Looking forward to this series. One thing I’ve never been able work out though. Americans pronounce the word route as “rowt”, however when they add a 66 after it, it becomes “root”. I wonder why that is?
They could be seen as two different words! One word means, the path you plan to take, no matter how many different roads it is. The other could mean, a specific road. But the pronunciations are still pretty interchangeable. The only one you have to say "root" is 66, because of the song and all the pop culture references :-)
4:37 I once paid 65 (December 2023) for two hours in inner Melbourne and thought I would have been same situation if I had parked on side of the road and over stayed my limit... Sorry I covered less than half your fee lol
Route 66 is something that people have heard all over the world one way or another and if proper investment it could be great draw card for tourism and it's sad that both private AND government doesn't realize that... The bravery of the later part of 20th century isn't there anymore to try and create something unique or to even maintain an icon... Sigh...
I was surprised by how many people really were out there just to drive the whole road. I thought we'd be the only ones. But we kept running into people from all over the world, who were out there just for Route 66.
