What I do with my gel pens is place them in between my palms and roll the pen back and forth (creating some friction/heat) and by the heat of my hands usually helps to mix the ink inside. But be warned, sometimes it gets to flowing so well it may flow out in a glob, so test it on a swatch paper first before you place it on your artwork. See if that helps anyone?
Great review! I enjoy doing Zentangle on black paper and If I bought that 3 pack it would be most likely for the gold. Thank you for saving me from that irritation. Signo Uniball all the way😉
That copper pen you got in the pack of three had a copper decal instead of sliver. I know it might be picky, but the stock of Pentel copper 12 packs I order for my studio comes with the same copper decal. All the Variety pack comes in sliver decal from pentel.
I'm watching this whist I'm racing around this AM & haven't had a chance to read comments - apologies if I'm repeating. FWIW, I have an older gold Sunburst that works. (😯! Unfair! I know .... LOL). Compared to the Uni 1.0 gold, the Sunburst ink imho, while properly metallic, is darker and less shiny (less brassy) than the Uni. It's enough of a contrast that I occasionally use the Sunburst as the "shading" value vs. Uni as highlight on an "all metallic" item when coloring. If this is going to be a regular problem with Pentel, then maybe my color commentary above is just an historical note. Surprised at the depth of the fail, though - the Sunburst line has been around forever. I'm wondering whether they've changed their ink...? Coincidentally (?), I've been having the same problem with Gelly Roll Metallic in both gold & bronze for appx 1 1/2 years. The ink separates over time. Bright yellow ink deposited on paper, with all the sheen staying in the pen, and looking a little... particulate? The yellow is actually sort of nice - also very bright, but since Gelly Roll doesn't have yellow outside of Stardust, I've made lemonade ... LOL I've also tried many things to stop it; so far storing point down has helped most but still not perfect. I don't know whether it's the same, obviously... But hoping this can help someone sleuth it out. Thanks so much for all you do Update: 3/6: I just found a green Metallic Gelly Roll that has also done the "dividing ink" trick. 😕 What's going on, I wonder?
I've been using the Pilot G2 Metallic Gold. It's amazing. I'm getting a gold and silver set this week. I will let you know how it is. But the gold is great. I love metallics more than glitter. The rest of the G2 metallics are good too, I have gold, blue, purple, green, and a pinkish red (it's a different color). As for Sparkle Pops.... I'm addicted to the orange and red ones.
For those who have the budget to afford $1+ per pen, may I suggest Yasutomo Gel Xtreme Metallic. It's a set of 7 and the colors look close to the Sunbursts. Approximately $10 for the set and available on Amazon and JetPens.
When I have a dud pen, I take out the tip, you have to carefully wiggle the tip and then soak it in warm water. Then take a needle and run it through the bottom to clear any ink build up. It works great after that.
It's good to know that the other pens aren't worth it. I love the Sparkle Pops and Krazy Pops. Have you tried the other gel pens that are like Sparkle Pops? THE ZSCM 36 pack Metallic Sparkle Pens (18 pens, 18 refills) and the Dyvicl Metallic Gel Pens (12 Pens). They're really awesome!
I love gold pens, but have had problems with every one that I can recall. I’ve had the solvent based gold ones and the gels and had better luck with the gels. I think there must be technical challenges for the pen makers with the gold pigment in general and how it mixes. I’ve had the solvent ones write beautifully for a while, then they will dry out and then when I prime them to get them going again, I get a blob of paint. The other issue is that even with shaking them laterally, as is recommended, to get the gold mixed properly, I will have a dull gold color come out, but no metallic. Very frustrating.
Pentel Dual Metallic in Gold beats those other pens hands down, broad nib, solid metal look with glitter on top. Other colours are equally metallic and also look different on black and white paper.
I’ve always used a lighter to get my pens flowing...which isn’t very convenient considering I don’t smoke. Never have and never will. I don’t even light candles after a my sister-in-law’s sister and 2 y/o niece died when her 4 y/o nephew was playing with a lighter while he was supposed to be sleeping. Burned their house down and caused an explosion. The mom and baby girl were blown out the house on their way out. 🥺😭 I will definitely be trying the warm water trick for sure. 💕
do you have a video(s) that talks about the 'amount' of ink that you get inside of these gel pens? I have different sets of these and I look at the ink tubes and it looks like one brand has a lot more ink than the other. Yet, the one that looks like it has less ink seems to last longer because the ink is thinner or the nib is finer. It's so difficult to judge these things and I wonder if I should just borrow the secret underground laboratory of a mad scientist so that I can use the tools to measure/judge the ink quantity, as well as the value you get per pen between the different brands based on how long the ink will last or how much coverage you'd get.
Yep...the cheap gel pens in the metallics are fine. It’s just that the gold pigment is not as smooth and not as “real gold” looking. I think for people (like calligraphers) who must have pro-performance gold ink, they probably use dip pens and buy a quality gold ink sold in the small bottles at the art supply stores.? Hopefully some pen maker will solve this “gold” issue at some point for those of us who love to write in gold, but are not calligraphers.
Either Pentel has fixed this issue or I got SUPER lucky with my five pack of pens. Every pen works and flows flawlessly and all of the colors are a beautiful metallic. Here's hoping that's its a fixed issue instead of me getting lucky!
Thanks for review....i enjoy gel pens also i think i won't buy pental pens due to issues wirh manufacture issues...mikelle art mom...thanks for honest review i agree get refund....

Thanks for the good intel! I’m loving the sparkle pop pens! Too bad about these. Appreciate you doing the reviews and helping us save 💰

I have the gold Sunburst Pentel pen and it works properly on black paper. It's one of my favorite pens to write with when taking notes for work.

I recommend doing this in a separate container, away from the sink, incidentally. It’s /really/ easy to drop a tiny ball nib.
When I have 1 that doesn't flow I try to write on rough fabric like a washcloth it works sometimes 🦋

Are there any non-glitter non metaliic gel pens with a 1mm wide ball and a good range of colors.?

It looks like they work /better/ on black, to me. They all at least had a sheen.
I love Gel Pens they write so smooth 😊
Can't wait..its always good
This one surprised me a lot. I still want you to use some Chalk Markers or acrylic paint pens.
New follower and I’m loving all your videos.
I have to try these now! That bronze is sooo pretty
Do gel pens have lot numbers?🤔
Thank you for another great review! Poor performance on the #Pentel Sunburst. I hope they see this.

Off topic is that white fluffy thing a dog or cat?
That's their lil doggo Rose :)
That's a bummer about these pens! Looks like Pentel has some tweeking to do with their formula for the Sunburst pens!
Why doesn’t Pentel test their gold on black paper before selling this? I would also say the bronze is more of a copper.
And then, I was thinking that Pentel was slipping a bit, and that track “Slipping” came into my head.
Did anyone else start hearing the hymn “Silver and Gold” when she was talking about the Tanmit on the black? Just me? Ok...
Nope, you're not alone! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry i missed the live event my dang internet just wouldn't connect...

You are just so ADORABLE!
Comment if your there hi from uk it 1am on 25 Feb
Hello. Wow that’s some dedication!
💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜
Why do companies name obviously copper pens bronze? Gold pen is disappointing.
Hello
I love love love you
You should call the company and let them know. Let them know you have an art (tutorial) UA-cam channel (proof). Maybe they'll give you free stuff as well as getting their sh&$# together lol.
Hi other people waiting!!!! Lol 😆
Your red looks like pink. I haven't found anybody who does a good ruby red. Not even faber-castell.
