I have hope we will soon see another update, at least by the end of the year and will see if it becomes worth it. I agree having the map cover more of the screen is ideal.
I have been on Garmin for a while. Zumo 660, 665, XT and currently on a XT2. Use it on all the bikes and the car too. Bluetooth to the phone. Boot up and the GPS/phone connect and pulls the traffic and weather data. It just works.
For what it's worth, if you have a headset with a microphone, there are commands you can issue to the embedded nav app to do things without having to take your hands off the grips. There is no documentation. I discovered these by trial and error. To get the bike to listen, quickly tap the phone/voice button above the right turn signal. (If you have Carplay running, a longer press will activate Siri instead). Saying "Navigate" got the system to ask me where I wanted to go. I replied "Harley Davidson" and it automatically started up the embedded in NAV app and then routed me to the local dealership 55 miles away. I could also say, "Navigate to Harley Davidson" and it would open the app and route me without any questions. I have a home point set in the app. "Navigate home" gets me home the same way. "Zoom in" zooms the map in. And logically, "Zoom out" zooms out. It seems there are seven levels of zoom. 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 22. But the zoom didn't always follow the progression. For instance, saying "zoom in" while at level 8 would zoom to 10, another "zoom in" command would zoom to level 12, one more "zoom in" would go back to level 8 instead of on to level 14.. Kind of flaky. There may be more commands, but this is as far as I've got.
Appreciate the post, I am not sure why the commands are not documented but I will dig into it. The zoom is a win, now can we also just get a hand control option!!
My experience with the boom box and HD, is HD doesn't take much if any feedback. From what I am hearing the boom box Navi system is much better in operation and use. The OS system might be pretty but really not very functional for daily riding. Hopefully after a few years HD will figure it out.
Used my iPhone mounted on handlebars to navigate to Nephew address yesterday (50 mile trip) and it brought me straight to his house without issues. Rode my 2010 Road Glide.
Im up to about 1400 miles on road glide standard and have had zero issues with connecting to wifi. It does it automatically on my bike. My dealer said when i bought the bike a few weeks ago, they went through the entire inventory and updated everything. Sorry to hear about your experiences, because it's a great feature on long rides. That said, I absolute agree that they need to figure out getting back to recenter without touching the screen. And we need zoom in and out that doesn't stop the live view of the ride. Im hoping for an update to address these shortcomings. By the way, thanks for your Android Auto videos. I have the camecho and it works great.
I am wondering if the HotSpot works better with the Android phones. You are not the first to report that it works but it seems to be only working with the Android OS devices. Awesome news on the Camecho, this will improve your navigation options for sure!
@ITF u may have a point. I had no issues with my phone connecting or staying connected. @Michael Like this video says, you can definitely hack it to do Android Auto. I have it connected with the Camecho now, but choose to use the bike instead. Both have shortcomings. The bike doesn't allow you to zoom on the route, which is a real issue at times. But AA doesn't allow you to use all the functionality of the bike. So for now, I keep AA as a backup when necessary.
Great job in addressing the issues with the GPS. I depend on the GPS in makimg custom routes for my weekend rides and long vacation trips. This gps is a definite step back from previous models. It is very basic and a buggy mess. If they can fix the bugs and bring back zoom feature on the controls. Waypoints that we can see and delete on the ride would be a step in the right direction. My gps completely stopped working on my CVO ST. And after 4th trip to the dealership to fix the problem, Harley caved in and shipped a new unit out to install this coming Friday. Its a disappointment for sure regarding the gps. Hopefully Harley sees these types of videos and actually start writing some code and get the gps to be a helpful tool for custom routing trips.
