    I had a battery that was showing 4 lights (full charge) and indeed measured about 18V across the terminals that connect to the tool, but when you pull the trigger of a tool, nothing would happen. That same tool worked fine on other batteries. I opened up my battery and it looked super clean inside, but I brushed around gently with a q-tip anyway. Then I used a lead wire to bridge the reset as you described in this video and put the battery back together. Now it works! Not sure if it was the cleaning or the reset, but my guess is the reset since it looked so clean. Thanks for the tip!!

    • @lynpatnat
      @lynpatnat  2 місяці тому

      @@LK-bz9sk if it only lasts a short while before it fails again then there is probably a faulty cell. There are good tutorials in how to test every cell but basically you charge them individually then leave the pack to sit for a week. Then test to see which ones are low voltage. If it's two in parallel then one or both may be faulty. Replace them with known good ones and reset again. Otherwise break. Open the pack and salvage the good cells for a battery bank or to fix a different pack.

    Just to add to your "cleaning" here. Any time you open any battery pack, you should clean all circuitry visible. I personally use a electronic contact cleaner and a soft toothbrush to loosen foreign material. Wood, especially pine and fir, have resins that can stick and won't just blow off.
    Not cleaning the entire board while you are in there may be counterproductive as any loose particles may migrate around the case and lodge where they are least needed. My first step is always using compressed air as a way of freeing up any larger, free particles that may be present. Following up with contact cleaner and soft brush removes smaller less visible dust/wood/metal particles. It also drives out moisture that may be present in your compressed air system. Moisture present in the wrong place can acts as a restisance across contact points and drain or cause unwanted voltage spikes/drops.
    Much care should also be taken to assure you do not touch the WRONG contacts when resetting (shorting) any circuit board. Most complicated circuits contain many micro amp/volt circuits that may contain diodes/ resistors/capacitors that can be damaged by very small currents/voltages.
    Periodically cleaning the outside of portable/cordless battery packs of debris and checking charging contacts for foreign matter is another way to extend/improve battery life and performance,

      @@wolfdog1722 it does sound like it overheated. I'm not sure what the component is ( maybe a safety/ thermal device) but hey if it fixed it then that's a win. Tradies give everything a thrashing so I guess even the factory can't think of a harder way to test tools. If companies want people to keep buying their power tools then they need to come up with better ideas than just bricking batteries. I'm but a tradies ( retired) so I just buy Ozito. You can't beat 5 year warranty (2 or is it 3 years on batteries) as long as I keep the receipt but they are not trade tool build.
      If ever you needed to rebuild a battery though you could pull the cells out of a Ozito battery pack but that's a whole different level of fixing things.

    • @lynpatnat
      @lynpatnat  8 місяців тому

      Probably won't work on a faulty battery with a faulty cell.
      You can open it up and charge the individual cells. Then put it away for a week. Then test the voltage on each cell. If one is more than the rest then that can be replaced if you have another battery that you can get one out of.
      It's a bit hard to explain the full way to do it but there are lots of videos explaining the process with other brand battery packs.
      They do wear it over time.

    I have 4 sets of batteries of this kind, the best measuring 18,4v and the rest between 3 and 9 on the outgoing charger pins. Ive cleaned, reset and still wont charge. I even bought a new used charger but still the same. Im getting red and green flashes on 2 batteries, and constant green "full battery" on the best and 2nd best "charged" battery. Dunno what next to do. Buy new batteries?

    • @lynpatnat
      @lynpatnat  Рік тому

      You print have some faulty cells (the individual batteries inside).
      If you have a charger for 18650 batteries then treat each cell like it is it's own cell. Charge then one by one. They should go to 4.2v. if they don't then they are faulty. You may have cells in sets of parallel. You may have to break the connection between the sets to find the fault cells.
      There are lots of video's on UA-cam how to test individual cells. Mostly you test one by one. You charge them. Then let the batteries rest for 1 to 2 weeks then check the voltage of the cell. If it is lower than the others it has failed.
      You may be able to make one for battery or if two. Getting into battery rebuilding is a skill. UA-cam will give you the best information as you should use a spot welder for connecting the cells. You can solder but it's not recommended.
      To me you have failed cells in the pack.

    • @lynpatnat
      @lynpatnat  Рік тому

      Also somtimes if you let the battery get too low you will have to recharge each cell in the pack individually. As I mentioned. Test the voltage on each cell in the pack and make a sharpie pen mark on the low voltage ones. Use budget wires to charge them from a 18650 battery charger to 4.2v. then see if the pack charges on the factory charger. No need to break the metal strap connectors until you have tried this.

    • @lynpatnat
      @lynpatnat  Рік тому

      If all that fails then it's time to learn how to rebuild them out give them to a friend that can dismantle them and use them in a ebike project. The good cells can even be used in torches. They are 18650 high discharge batteries so still have some uses as cells.

    • @lynpatnat

    • @lynpatnat
      @lynpatnat  6 місяців тому +1

      It's also possible the batteries are out of balance. You can open them and charge each battery by itself. No need to dismantle just get a 18650 charger for individual cells and run jumper wires to one cell at a time. It takes a few days but when they are all fully charged then the battery may work correctly again. Each battery is 3.7v and fully charged it gets to 4.2v but then drops back.
      Search on UA-cam for how to do it

      @@DmacDomage sounds like you have a good grasp of what you need to do. Best of luck. Worst case you may be able to build one good battery out of the two but then you need to cut and spotweld cells and even I just give in at that point.

      Any size. You can use a paper clip or anything wire. As long as you only touch b those two points together for a second then it will reset. Don't leave the wires connected afterwards.
      It won't spark. There is no noticeable current.

    I have changed batterys,how i should reset them can you explain

    • @lynpatnat
      @lynpatnat  2 роки тому

      I can only guess at what you would do but I think the way would be to change the battery pack first then do the reset as I said in the video.
      If that doesn't work you may need to charge each battery with a small jumper lead. You would charge each battery at about 30milliamp at about 4 volt. You would have to make sure you stop the charge at 4.2v for each cell. Don't charge them with more than 4.2v or they will go bang and burn you house down. You would need to look at other video on how to charge one cell at a time.
      You can measure the voltage at the terminals of the pack of it is around 18v it should charge and balance once you reset the BMS like I showed on the video.
      Best of luck.

      @@csacad6008 This video you are looking at shows how to reset when the battery shows a fault. So if you battery has had the cells changed by you and won't charge you need to reset the BMS as I have shown. Then charge the battery on the charger.
      If it won't charge after that and you have reset the BMS so it is not flashing then you need to check the voltage at the terminals. It will need to be around 18v. If you see no voltage or if the battery won't reset you may have to charge each cell inside the battery pack one by one. You can test the cells first by checking their voltage. Each one should be around 3.5v If the BMS thinks there is something wrong it won't reset.
      You can google to see how to test each cell. I no longer have the battery as I have it back to the owner after fixing it.

      I've heard that batteries will go into hibernation if they are fully flat. Connect 12v to the correct terminals for about 30 seconds then put them straight on charge. If that doesn't work then open up the pack. Find the + and - connect at the first and last battery and do it at that point ( maybe give it a couple of minutes). Then put it on charge. If that fails. Test voltage of every cell and charge them one by one at 4.2v until fully charged. Sometimes they are just protecting us from ourselves and sometimes just trying to make extra money. If you get lucky it's a win.
