; Detroit's MC5 released Kick Out the Jams in January, and the Stooges, from Ann Arbor, premiered with their self-titled album in August.
WOW didn't know that the Damned was the FIRST - at least in the UK, have loved their Music for ever! I think they have been jamming for about as long (or close to) as the Stones -- who I've never liked, but my next fav is "X", DI, DK, Black Flag, and many others to skate to. To relax to, Roxy Music, Morrissy, etc.....
What a great reaction, you're obviously well versed with their oeuvre, but I have a fondness for 'nasty'. Obviously I am late to the party - but great stuff!
Thanks so much for reacting to The Damned. So here is the question, will you be the first person on UA-cam to react to Curtain Call by the Damned? If you want some money for doing it then my pockets are open! (Album version of course)
Hi MrsMillwall ... Nice to see you back. Was missing your comments. Hope all is now well with you. The Damned and T-Rex; what a combination! Take care and keep rockin' ... 😎🎸✌
Man, you have such eclectic tastes much more so than mine. I hated this when it was released and still do but hey ho each to their own. Keep on truckin Todd.
Hi Speed ... I'm not a fan of the Sex Pistols and have a hard time listening to them, but love The Damned. They are more approachable and appear to have more talent. Thank you for watching a band you don't care for. Keep rockin' my friend ... 😎🎸✌
Come on man, it was murder watching your video!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you know what a long a is??? Get hooked on Phonics man!!! It's pronounced Scay-bies & Vay-nian!!!!!!! You're killing me!!!!!!! You've got 15 yrs on me you should know this!!!
Its pronounced veinian and scabies is pronounced with a long a. . Their style has evolved over the years and they have so so so many fan favorites. I wish they had done more videos. Their performance of Nasty on the young ones tv show was my 1st exposure to them and it was love at 1st site.
The Captain (Ray Burns) was stil in the Damned after Brian left, he moved over to lead, and Lemmy stepped in on Bass to record the tracks for 'The Doomed'Motordamn' colaboration and a handful of live shows, Lemmy was then replaced by Henry Badowski for a shor period, before Algy Ward stepped in on Bass for Machin Gun Etiquette

Me too, 16. Happy days.
Stranded by the Oz band The Saints was the first Punk single but the Damn's was the first from a UK band
Gives me goosebumps every time.
I love the whole album and have listened to it frequently since its release, its a real shot of adrenaline that you never bore of.
The Damned were also the first to tour the US. They were actually in the audience during one of the first times the Germs hit the stage.

Not gonna mention lemmy kilmister played base in the damned when sensible did his solo stint ?

There 3rd album Machine Gun Etiquette is also a classic