@@ITFZone It stopped navigating, no errors at all. Chevron color is grey instead of orange. Everything else is working. It's like it's not detecting the satellites. They sent out a new gps antenna and installed it with no change. Resetting the unit by pulling the fuse only made the location appear in different places. I am in NY and at the first reset it put me in Alberta Canada another attempt put me in Albany NY 200 miles away from my location...etc. Hopefully when they replace the unit it will work. Even though it will get fixed, I am not confident in this gps. I am going on my yearly two week trip that I custom made and I can't rely that this gps will route me the way I want it to. I feel like buying a Garmin MC GPS for my routing but I want to give them a chance to add features and fix bugs. Hopefully sooner than later.
@@ITFZone I think they reinstalled the software a few times. Who knows. But the phone will definitely be my backup. I use an app for making routes and it has navigation following the routes created as well.
@@asoshkin Out of curiosity which app are you using? I have been using Rever but after a week trip to TN GA twisties Rever was a disaster. Offline would not work at all as this area is not known for cell coverage. So I used a combo of the Harley GPS and a good ole paper map :) Thinking of moving away from Rever.
I’m not really impressed with the unit itself. I still like my GTS navigation compared to the new one. However, I am impressed with your efforts and information.
The Boom system is much more bug free and it took awhile to get there. I do like the size of the new screen for navigation but only if it would work! Appreciate your support of the channel!
First point, I always zoom in and make sure the waypoint is entered on the road, also when doing this you can see if your waypoint is on the correct side of the road. Secondly, if you add locations to your route then when you pass it to your bike your route will be split up into a number of different routes in your test case route 1 home to McDonalds, then route 2 McDonalds to dealer. I did see on your bike it listed routes To Dealer 1 & To Dealer 2 What I do to combat this is, I add the locations I want to visit on my route, once I have finished my route I go back and change the locations to waypoints. This does two things after taking me to my desired location (waypoint) I do not have to reset the route carries on, secondly if I decide I don't want to stop at the location I can just keep going and continue on my way. One bonus feature, on the spec screen it will show how far you have rode on the full route, start finish time etc which if you use actual locations it will only show the last route. I used this method to track a ride I did from Tampa FL to WV, It recorded I did 1020 miles in 15 hours showing actual start and finish times and average speed and how many stops. I took a pic of the screen for my records, No I couldn't use it to get my official iron butt but I knew I did it. I think I will keep my Boom GTS for a while yet...
Good points! The waypoints do not behave the same in the SkyLine system and the RidePlanner shall we say design is still the same. Good idea on the iron butt record. It is so hard to get printed gas receipts. What if Harley got an approved Iron Butt option added to the system that would be official! Great idea!
Well this video saved me a few bucks, I had considered buying the navigation for the weather and traffic but I will be looking for other solutions. I was suggested Waze
so many great apps out there to use and almost everything has the ability to download offline maps and your phone has a built in GPS antenna anyway so it will work without cell service. I like the MyRouteApp and InRoute both of which work with apple CarPlay. Great for planning trips. Just connect the phone to the bike and you are good to go.
Yes the weather overlay would be great if we can get it to work. There is always hope but I agree stick with a phone solution and your favorite app for now.
Nice video. Thanks for verifying my same issues. Apparently you can zoom in and out by tapping the screen with one finger and out with two fingers. Touching the screen is dangerous especially on a Road Glide. Also the vox button allows you to use verbal zoom in zoom out as long as you have a headset. But it is so slow you will most likely pass your area of interest before it zooms. Thanks for doing this video.
For us Android peeps .. we really are stuck using the Harley map. I just loaded it today and went for a ride. Routes .. really dont work. An address with proper avoidance's will get you there. I would imagine the way to set up a route is .. address 1, then 2, then 3 etc etc. Although Google maps is the (free) king, routes can become cumbersome there too. But there, waypoints help.

