  • Well, I really think the rattle is there now. I’m hearing more than just a ticking. I’ll take it into Ford and see what they say.

    Its under warranty, so you're covered. Have the Ford tech make a notation on your VIN, then go and run the snot out of it and enjoy it. Its either going to grenade or it won't. Worrying about it will only cause you to lose sleep, so try not to let it bother you. All of us `18 owners are in the same boat.

      After taking it in, if they don’t find something, running it and enjoying it is exactly what I plan to do. I won’t lose sleep over it.

      Games&Gears yeah I have the tick and a flutter around 2000-2500 rpm no matter the temp. It's piston slap and will cause scoring to the cylinders. I looked into the forums and a guy took it to get looked at and had excessive damage to cylinders 5-8 and he only had like 3000 miles. I'm at 9600 and it keeps progressively getting louder, so I'm having it check out August 6.

    Out of all the weird noises GT owners have posted ,Yours sounds the least troubling , at least yours is a consistent even sound. Others I've heard sound far more questionable...Good luck, hope all is well...Also NEVER run crappy fuel in your car .And if you have to, then drive it easy. Especially on a hot day....

    If the car was mine and it sounded that way why not send off an oil sample to Blackstone Labs. See if your oil and engine are in good health.

    Towards the end your motor sounded like mine, the ford 5.4L 3v found in the 2004--2008 f150s . I've been hearing that sound since 54,000 miles when I bought it used and it still runs at 130,000 miles.

    My wife’s 2017 1.5 Ecoboost in her escape ticks, my 2017 3.5 ecoboost F150 ticks. I’ve been told it’s just normal. When I first start the truck it taps, ticks and rattles.. sounds like a POS for 3 seconds and then it’s fine.
    Side note - surely not the case with the GT but in my manual it says warm up isn’t required, not that I wouldn’t not warm up some before driving. Seemed odd to me.

    I would take a broom handle (wood) and cut it off . Place it on various spots , bottom and top of engine and hold your ear up to the other end , usually you can pin point where the noise is coming from . Top end = valve adjustment . Middle or bottom end = new motor !

    I'll be the first tell you you the gen3 Coyote has issues and yours is on the list, but I'm not hearing anything too crazy in this video. Not compared to the other ticking videos I've heard. I can hear the DI more than anything else. You, however, will know if something has changed or gotten louder. From my perspective, it sounds pretty normal, however if it sounds different than how it normally sounds, then yes, definitely don't procrastinate. Now I'm just talking about the tick, not rattle. If you have the rattle, that's a whole other story. Good luck!

      I agree...direct injection is noisy as hell...just listen to the Subaru Boxer engine. Also most of the engine issues on the new Mustangs are catastrophic failures, those typically do not happen slowly.

      I have an frs currently and I'm getting a get in a few months that sound is 100% direct injection. Tends to happen when the car is really cold or when the car has been driven a lot. At least that's when I tend to hear it start ticking the most.

  • @Karrottop009
    @Karrottop009 6 років тому

    Just passed 7k miles running my car on 5w-30 per track use spec in manual with nothing like this. I like to drive in spirited fashion in my 7 mile commute. Yours is definitely mechanical. Direct injection would be a tick with each fuel injection (go figure). It's a very high pitched, fast paced tick just like the ignition coils. With the deep sound it has, I vote crank rotational assembly.

    When you put the video under the car it sounds like my longtubes sounded like on my 5th gen Camaro, thin stainless exhaust systems will allow more ugly ticking sounds to get through, and that'd be my guess. I don't know about Fords but the new Camaro basically has a stainless shorty header on the LT's now and anything of that nature will let ticking noises get through. On top of DI systems being noisy to begin with, as long as you're not hearing a knock from the crank case then you're probably just fine it's normal operation. My LS3 sounded like a chinese sweat shop once the oil warmed up and thinned. Enough to make anyone who is slightly paranoid think you've got a lifter problem but it's normal. Also you have a LOT of valves and cam action going on with thinner oil you're gonna hear it. Good luck though!

    Turn up the radio or focus on the sweat sound of the exhaust! Coyotes are just noisy. I have a first gen in my F150. Makes all sorts of racket, but the truck runs great! I completely ignore it and keep on driving! The last thing you want is a Ford “mechanic” touching your car. You have plenty of warranty left if there is some catastrophic failure which is highly unlikely to happen . Enjoy the car man!

    I think you shouldn’t worry about it. If you’re still under warranty for a good while then enjoy the car.
    I think you’re looking around on UA-cam too much. I know 3 other people with 18’s and they have the tick but it’s the high pressure fuel injection noises..
    I also have the 18 and it ticks only when it’s cold. When it’s warm it’s fine.

