    11:13 I think youtube channel attract a very niche crowd and many times it takes about 10 years to reach 100,000 subs... Glad I found this earlier!

    'nostalgia' also has greek roots - 'νόστος' (nostos) means return and 'άλγος' (algos) means pain; so it's the the emotional pain because you want to return (to a place or time)

    10:12 Even though the 20th century was a GREAT century and do yarn it back even if I only had just under 15 years of it, but with the improvements of conditions it brings a population growth and with population growth also inflation and wages need to keep up with that so that then makes shortage of houses and materials and also high cost of labor...
    I hope I live to see factories being built here again that are fully automated that only require few people to run them and that has local recycling etc...

    Probably true about AMC in Australia at 18:10. Although nearly always called and badged them as Ramblers . That was becaused they were assembled by AMI in Australia. AMC too confusing against the long established AMI here with AMI taking quite a while to get the Rambler name established. Soon all changed when Toyota liked how they assembled Toyotas so much that they bought the company to just assemble Toyotas.
    Another company assembled Studebaker cars and I heard it said that if Studebaker had the Australian levels of market share in the US then Studebaker would have been in the car business a lot longer. Even though Studebaker was s niche brand here it was a better niche than US sixties niche.

      Yes I've said the same thing about Studebaker! I see more of them here.

    3:33 It is worth stopping those maps and looking at the distances in the map... Wow!
    However wasn't that improvement in the 1800s even then in 50 years travel was reduced drastically... Having said that though, a lot of people came to Australia by ship and that took a month in 50's and now days it can be done in 20 hours (from Europe), I wish the Concorde was still here so to have 10 hours to Europe, but Australians didn't want it due to the noise... Sigh...

      Some of the changes I mention happened in the 1800s, but it took time for them to have their effects on the larger society.

    8:10 I'd say it is possible to feel nostalgic for a time that one has never lived in... I was born in 1985 but feel "nostalgic" about the 60's for some reason... It is most likely because I heard a lot about those times, but part of me like to think it was due to possibly a past life...
    Also I do see a lot of younger people embracing 50's culture and the "pin up girl" type style so yes it is possible lol

    • @WastelandFirebird
      @WastelandFirebird  5 місяців тому +2

      Oh yeah, if I were offered the opportunity to have been born just a couple decades earlier, my current answer would be "yes, please." I've never said that until recently. But the past couple of decades have been boring and/or stupid in many ways.

      Life was fine not having to cary a brick around in your pocket to answer a phone call. Nearly ran over a girl today so zoned out walking her dog glued to her phone.