I just wanted to ask you about the wifi connection with my iPhone which isn't working. I have my phone on hotspot but it doesn't see it. Ciao! Your bike should see the network name of your phone, does it see ANY network names? One good fix for pairing / WIFI issues is to factory reset the system under System - Product Info. This will erase any stored favorites and set your clock back to 24 hr time. BUT this does seem to fix issues where the system does not see devices / WIFI networks. I will say once you have it connected you will likely have to manually connect it through the WIFI menu each OR turn the hotspot off / on via your phone each time you get on the bike. I have had very little luck with it connecting on its own.

What are your thoughts on phone navigation in remote areas where there may not be a signal? Me and my riding buddies are planning another Colorado ride through areas like Gateway, Naturita and the Million Dollar highway, etc. Often there’s no cell signal so I’m assuming the phone nav would not work until a tower is acquired. What are your thoughts this subject? I am thoroughly enjoying your channel and have subscribed!
Ah yes, well your best option is to download the maps for the area while you have signal. Apple Maps now allow for this and most ride planner type of apps support this. Otherwise the HD system would work for remote areas being GPS based with downloaded maps but it just may lock up or the roads might disappear.
@@ITFZone I hope you do an update on this video over the next year or so to see if any of the "gremlins" you've identified have actually been sorted out by Harley. Based on my past experience with Harley, it will probably be a slow process, especially because of the 3rd party involved that has probably developed the software. It's such a shame because it has so much potential. I'm struggling with UA-cam because when I want to see your response to a question, I need to go my video history and find the video, then look for my comment to see your response. I don't know what they did, but my email preferences are checked in my settings to receive an email when a UA-cam channel posts a response. It used to work but not anymore.

I do suspect a SkyLine OS update, hopefully yet this year but if not with the 2025 releases. I’m looking for some slip on mufflers from Harley as I’ve always installed screaming eagle street cannons. But this year Harley says only the new “titanium” slip ons will fit my 2024 street glide. Of course then I need an ECM update and air filter upgrade. Not sure what’s going on because this is only the case on 2024 street and road glides. The Harley parts department says I can use aftermarket or Harley slip ons no problem as long as I don’t change the stock air filter. I only want better sound as I’m happy with the performance. So Harley says no but the parts guy says yes. I have noticed on some UA-cam muffler installs that the 2024 pipes are a different diameter on each side which I don’t recall on my 2009 street glide. I have to say it’s been very difficult to get consistent answers and sometimes no answer at all. Mainly I don’t want to create a fuel mixture issue or worse, a warranty issue. 🤷🏼♂️
Always confusion with mufflers so here is my response. The catalytic converter is in the head pipe and anything after that will have very little impact on AFR (air fuel ratio). The head pipe size/shape has not changed since 2017. So you can use any slip on model from 17 on including the Street Canons as far as I know. The ECM will adjust to keep the motor as close to the EPA AFR so just the muffler alone will be safe. Adding the air cleaner will lean the mixture but in my opinion the ECM will still adjust. Now without a tune you are not likely getting the best performance possible with the air cleaner change. I have left my CVO completely stock thus far. The 121 being so new and frankly I am not overly disappointed with the sound I have left it as is. But I do have a header pipe and thoughts of a bit more bark so I may yet modify. Try a muffler of your choice, air cleaner maybe hold on and see what you think.
Mine has been buggy as hell. used yesterday and it was stuck 1/4 the way into the ride. Nav was locked up. pulled over and let sit for 3-4 minutes, still didn't work. ended up pulling main fuse to get it working again. VERY.. VERY buggy so far.

Hello! Sorry for the delay in response, I took some time this weekend to see if I could figure this out and really I could not find an option. The new system just doesn't support Way Points. However the workaround I came up with was to record a ride and then immediately stop the recording. This would default the name to the GPS location. Otherwise if you use a smartphone and open the HD Ride App you could add a Way Point when you are at the building to your current route and then re-upload the modified ride, this I think is the best option and in the end will give you a stored ride with this location.
ride planner isn't as easy as google maps. saved maps don't always transfer to bike. never reroutes, U-turn to missed way point. takes maybe 40 secs to couple minutes to load gps after starting bike. does not always remember to go to gps and continue route. if music and gps are started at same time it flickers audio/video. map has froze several times. details are sparse at best and disappear at times. Current on updates. overall worth all $350👎. But its still the lesser pain than the android auto fix. Great video
I find the factory nav unusable. Can’t find me, forgets where I am, etc. I also don’t know how to choose twisties instead of highways. So I’m just using Apple Maps.
You can tell it to avoid highways under its settings but I don't disagree it is really too buggy to rely on at all. Looks great on the screen but that's about it currently.
This would be my recommendation! Especially if you are a CarPlay user. BUT if we had something specific for motorcycles that worked it would look great on that big screen.
Please note, the system requires 5Ghz hotspot. This is different than 5G network. Im using 4g and it "works". Still dont much like it, my 19 was much better nav

