    Joel is awesome. Started Eat to Live 10 years ago. Today at 52 I'm in elite condition. This morning my waist measured 29 inches with a tape measure. My energy is through the roof did 100 burpees and 1000 pushups yesterday yes 1000! Not sore at all my recovery is through the roof! Great to see someone as passionate as Dr. Fuhrman. I have a window cleaning business and plan on never retiring. What Joel teaches is confirmed in the Blue Zones... Thank you Joel. David Iseley from Oklahoma.

    Dr Furhman is so right, and what he says is backed up by the latest research. "Eat to Live" has changed my life since I came across it about four years ago, and reversed my diverticulosis (provable with colonoscopy reports). Lots of exercise too has helped. I'm 70 and not on any medications.

      Don't be upset. I've been eating keto as a way of life since 2017 and I've never felt better, so much more energetic and healthier. Joel Fuhrman says a lot about eating low glycemic which is good, but from what I've read from Gary Taubes and many others keto is better.

I'm mostly whole food plant based and I need to add more greens, but since starting the transition I have lost weight without trying and improved muscle strength without a consistent exercise routine. I plan on being an example and hopefully I can show them a better way. Beans and lentils rock!

    Terrific message there from Dr. Furhrman! I sure wish my family would believe me when I try to pass this news onto them. We have almost zero common views about big picture things in life though, and they write me off quick and appeal to tradition, and I also think to what their perspective of masculinity is. It's quite unfortunate. One of my brothers just lost 50 lbs AGAIN doing Keto (had gained it all back), and he overlooks the side effects and totally believes the lies his side promotes about high fat and cholesterol intake being total fine. This is even with a diagnosis of a fatty liver. "Avoid fruits" though he says. Whew, it discourages me.

    He is so right! Some of these UA-camrs have carnivore diets that they strictly do and it’s not healthy! They are giving the people what watch their channels the wrong information. Little by little they are getting sick with their bodies and don’t even know it with high cholesterol and diabetes and high blood pressure. They are in for a wake up call if they don’t change the way they eat now. I know someone on a channel who’s like eating carnivore like crazy but she is hurting herself and her way of life. The older you get you have to stop eating the way you did like 20-30 years ago. While your age your body acts differently to foods. Like me for example. If I eat dairy I get calcific tendinitis. With meat like hamburgers or hotdogs or ect my stomach gets bloated and gassy and bathroom visits.

    • @down-the-rabbit-hole
      @down-the-rabbit-hole 2 роки тому +2

      You are wrong there. There are countless testimonials from carnivores of diabetes being reversed, inflammation and joint pain being reversed and the list goes on and on. And many of these people have been doing carnivore for 5 to 10 and even more years. Some are in their 70's and 80s etc... It got rid of my diabetes when my doctor was telling me, "just eat balanced meals" boy was he wrong! That didn't help me at all and actually made my symptoms worse. Carnivore is the only diet that's helped me and made me feel great......................

    Dr fuhrman looks like a guy better to trust than for example Dr McDugall, also in the plant based sphere... his fear of even some nuts and seeds (fats) is concerning... he's saying all fat is bad, but look at him and his wife... no, i'll go with fuhrman on this. Fuhrman is still not saying LOAD UP on fat... he's saying, get some good fats from some nuts and seeds: different story.

    I tried a diet very similar to the nutritarian diet several years ago because of a specific diagnosis which ultimately turned out to be incorrect. That diet was essentially a vegetarian diet, but with more restrictions. I have always had problems maintaining my weight, and gaining weight. On this diet, the problem greatly intensified. Not only could I not gain wait, I simply could not maintain it. I looked gaunt and undernourished; my friends and family swore I had a terminal disease I was not telling them about. Furthermore, I was miserable as I could not eat the foods I enjoyed. Although the nutritarian diet may be very good for you, I suspect it is very much like the diet I was on, simply unsustainable in the long term.

