When you're reeling in a fish in the surf, back up towards the dryer sand, don't horse him, let it run unless a seal is nearby, and use the waves to your advantage the shallower the fish gets. Backing up allows the fish to get to the sand without being spooked from seeing you, thus making a last dash against the wave and resulting in you losing a fish. Hope this make sense.
So grateful to share the water with you brotha, truly a privilege. Positive vibes all day and new friends that I feel like I’ve known much longer. Thank you thank you 🙏. Can’t wait to see the next one 😉!!!

When I was a teenager in the mid 1970's I caught a 5 lb. Yellowfin Croaker in the surf at San Onofre on 6 lb. test with live sand crab for bait. Let them run as the wave pulls out and work them in as the wave pushes in. Very memorable fight. Unfortunately that was my last surf fishing experience.