Do you know if the weather overlay is live while the bike is moving? I've read where some people say the weather doesn't change once the bike is moving.
It is to update as you ride. It truly would depend on your hotspot being connected and the quality of internet speed. BUT it is cloud based and laggy for sure.
@@quiettime6871 I get it. If you rely on navigation this one falls short. My only suggestion is consider an older iPhone that supports a SIM card without service. Then just move your SIM Card from your Android phone over to the iphone when you need it for navigation.
The Harley navigation system is just rubbish, even the 'bird view' is missing. The cards are on by default on my CVO street glide, but I wouldn't spend a dollar on it if this stops after 3 years. I installed my TomTom 550 and it works perfectly. Even with other settings, the set values do not remain fixed but expire, which is very bad for a motorcycle in these price ranges, unworthy of Harley. Kees Groot Netherlands.
You are correct again. New NAV not that great. We have not opt'd to activate it on our new Road Glide. Good video again, except your destination. Mile High Harley - Parker has one of the worst service and sales managers in Colorado. Robbie, Parker's GM is great, but he seems to be stick with these two losers.
I followed Tom in Parts and Rich in sales from Rocky Mountain to MHD Parker. Some of the names have changed recently and I have had a great experience through my CVO purchase. Dealers that can advocate for riders especially with these new bikes are going to be key!

you can click and drag the order of the waypoint addresses, put them in the sequence that you want to.

Did you try this on your bike? I tried after seeing your comment and couldn't get that to work. I have the road glide standard. Hoping for a fix soon.

That was the final nail in the coffin and not getting the gps update. I have an old Garmin in for emergencies that shows clouds too.

There are still some AI boxes out there that will give you Android Auto but the Embedded is the only option with just an Android phone.

I will say once you have it connected you will likely have to manually connect it through the WIFI menu each OR turn the hotspot off / on via your phone each time you get on the bike. I have had very little luck with it connecting on its own.

Wow what an eye-opener. Thank you so much for this informative video. I can see the Harley nav is not for me at this time. What are your thoughts on phone navigation in remote areas where there may not be a signal? Me and my riding buddies are planning another Colorado ride through areas like Gateway, Naturita and the Million Dollar highway, etc. Often there’s no cell signal so I’m assuming the phone nav would not work until a tower is acquired. What are your thoughts this subject? I am thoroughly enjoying your channel and have subscribed!
Ah yes, well your best option is to download the maps for the area while you have signal. Apple Maps now allow for this and most ride planner type of apps support this. Otherwise the HD system would work for remote areas being GPS based with downloaded maps but it just may lock up or the roads might disappear.
@@ITFZone I hope you do an update on this video over the next year or so to see if any of the "gremlins" you've identified have actually been sorted out by Harley. Based on my past experience with Harley, it will probably be a slow process, especially because of the 3rd party involved that has probably developed the software. It's such a shame because it has so much potential. I'm struggling with UA-cam because when I want to see your response to a question, I need to go my video history and find the video, then look for my comment to see your response. I don't know what they did, but my email preferences are checked in my settings to receive an email when a UA-cam channel posts a response. It used to work but not anymore.

I do suspect a SkyLine OS update, hopefully yet this year but if not with the 2025 releases. We know the limited models are coming over to the new screen in 2025 and if the navigation isn't improved they will disappoint the limited buyer for sure!
I’m looking for some slip on mufflers from Harley as I’ve always installed screaming eagle street cannons. But this year Harley says only the new “titanium” slip ons will fit my 2024 street glide. Of course then I need an ECM update and air filter upgrade. Not sure what’s going on because this is only the case on 2024 street and road glides. The Harley parts department says I can use aftermarket or Harley slip ons no problem as long as I don’t change the stock air filter. I only want better sound as I’m happy with the performance. So Harley says no but the parts guy says yes. I have noticed on some UA-cam muffler installs that the 2024 pipes are a different diameter on each side which I don’t recall on my 2009 street glide. I have to say it’s been very difficult to get consistent answers and sometimes no answer at all. Mainly I don’t want to create a fuel mixture issue or worse, a warranty issue. 🤷🏼♂️
Always confusion with mufflers so here is my response. The catalytic converter is in the head pipe and anything after that will have very little impact on AFR (air fuel ratio). The head pipe size/shape has not changed since 2017. So you can use any slip on model from 17 on including the Street Canons as far as I know. The ECM will adjust to keep the motor as close to the EPA AFR so just the muffler alone will be safe. Adding the air cleaner will lean the mixture but in my opinion the ECM will still adjust. Now without a tune you are not likely getting the best performance possible with the air cleaner change. I have left my CVO completely stock thus far. The 121 being so new and frankly I am not overly disappointed with the sound I have left it as is. But I do have a header pipe and thoughts of a bit more bark so I may yet modify. Try a muffler of your choice, air cleaner maybe hold on and see what you think.

