  • A regular performer on the Surrey Hills circuit, BR(S) Rebuilt 'Merchant Navy' Class - 35028 "Clan Line" would make one final fling on the route for this year, at the helm of 'The British Pullman: Christmas Lunch' excursion. Given the time of year, with heavy leaf-fall, DB Cargo Class 67 - 67021 was present on the tail of the tour.
The tour began out of London Victoria, with the Bulleid pacific working via Feltham and Staines to Chertsey, working onwards to Shalford via Byfleet. From Shalford, the Merchant would head back to the capital, travelling via Redhill and Croydon.
Starting out near Egham, 35028 is seen pounding over Pooley Green level crossing on the outbound leg to Chertsey. The Bulleid is subsequently captured at Woking Junction, as it leaves the South West Mainline, heading for Guildford. Finally, deep in the Surrey Hills, "Clan Line" produced a fine performance climbing Gomshall Bank, passing the cameras at Hackhurst Farm.
All footage filmed on Saturday the 11th of December 2021.

    Great footage, thanks.
But, ouch, the state of the track at Pooley Green level crossing. Poor old Clan Line had to negotiate quite a dip there immediately after the crossing and the up line looks even worse.

      Cheers!
The bump through the crossing did catch me by surprise. Though the condition of the 3rd rail gave some indication to the heavy wear the route has seen.

All I want for Christmas is a Bulleid giving it some in her home country, thanks Matt👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 So, to stop the leaf wheel spinning moments they make her drag some extra weight🤔🤔🤔🤔

More than happy to delivery the present, Bob! Always a pleasure to see the old girl out as always.
Ticking over to take its own weight.

Excellent filming of an outstanding loco in top condition. Undoubtedly the best mainline performer at the moment bar none.
I’ve often thought that it would be nice if MNLPS could purchase a second MN as back up and so that they continually have a loco in traffic when 28 is under overhaul given the amount of unrestored locos still extant.
Having said that I’m fully aware of the phenomenal costs of restoration and then maintenance and upkeep once restored so I can understand totally why they haven’t.
We’ll have to be content with 3 in steam for now would love to see more back in traffic as they really are incredible machines. Yes it’s £££ we can but dream!

It's always a pleasure to see "Clan Line" out again. I can fully understand where you're coming from. But as you've well explained, the long term financial side has to be considered.

excellent shots👍 it's ashame they don't put clanline on the Pullman instead of the 67s in Kent or have a mixture of both

Hi. I really like the loco in what I think is called BR Brunswick Green. Steam locos look like they are alive, don't they? Thirteen coaches and the hotel services diesel as well. Still some good legs in the lady.

"Clan Line", owing to the group who maintain her, has always been a fine example of what a Bulleid can really acheive on the mainline. A high performence machine, unleashed.