    • @OffroadNow
      @OffroadNow  6 років тому

      Yeah, I said in this video and the last one that the ticking, to me, is 100% the GDI part of the injection system. However, just to reiterate what I said in this video, there’s a new noise I didn’t hear before. It definitely could be nothing, and maybe you guys can’t make it out in the video, but it definitely seems new and noticeable to me. So, I figure there’s no harm in taking it in for a look.

    • @ShawnGilbert1967
      @ShawnGilbert1967 6 років тому

      Well there are two confirmed ticks that StangMode DOES NOT HAVE and his car is one of the fastest is he not running the same car? Dude went to track with him and listened to his same 2018 no tick...and another whose tick ended up being the piston scoring the walls and another with timing chain.....that's just off top of my head.....
      Dismiss it if you want but I wouldn't
      Btw I tested one didn't hear it....and a Camaro heard nothing like that and he let me run it pretty hard...a scat pack 392 and 5.7l ( not even sure if they are direct injected or a hybrid )...no ticks on any of em.....
      Does it take a while because the 5.0L's Ive heard personally were all new? Sounded like an old solid lift flat tappet cam light smooth like a soft sewing machine but nothing like your videos

  • @ericwilliams4551
    @ericwilliams4551 6 років тому

    Sounds kind of like the rollers and cam they should definitely check that . Just had very similar sounds on my peterbilt there was a bad roller and it had caused damage to the can so we replaced the rollers and cam now she is quiter than when it was new. I know the mustang isn't a Simi but a motor is a motor with little variances .

  • @rvscatpack8479
    @rvscatpack8479 6 років тому

    And it will also rule out any noise coming from said fuel system , you should only here the internal parts of the engine , note there will be noise but if it’s a metal on metal tick .... it will show up either on the top of motor or bottom or in the middle of the block

  • @JBWHITEGT
    @JBWHITEGT 6 років тому

    I’d just drive it and enjoy. If the noise gets worse or the engine blows then take it in. Every car I’ve owned had engine noises particular to the engine. My 2011 5.0 had smoking issues since I bought it at 1500 miles. It was notated and I drove it up to 30k miles when it started getting worse. But it drove like a beast and Ford honored my warranty and gave me a reman engine that actually ran slightly stronger.

    I just got back from my service appointment I made a big complaint with my survey so they took an interest with me. The manager of the service department had an employee that worked there that was having the same ticking issues and clutch shudder I was having. So for the both of us he decided he was going to do the borescope I requested. I was able to go back there and witness the borescope myself speak with the mechanic and we found nothing all the cylinder walls looked perfectly fine. The service manager got a brand new 2019 Mustang the same as mine GT performance pack manual it made the same rattle noise with light throttle between 2000 and 3000 RPMs and also had some mild clutch shudder when first engaged. I'm completely stumped I had a 2014 that made a ticking sound just like this and also a rattle after my first oil change and it had cylinder wall damage that was bad enough for them to replace the motor. I don't know what's going on with these new ones. If a brand new 2019 with no miles on it is doing the same stuff I'm just going to chill for a while and see what happens.

    Hmmm sounds normal actually. Not making the bad metal on metal tick from under car on passenger side. This engine sounds ok. And your smart not to tune it. Its a violation of Federal Law to tamper with the ecu. And the EPA is starting to crack down dealers to give them the names of customers with flagged vehicles. And there is no such thing as an undetectable tune because there is no way to re-lock the ECU. Sure you can de-tune it to stock but the ECU is now permanently unlocked... You can use Ford Racing catalog parts but your warranty becomes 75% instead of 100%. Still better than aftermarket. I am not sure if Ford us working on a performance stg 1-3 upgrade program like they did for the 2015-2017 csrs. They are getting a upgrade tune for the 2018+ Ecoboost ready. That's how they did it before: Ecoboost tune then 3 stage 5.0 upgrades. It might follow for V8s as before.

    replace your fuel pump w DW-400 and start putting in 11 quarts of oil even though the book says 10. And that is from FORD walnut, creek and Valve Auto Novato (CA) NOT Motorcraft- use Amsoil engine oil rear diff and transmission. I have a 2019 GT w just about every Steeda, BMR full suspension replacement, control arm, sway bars, verical links, etc...Pedders, Granetilli coil packs, MGW, DSS solid shaft w G force rear axles, Roush cold intake and tune, 11 quarts my friend and JLT oil catch cans.

