California Corbina AKA king croaker, corbie, bean
Scientific name: Menticirrhus undulatus
Fun facts: the California corbina are found from Point of conception southward off California coast to depths up to 45 ft. These corbinas travel along the bottom of sandy beaches and shallow bays. Corbinas spawn through the months of June to September , and sand crabs are one of their favorite diets.

Great video man, thanks! Those beans really fight! Caught a 20 in her a couple years ago and gave me 3 LONG runs, usually you get one good run, and then the following runs have a little less to them, but this guy gave me three runs that were each like a first run for most other sport fish.

1st beach...The Strand?? 2nd beach...Torrey Pines?? Haven't been out since the lockdown, nice seeing the surf fishing is open again, making plans right now, next day or two. Fingers corssed for a hali, (bucket list!)

Got my first corbina in Carlsbad 2 days ago. Super light set up and sight fished him. Took about 1 hr to hook up but we’ll worth it. Now I can’t stop thinking about corbina fishing!

Thanks for explaining things. I did some surf fishing today and my setup was close to yours. Used the sand crabs. Caught 1 small corbina. I was getting hit all day though. I like to hook my sand crabs on the opposite end of where the eggs are. Get really orange ones and break the shell around the eggs so it's very visible. Great video though and beautiful corbina. Subscribed.

I heard that you out fished everybody that day... Of course! You are THE RODNEY! Great video BTW. I can't fish less than 10lb test line. My method is cast far out and very slowly reel it into the surf. I believe they get spooked by the weight/line landing near them.

Wow! Thanks for the info! I’m new to saltwater fishing and did not know you could use ultra light gear. I thought you had to have big tall rods to fish saltwater. I have an ultra light rod and reel but mine is 5’6. Would I be able to fish that or would I need a longer rod like yours? Awesome video

Hi Rodney, i really appreciate your videos as someone who has recently got into fishing. I live in Orange County area and have mostly gone fishing on piers. Its been fun but I wanted to step up my game and try something new. I recently bought a kayak and wanted to try kayak fishing in San Diego like how you did in your previous videos. Do you have any recommendations on places to try out? Thanks again!
Thank you! Pier fishing can be super fun, but I do feel like exploring outside the pier fishing scene has a lot of benefits. For kayak fishing, you allow yourself to be anywhere you are capable of pedaling to. I would recommend fishing near structure, docks, coves, etc. Always try to think : " If I was a fish, where would I want to be?"

I would love to take you and 2 people of your choosing out for a day of fishing on the Hobies. We can do anything from fish the bay.... or tie up to the kelp beds.... or head out in to the surf at La jolla and go for yellowtail. Keep up the good work my man. Hope to hear from you bro!

Gunna go to dog beach area and walk south today at about 6pm. Tide coming in around then. I’ve never done an evening surf session. Any recommendations on lure color. thanks ! yeah i like using light line for the challenge :) I heard people using more than 4 lb to catch these species . Theres a lot of biggggg fish out there, i was lucky to bring it in :D

any beaches here in san diego are fine, any sandy beaches that hold sand crabs will do. imperial beach, del mar, torrey pines, carlsbad are all nice examples are great places :) have fun!

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel I had them just on a 1/4 oz. Jig. But I was fishing from a kayak. I just make a long cast and let the current pull me, to drag it along the bottom. This was in a harbor. They were no where near the size of yours though lol.

My wife hated fishing before but loves the beaches here. We have tried several places because I have my license and piers. The end of Summer was cool for pier mackerel but I want to catch bigger fish without kelp problems. Have you ever went out with viewers or can you recommend a better area in San Diego? Im trying but struggling to switch from Freshwater to Salt the kelp is a pain in the puet 😂
Nice ! I bet you will love the saltwAter scene here in San Diego . To answer your question , before (covid times ) I would fish with some subs or any anglers I would randomly meet out there . But nowadays , been fishing solo for the mental health :)

Definitely your halibut we call it flounder in North Carolina it seems like there’s more variety of fish in NC. We use mullet. Pinfish and shrimp for live bait.

To be honest, any sandy beaches will hold fish like these! I would start during a low tide, and fish during that transition low to high tide :)
