    Got the maedhawk, battery tender, and gerbing cord from your amazon links in today. Plugged in and works awesome! Thank you for saving me headaches trying to figure this out. Now have apple carplay on my New CVO RG ST thanks to your video. Also checked my zip ties for the wire harness to the rear under the left side cover and both were in place. Hello, this P&A plug has 3 wires, ground and 2 power. Yes it could be used for a heated seat type of accessory. I will call out that some vendors are using it to power a headset adapter as I am in this video with the heated gear connector, HOWEVER one thing to note, this plug loses power when start the bike. Just while the bike cranks which can upset the headset connection to the bike if you had your bike on but not started. Just a call out for this use.

    This is another example of HD going backwards with the 24 model.
    My 19 RGS has the USB-A connector in the right hand cubby hole, this is where I plug my memory stick with all my music. Under the right hand cubby hole is a cigarette lighter power outlet, normally I have a 2 port USB-A adapter there where I can charge actually 2 phones with keeping them dry in my right cubby hole, or take the USB adapter out and plug my tire pump in.
    Im guessing when I get a 24 later this year Im gonna have to get my drill out and mount a permanent output socket somewhere.

    • @ITFZone

      I think a good option is to run the battery tender from the heated gear to the front under the tank. This would give you a powered USBA a port up front that you could split into more than one port. Since you have a full 12V to work with it will easily split into multiple ports. As far as mounting I really thing a handlebar mount USB splitter would work well. The other option is to find 12V in the fairing, like from the AMP. Harley could easily have Rockford Fosgate give us powered usb port off the amp into the left cubby on a RG or 2 ports in the SG tray!

    THANK YOU!!!! Excellent content you are providing. Please keep up the good work. I thought I'd throw in my 2¢ about cutting the cable off of the MAEDHawk Headset Adapter. I'm probably in the minority here (with everyone using wireless connectivity these days) but I wanted to use my WIRED earbuds to just listen to music. But of course there isn't anywhere to plug in a standard 3.5 (1/8") stereo connector. So I used the cable on the MAEDHawk with a 3.5 female to female turnaround adaptor and BINGO!! You now have a place to connect a WIRED headset.
    DISCLAIMER... (and as you have also said) I AM NOT ENDORSING BEING ATTACHED TO THE MOTORCYCLE FOR SAFTEY REASONS. But this works for me. (And the fact of the matter is... how is it any different then having your heated gear (jackets, gloves, etc...) connected to the accessory ports that Harley Davidson already provides?)

    I really like the Gerbing solution you found. I can use that cable plus the battery tender usb adapter to power my Maedhawk Bluetooth using the heated gear adapter as you have shown. I’m think I really should add a fuse in that line since it appears the Harley heated gear cord is not fused (I assume). I have Tourmaster heated gear and a fuse is part of the connection provided with the gear. I don’t see any fuse on the bike labeled for the heated gear cable. In fact, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of fuses on my 2024 Street Glide.

    • @ITFZone
      @ITFZone  2 місяці тому

      Fuse is not a bad idea but adds to your amount of cords. In theory if the adapter shorted it wouldn't draw enough to create a fire hazard BUT I for sure don't disagree in the safety aspect of using a fuse. The heated gear is fused at the block. You are correct there are way less connectors and fuses with the new harness but MANY electrical issues with these new bike. Mostly to do with how the harness is secured to the bike.

    • @baggerrider8073
      @baggerrider8073 Місяць тому +1

      @@ITFZone in looking at the fuse information in the owner’s manual, I don’t see a fuse labeled for the heated gear plugs. Is there a fuse and I’m missing it? The reason I ask is I plan on using my heated gear and want to make sure I do or don’t need to include a line fuse, which I do have if needed. I don’t yet have the service manual that probably has an electrical schematic. Is that where you found the info about the heated gear plugs being fused to the block? I suppose I should break down and buy the service manual.

      @@ITFZone Thanks very much. I really appreciate the information. My heated gear uses a 15 amp fuse so I’ll need to use it for the gear connection and the Maedhawk Bluetooth. But like you mentioned earlier, the Maedhawk does not have much of a draw. With winter temps coming, I thought I’d have a connection ready for it since I already have the heated under-jacket and gloves. I’ve actually used them at around 25 degrees and was quite toasty with the heated gear, leather jacket and leather chaps.

