- In 1971at the world premiere of Death in Venice in London, Italian director Luchino Visconti proclaimed Björn Andrésen, the teen star of his latest film, "The most beautiful boy in the world.” This is the story of a boy who was thrust to international stardom for his iconic looks and lived a life of glamour. 50 years later, Björn looks back.
The film opens theatrically in the United States at THE QUAD CINEMA in New York on September 24rd and will play at the festivals prior to that. Playdates will be posted on the website as they come in at themostbeautifulboy.com/

To mention the boy group TXT, I don’t know much about them aside from that they are still so incredibly young (there’s boys and girls that debut at 14, and become objectified by media.) I think it’s horrible and it has to stop. You can’t put an age on succes, but if it were possible Id make a rule for no idolizing until age 18 at least.

The irony of the comments judging his appearance, when the movie itself talks about how people were not able to see HIM, how he was not able to become someone, because his thoughts and who he is never mattered...that now at his old age, he still feels lost, like he could never find himself. Everything he was and his worth as someone was directly correlated on how he looked like. When you're a girl, you're objectified so often since birth on every single level that you get used to it, and can eventually have a hard time realizing where the sexualization begins and stops.
I think that's why it feels even more distinctly wrong to hear a boy talked about like this; I'm not used to it, so it shocks me into realizing just how terrible it really is: the way he's been treated and the way I've been treated.
I wish I could be as angry about objectification towards me as I am at the objectification towards boys, but I'm so used to it by now. I pray he is doing alright, nobody deserves this.

The most beautiful thing about Björn is his strength to move on and upwards- it shines through. As someone with a traumatizing childhood as well, I know that it is not easy to conquer what has been done and to heal from it. He did it with many eyes on him, though, and that is incredible.

When my husband and I were dating he told me he loved me for the first time. I started crying and he asked me why? "Is it because you think you don't deserve to be loved?" I said yes. I remember seeing "Death In Venice" on PBS as a kid. I was floored by Bjorn. I couldn't believe a boy could be so beautiful. It actually was a very poignant movie about the loss of youth and aching to return back to it.
OMG! He was the old man who sacrificed himself in Midsommar. That's crazy. He's apart of film history for the best head trauma scene in a horror movie for sure.

I was approached by a scout when I was younger which my mom turned down a few times. I was upset when I was little, but as an adult I realize how traumatic being exposed to that world could have changed me. So heart breaking to see this man go through this his whole life.

In my own case, I must qualify that. Ugliness can, in itself, be a form of beauty. But wearing sunglasses, a hat and a breathing mask helps greatly ameliorate normal people's reactions.

Walking out of the cinema dazed in ecstasy after seeing Death in Venice at age 16 myself I thought Bjorn was breathtaking in that film. He was my idealised Alexander the Great for the rest in my life. He’s still hauntingly beautiful as a person.

Just watched death in venice this weekend. I have not watched this documentary yet. Hope I could. But based on what I'm hearing I feel this heartache for him. I pray that he is living a happy now.

What a hauntingly beautiful and very spirited film. To see someone who’s willing to show themselves, their journey and reflect lie their. It’s rare and it’s bold and brave to do this. Much respect for the documentary filmmaker and for Björn. What a story indeed.

Have you seen Death in Venice yet? Or is this trailer your only introduction to Bjorn Andresens world? People love to knock down anything that looks even the slightest bit sketchy preaching about their love and concern without even having seen the film"Death in Venice" . Go watch the film, or better yet read the book and then come back. Don't let a trailer dictate what you really think and feel or anyone else for that matter.
The only reason I learn his story was because I learned that he was the biggest influence for bishounen(beautiful boy) characters in anime in Japan. His life is so sad.

And it was section talking about shoujo(girl)manga it mentioned the character he portrayed inspired the creation beautiful boy characters(called bishounen) in Japan in the 70s . I read it a long time ago. Then i grew curious what happened to him and read his wiki.

The movie itself can seem innocent and inoffensive but if you've never dived into the horrors that happen behind the scenes of Hollywood child exploitation and abuse I invite you to do so. So many directors and producers abused young celebrities behind closed doors and you'd never suspect a thing due to the secrecy of everything. It isn't until very later in life that they open up about the horrors they've lived. Quit supporting heretical behavior in the name of art. This is creepy to the core. He could've just looked for a grown man that looked young enough and handsome enough to fit the role, it didn't have to be a literal 15 year old teenager. Hollywood and the entertainment industry is sick and perverted, get over it

Visconti was not a Hollywood man, and none of the film was made in Hollywood. There is nothing to suggest any kind of child exploitation or abuse. In an interview I saw a number of years ago, Andresen actually said that when he was with Visconti, he felt safe. Just because Visconti was a homosexual, doesn't mean he was salivating over the boy. He was a seasoned and professional director, who made some of the most beautiful films ever, of a kind unknown in Hollywood.
Because so many puritans in the US have such prurient minds (a characteristic of puritans), Hollywood is terrified of using real boys for boys' parts. And we get adults playing teenagers, making the whole thing ridiculous. The worst example I can think of is All the Pretty Horses, with Matt Damon in his thirties playing a teenager.

Popular culture has such a fascination with physical beauty at the exclusion of so many much more important things. What is interesting about this is that the 'victim' (so to speak) is male rather than female. So much fixation on one's physical image, particularly when the whole world is watching, can make an empty shell of a person, especially if it happens when they are young and don't have an emotionally intelligent family, who is able to see them in a deeper unconditionally loving way. Ugh, the human created world is so weird and disconnected.
Except he's not a victim. His beauty gave him opportunities in film. He was rewarded handsomely for his acting job, got to see the world, and then it was over. And like so many young actors, he couldn't repeat the success, got himself into trouble, and blamed it on those who had treated him well rather than those who treated him badly.
There's a reason why no director, including Visconti, ever wanted to work with him again. Beauty alone is never enough.
