Which title would have the worse acronym though, Away Missions or Away Team? Hard to say, really. Man, this game is so much fun. When it came out I thought *sure* that the Overkill mechanic would be lifted by other games, but I was sure wrong about that. Hopefully this video will help to get the word out!
Nice job, Tom. I actually like this one quite a bit. I remember I found it pretty challenging. I don't think the general style comparison to AH came to my mind before watching this, but it's fairly obvious, I suppose. Space Cadets is definitely a more interesting iteration on this general idea, though.
How did you know about this? For me, it just kind of bubbled up randomly while I was following an unrelated discussion and I decided to give it a try. I think it's really smart, and far better than a lot of dungeon crawlers. I'm glad I didn't miss it.
One of the designers, Dan Raspler, is part of a New York gaming group that I follow, so I saw their 'beta' testing game reports in the years it was in development. Here is one of their pre-release reports, for example. www.boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/29318/aar-8-april-2014-pax-porfiriana-space-cadets-away
Great game system, the essence of dungeon crawler without any of the usual fiddlyness. I love it. Probably the silly theme (I like it too) prevented it from getting more popular.
Great video!
I wish you had much more like this in which you're speaking of game mechanics and design aspects.
Thanks!
Ah the Iron Lady in the background.
Thanks. Just picked this up from my local store as they had it new for only 19.99
Oh god. That tile layout example. Good stuff.
I feel like this should be posted over at Quarter to Three and Patreon.

Right? Why haven't more games copied it?

That's a lot of Thatcher
Euphemisms!
I think you mean Gillian Anderson.
She's the woman Sara Palin wishes she was...
Sarah Palin certainly has aged well and after LASIK.
Very neat overview, Tom - thanks 🙂
I also like this game. I like Secret Unknown Stuff: Escape from Dulce a little more. Both super fun.
Welp, there's another game I've never heard of that I'm going to have to track down... :)

Woodglut is nice for that.