    Additionally, the USB-C port indicates 100W, which should be for power output and supports fast charging, while the USB-A port is only for data transfer, and using it for charging would have little effect, just keeping the device from shutting down.

    • @ITFZone
      @ITFZone  2 місяці тому

      Hello! The trick is that you need to convert from SAE to USB and currently this is only offered as SAE to USB A and not C. The headset adapter is also currently only offered as USB A so for a headset option this works out as in the video. However if you want to use this port to charge something that is USB C you would have to use an A to C adapter, you will for sure still have enough watts and amps to charge a phone with the adapter. Hello! I suspect you are running into an amperage issue. The factory USB just does not have enough power behind it to successfully split with enough amps at each port to charge devices. You are probably getting .5 an amp on the other 2 ports. The option is to run something off of the battery but you would want a switched option. You might look at tapping an accessory fuse, look for the P&A label on the fust block and use something like this: amzn.to/3XSWf3x and then use the SAE to USB adapter in my video.

    • @ITFZone
      @ITFZone  13 днів тому

      Hello! So there is no way to change your phone AND use a thumb drive for music. Unless you want to add a USB Power only option for charging your phone as I showed in this video. Only the 1 USB C port in the cubby supports data and you cannot split it into 2 data input sources and there is not enough power to split it for your thumb drive and charge your phone. SO if you plan to use a phone mount I would consider a mount that charges the phone and connects to the battery. Otherwise you can use the products in this video and run the battery tender extender to the front under the tank to give you a 2nd USB charging option. Might be easier to go over it via a phone call. Just so you know. Most phones can charge at 12V as well, 5V, 9v, 15V, and even 20v (20V is rare, but some can). But you still would need a charge controller for the phone to communicate with to get the proper voltage at the proper time.

      I agree with @quitetime6871 BUT on the '23.5's the bike does not charge when the ignition is on, so I think your question is will it provide power out with the ignition on and I must say I didn't test this! But I will later today and update this post! Good catch!

    • @ITFZone
      @ITFZone  7 місяців тому

      Answer, it does not for a '23.5! I would bet it does on a'24. But as @quiettime6871 pointed out using the tender lead on either model will drain the battery with the ignition off.

    That's exactly what I did to be able to play music on my USB stick and charge my phone.

      Yes the idea of using a thumb drive for stored music is brilliant!

    You seem to be the only person that gives a 'D about researching what any P.O.'d '24 owner really wants to know, (To use their $30K bike in they way they (paid for, and) should be able to) that they just can't google, or ask HD expecting an Honest, sincere answer. Obviously HD isn't the company that sold bikes to hard working blue collar people (honestly) that they used to be. If I pay for a giant screen, you should let me use it how "I" see fit, since I paid the price for the Tech (not being told that, you can't use your $500 a month bike the same way you can, Any New Car, that cost's 1/2 as much!). Cheers to you! They already make profit for that display and cheap speakers, why rip customers off and expect them to keep coming back, or recommending their product. They could sell that bike without a radio but with the cut outs like all cars did back in the 50's 60's 70's 80's.

      Hey! I feel you! This a giant leap for Harley into technology which may of us were hoping for but are they ready to support it? I am happy to help as much of these advancements are what we have been looking for!

    • @nickpapagiorgio8038
      @nickpapagiorgio8038 5 місяців тому +1

      That seems a little short-sighted on your part blaming Harley for knowing exactly what YOU want. Meanwhile there are a ton of other riders who can't stand the tech complaining that there's too much tech. So why are you right and all those others are wrong? Maybe the company is trying to strike a happy medium.

      @@nickpapagiorgio8038 I think with this bike Harley dove into the tech on the deep end of the pool but also into the complexity of supporting it. I am just helping riders with the bugs and with solutions to what they are trying to accomplish. The hope is Harley will pay attention and adapt. I can appreciate what Harley is up against but frankly they asked for it with this bikes technology. I think the hope is the execution would have been better.

    What about a usb charger direct hook up to battery with USB and USB-C port and a blue tooth headset dongle? Phone is cubby hole on USB-C

    • @ITFZone
      @ITFZone  Місяць тому

      Hello! Direct to battery is a constant drain, so something you would need to manage. These new bikes are so sensitive to the charge of the battery. Stay tuned I have a new option coming but the heated gear option works well if you don’t need both connections.