    How does this diet help/hinder a male body builder? Seems most body builders "natural, not enhanced or taking drugs" eat lots of animal proteins/products. I've looked at these guys and at athletic gymnast types, and they seem to all have a propensity to eat a lot of animal protein. A few seem to get the major part of their proteins from Yellow Pea Isolate.
    What a lot of them say in private is "have you ever seen a strength athlete from Asian countries become world class weight lifters or strongmen?" Plant based diets just don't allow someone to build the muscle mass necessary for strength sports.
    I'm using weight lifting and cardio "bicycle intervals and some road rides" and calisthenics/sand bags/body weight exercises to stay in shape.
    I'm using a mixture of the diet things I've mentioned above, that seem to work out real nice for me. Trying to figure out if I'm headed in a good or not so good diet. Retired big city Fire Dept, 71YO. Thanks

      @patrickokeeffe4787 2 роки тому +7

      Well the important point to note here is that the video above is about eating for health and living a long life...its not about eating to be successful in a strength or bodybuilding sport. If you just want eat to live a long and trouble free life and look good....you don't need to be Eddie Hall strong or have a Ronnie Coleman physique. But if you are eating to be competitive in a sport like strength or bodybuilding, then you will have to consume all sorts of stuff to excess and train in such an extreme way too that might not be beneficial for your body long term.
      I train with kettlebells for general health and I watched a video by two experts recently who said that for general health and preparedness, you want to be able to clean and press 2 x 24kg kettlebells overhead as a minumum standard. Really?....I'm 60 years old and outside of lifting stuff in the gym, I don't think life has thrown up anything in all that time for me to lift no more than 20kg off a floor....let alone 48kgs overhead. And I certainly don't need to be deadlifting huge numbers to live a normal life. Most people don't need to lift a fraction of what they are lifting in the gym to meet everyday life and a plant base diet will definitely get you by if you and just realistically exercising for general health.

      @@patrickokeeffe4787 And exactly what makes YOU a health and nutrition expert? And why would anyone, "just want to get by" regarding their personal health and nutrition? And thanks for showing you know nothing about bodybuilding or sports training as an activity for health. And the post was about NATURAL bodybuilding for health, and you bring up two drug loaded using bodybuilders to try to prove a weak point.

    • @mitkoogrozev
      @mitkoogrozev 2 роки тому +3

      Most athletes and bodybuilders take protein and creatine powders , even if they're not gigantic muscle monsters, and irrespective of if they're vegan or not. The problem is not getting your protein, that's easy enough. Pretty much no difference in quantity and availability between plant and animal protein in foods. The thing is in plant foods you generally have much more water and things like fiber, so you have to eat a higher volume. But like the other commenter mentioned, this doctor and many others talk about health. If you eat large amounts of animal protein among other animal products, you sacrifice long term health to be able to do some competitions. Still there are plenty of muscle monsters that eat plant based diets, and in the long term the older you get, the more the plant based people will outcompete the meat eaters (more endurance, better recovery due to the rich anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant compounds in plant foods, better cardio-vascular health and so on). So if you care about long term health, you don't have to worry about if you can become a muscle monster world class strongmen . Those people are not a model of health. They're just a model of how much you can push the human body before it fails sooner rather than later.

    • @glennbishopbishthemagish
      @glennbishopbishthemagish 2 роки тому +1

      @@mitkoogrozev Are talking about today? Are you talking about professional bodybuilders that enter contests? And exactly where is your proof that your muscle monsters on a plant based diet are not on steroids? As of yet, there has never been a vegan Mr Universe, or a Vegan Mr Olympia. Where is your proof? Before bodybuilding became a sport or the sideshow that it is today, EVERYONE in bodybuilding and weight lifting ate a large amount of meat, some it was meat eggs, raw milk, raw goats milk and some did not take supplements.

    • @mitkoogrozev
      @mitkoogrozev 2 роки тому

      @@glennbishopbishthemagish Not sure what you're on about. Why do I need vegan Mr Universe or Olympia?
      For one, people adopting a plant based diet wider and wider in these areas is a new thing so you'll have to wait a bit until you get mr Olympias , if someone is willing to ruin their health to get there because the current bodybuilder standards are whack. And everyone that big takes steroids or other 'enchancers' irrespective of diet so not sure why mention that either, since the steroids is what allows them the massive size, not that they ate meat , eggs and milk. You can eat mostly shitty junk food in large quantities, train hard and take steroids and you can become huge as well.
