This is the second and final video for this project. Even though this is HO 1/64th Tyco slot car track , this technique can be used on all scales of track. Very cool video and a great way to up the wow factor to any slot car layout….

    Phenomenal workmanship, my friend. Im just getting back into slot cars recently with my grandson.
    Pulled out my old tyco set from 1984 in my mothers' basement, and it it still worked. Lol
    I went out and purchased a carrera digital 132 race to victory set plus 4 boxes of straights and another box of extensions.
    Now I want to add another 132 set and also want to get the afx giant raceway from Summit for 279 minus another 20 for spending 250 or more.
    Afx giant raceway for 259 is the cheapest i have ever seen
    it.
    Awesome channel and video, my friend. Subbed.

      Got a question though. My track is going to be a 3 lane raceway. I'm thinking I want to paint the groove to identify the racing lanes. Will the affects work when adding the lane colors this way? Also can it be outside the groove and under the copper tape?

      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  2 роки тому

      @@johnparker2062 you could paint the slot , but keep the paint to the base of the slot and off the side walls. This isn’t an easy task , and especially not with HO.. you can have the color “under”. the copper tape , this shouldn’t give you any issue. As long as you have the rails exposed and nothing covering them you should be okay

      @@BoonesSlotCarGarage Why not paint the walls of the groove? If I use a semi or full gloss it would be easier to slide through then plain routered MDF (reminder 1/32 3 lane routered track on MDF). Then use flat or eggshell paint for the track drive surface.

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  2 роки тому

      @@johnparker2062 actually the router cut is very smooth , the problem with trying to paint the slot is that to get the paint to lay smooth on a hidden surface can be a challenge…

    Wow, that was impressive. You took plastic track and made that section look routed.
    I’m currently prepping my track (added aprons, filled gaps, and sanded entire raceway) to be painted. I’ll be sure to follow your other prep work tasks (alcohol, scotch-brite, etc) before I paint, but I must admit that I can’t wrap my head around painting the rails. Any words of encouragement to try your method would be greatly appreciated.

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  Рік тому

      Thank you Mike , HO rails are very forgiving when it comes to getting some paint on them , because it’s so easy to clean off . Either use a finer sandpaper grit or a razor blade to drag across the rail to remove the paint. The larger scales of track need to be masked off , but HO your good to go

      @@BoonesSlotCarGarage Thanks Boone. You seem to have mucho more experience than I, so l’ll trust you opinion on this. Of course, when I watched your Deception Raceway video, I can see you have the skills of a Disney Imagineer, so I’m gonna trust you on all aspects of building a slot car raceway.
      I would love to spend a couple days studying Deception Raceway. And I’m sure that once i’m done, you would still be able to show me something I missed. Your eye to detail is master craftsman status and this raceway is a work of art.
      Well it’s time to get back to my raceway and finish up my prep work. I think I’ll watch your other track painting videos to see what other magic tricks you have up your sleeve before I paint mine.
      Enjoy

    That's pretty dang cool Boone! It does fool the eyes. Especially when you're flying through that Apex. You don't have time to study the track lol. But, on a side note, I think I'm gonna switch back to Tyco track. The AFX/Tomy 9" 1/4 turns are not exactly 1/4 turns. I put 4 of them together to try n makes full circle but, it's about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch short. Makes it really hard to figure out a layout. I'll post pics soon on your Facebook site and show you.

      That's exactly what I've always been worried about. Also, I never had a lot of luck soldering jumper & power wires to track rails. If I could master that I have thought about jumpering every single piece of my 20' layout. I know it would be a major task but it would be worth it to give me the confidence to putty up & paint the roadway. I have wanted a landscaped and detailed layout all my life.

Plan is to find a new home with a large garage or shop that I can really go crazy with. What about a slot table hinged on a wall to be let down for use and returned upright for storage? Your thoughts please.🏁✌️🏁

    • @BoonesSlotCarGarage
      @BoonesSlotCarGarage  2 роки тому +2

      😂… that’s a good one 🎸 … but yes , the hinged idea can work. Just a few things to take in consideration when doing this . First , if you plan on a track that you don’t have to assemble each time , you will need to secure it to your table. And Second…. If you plan on elevation changes or some scenery that is attached to your table , you will need to take this into consideration when designing and building the hinged table. You will need to extend the mounting outward to allow the clearance once the table is in it stored position…