    definitely hearing the high pressure fuel pump. My ecoboost and my new 17 Sierra both which are direct injection make that sound. Thatsbjust they way they are designed. Not gonna find anything to be worried about my man. Go listen to any newer direct injection engine. Your gonna hear the same :) also keep in mind sending engines have much better engine covers.what I mean is that engine cover all its there for is to dampen that sound. The 2018 had a very sharp sloping hood. There for the engine cover can't be to thick. Take the engine cover off and your gonna find some type of material cloth or rubber under it. All its purpose is to dampen the noise from the direct Injection fuel system. Bigger cars with more under hood clearance will have a bigger engine cover usually to help reduce or completely take away that noise so the driver can't notice it. So if u go look at a direct injection engine and can't hear it. Take that cover off and I bet money u will hear the same noise haha! Rest easy man!

    I hate not knowing a noise like that, It sounds like its comping from the driver front of the engine. Almost like a baseball card in a bicycle spoke. Could be a number of things, bent push rod, timing is off alignment, crank is bad or even the piston. Or it could be because it's a new engine it need more break in period. I just shooting in the dark sorry.

    I have the tick while it's warming up. After it's up to normal operating temp I hear nothing. I have a 18 GT with 4500k. I do however have thunks as I shift from time to time. Not grinding but thuds as I shift from 2-3 or while rolling and going from neutral to 1st. I need to take mine in too!

      Justin Burnside Dude when I got my car from the dealer it didn't make any of the noises it's making now, which is the constant off rhythm tick from under the driver side fender and a flutter when acceleraring in the rpm range of 2000-2500. It sounds almost like maracas. I stand corrected the guy on the forum only had 1500 miles and when thwy pulled the spark plugs and dropped a boroscope they found excessive damage to cylinders 5-8 here's the link to his video and I shit you not it's the same noise my car is making.

    your injectors tick. Take that hideous engine cover off and take a normal stethoscope....put it on valve cover, you probably will here no tick. Put it by the fuel injector and you probably will here a very strong audible tick. You probably will here it on the intake manifold as well.

    • @OffroadNow
      @OffroadNow  6 років тому

      Yeah, I want to try this before taking it in. I’ll still likely take it in, regardless... but I can use the information I gather from the stethoscope method to compare and contrast what Ford finds.

    • @OffroadNow
      @OffroadNow  6 років тому +2

      Not according to Ford.
      I understand your sentiment, but man, people need to get with the times and stop spreading this misinformation. 87, from Shell no less, doesn’t hurt these cars. Ford says so (it’s in the manual as 87 recommended), third party studies say so, and thousands of modern V8 car owners say so.
      93 gets you more power, but 87 doesn’t “hurt” these engines. Modern cars have knock sensors up the wazoo and simply pull timing if need be.
      When my choice is 87 or no gas because 93 isn’t available, I’m going 87.

    • @ericwilliams4551
      @ericwilliams4551 6 років тому

      That's not true they actually suggest 87 octane and I have had a 2016 and 2017 mustang GT premium convertible and run both on 87 octane and they both run like a dream and roar when you want them to .

    • @1986carpediembaby
      @1986carpediembaby 6 років тому

      Keep running 87 in it. Keep reading your manual. Keep believing it’s just a myth! Il keep going down the road with zero issues. My 18 is one of 6 mustang I own. No tick no ping out of any of em

    • @1986carpediembaby
      @1986carpediembaby 6 років тому

      I hope you get your issues resolved. The problem isn’t with ford engineering. The problem is what your getting at the pump. Knock sensors do a great job but they can’t detect every thing. They can’t detect carbon build up from bad gas. I’ve read all the studies done but my experience really gives me a different perspective. Poor gas can be really bad to internal components.

    • @ericwilliams4551
      @ericwilliams4551 6 років тому

      I agree if you get bad gas it can cause issues but these engines were set up to run on 87 and run just fine as such. If you are racing yes you don't want to run that but generally driving on the street occasionally getting in it there will be no issues unless you are buying gas from some cheep convince store that has very old tanks with trash and water and algee in them . Honestly I wish it didn't have ethenol in it that has caused more problems with our cars than anything because it will draw water if it gets too long not to mention the garbage it turns to this is why you can't even run small engine machinery on it because it crystalizes you have to take your carburetor apart and clean the diapham every time you use it or it won't start again. I bet theses cyote engines would run like a dream and get better fuel milage if they didn't have the ethenol . Not to mention when I was growing up you could buy 100 octane at the pump at most gas stations .

    That engine does not sound right at all. It should sound tight, but it has a top-end "ticking" (if I can call it that), and there's something else going on further down in the block. I would not be happy with it either and I say that with experience (I was an A-Grade mechanic in my younger years).