Mine has been buggy as hell. used yesterday and it was stuck 1/4 the way into the ride. Nav was locked up. pulled over and let sit for 3-4 minutes, still didn't work. ended up pulling main fuse to get it working again. VERY.. VERY buggy so far.
Your experience is equal to mine. Can / will they fix it!

Hello! Sorry for the delay in response, I took some time this weekend to see if I could figure this out and really I could not find an option. The new system just doesn't support Way Points. However the workaround I came up with was to record a ride and then immediately stop the recording. This would default the name to the GPS location. Otherwise if you use a smartphone and open the HD Ride App you could add a Way Point when you are at the building to your current route and then re-upload the modified ride, this I think is the best option and in the end will give you a stored ride with this location.
ride planner isn't as easy as google maps. saved maps don't always transfer to bike. never reroutes, U-turn to missed way point. takes maybe 40 secs to couple minutes to load gps after starting bike. does not always remember to go to gps and continue route. if music and gps are started at same time it flickers audio/video. map has froze several times. details are sparse at best and disappear at times. Current on updates. overall worth all $350👎. But its still the lesser pain than the android auto fix.

I find the factory nav unusable. Can’t find me, forgets where I am, etc. I also don’t know how to choose twisties instead of highways. So I’m just using Apple Maps.
You can tell it to avoid highways under its settings but I don't disagree it is really too buggy to rely on at all. Looks great on the screen but that's about it currently.
Wouldn't it be better & easier to just use Waze or Google Maps for navigation and save your routes in those apps?
This would be my recommendation! Especially if you are a CarPlay user. BUT if we had something specific for motorcycles that worked it would look great on that big screen.
Please note, the system requires 5Ghz hotspot. This is different than 5G network. Im using 4g and it "works". Still dont much like it, my 19 was much better nav
Correct 5ghz band to the bike but from there out its whatever you can get. Agree the Boom system in the end is better than this system for navigation.
Why do my saved rides show as locked and won't let me send to the bike?

Do you know if the weather overlay is live while the bike is moving? I've read where some people say the weather doesn't change once the bike is moving.
I haven't been able to engage it while moving, but hoping I missed something.
It is to update as you ride. It truly would depend on your hotspot being connected and the quality of internet speed. BUT it is cloud based and laggy for sure.
Is there a way to get a 2d map?
Well, really no. You can turn off 3D buildings and if you zoom out it will go to a 2d view. But there is no way to force 2D only.

@@quiettime6871 I get it. If you rely on navigation this one falls short. My only suggestion is consider an older iPhone that supports a SIM card without service. Then just move your SIM Card from your Android phone over to the iphone when you need it for navigation.
The Harley navigation system is just rubbish, even the 'bird view' is missing.
The cards are on by default on my CVO street glide, but I wouldn't spend a dollar on it if this stops after 3 years.
I installed my TomTom 550 and it works perfectly. Even with other settings, the set values do not remain fixed but expire, which is very bad for a motorcycle in these price ranges, unworthy of Harley.

You are correct again. New NAV not that great. We have not opt'd to activate it on our new Road Glide. Good video again, except your destination. Mile High Harley - Parker has one of the worst service and sales managers in Colorado. Robbie, Parker's GM is great, but he seems to be stick with these two losers.
I followed Tom in Parts and Rich in sales from Rocky Mountain to MHD Parker. Some of the names have changed recently and I have had a great experience through my CVO purchase. Dealers that can advocate for riders especially with these new bikes are going to be key!

There is hope the software will catch up as with the Boom System but I cannot disagree opting to charge for this product that to me is not fully ready for riders is a fail.
