    Thanks a lot for reminding us to pay attention to our language and good manners in communication with others. It is good to know and react properly, how to say - Sorry, I put my foot in it, Pardon my French etc. when it happens that you accidentally cross the line in conversation with someone...

    Hey, my teacher Leila, I'm not a native speaker, I'm Chinese. I've been in different videos, but I do enjoy your video most, because you're a brilliant teacher, your pronuncition is amazing, you correct my pronunciation that I pronounced wrong before.Today the lesson is about POLITE ENGLISH. It jogs my memory of insult. You know what, I was insulted by a clearly small minded Englishman, he called me stupid, and said to me, 'You can't make the point, your English is rubbish.' My attitude towards English people was different. You know, English is universal language, it's not their language, it belongs to people all over the world. English is not an art to be mastered, it's a tool to use to get a result of communication. He had no idea what road I took to get to where I am at. He is nobody to judge my English skill, right? You know, a clear pronunciation and perfect grammar is the key to better English. 'NATIVE' is not the word in my dictionary, it's not my true goal. I hate nothing more than hearing the term speak like a native speaker. My goal is to be able to communicate with confidence as a speaker and as a patient listener. I understand what bring to the table as a non native speaker is a gift, an advantage. I'm the NEW SPEAKER of English. Thanks so much. Have a wonderful week. Bye for now. I'll see you next time in the next video.

    Excuse/Pardon my French ☺ it is interesting that Poles call cursing/swearing a 'Latin' 🤔 so we say 'Excuse/Pardon my Latin', which we literally say 'Przepraszam/Sorry za moją Łacinę" 😆 Maybe because we bordered with the Holy Roman Empire for ages 😊
    As for 'Cross a line', we also say so, however we refer to a border rather than to a line, which means the same either way 🤗 we say 'przekroczyć granicę' (literally to cross a border).
    Leila, great lesson 💕🇬🇧☀️

  • @alicerossi_ap

    Very very interesting video, thanks a lot Leila 👍 .....I'm thinking.......what a weird thing .....even in my language (Italian) it's often used to say, when some swear word comes out (accidentally or not 😉) "excuse my French/my Frenchness".... I wonder why 🤔 I'm going to find out (I'm curious 🤗).
    Last thing, could I ask you what accent do you have? I really like it, it sounds to me quite clear and precise. Thank you again for your lesson.

    • @alicerossi_ap
      @alicerossi_ap 5 років тому +4

      I think I found out why! The words in French are usually considered to be elegant and refined, therefore using this expression we make (or do? 🤔) self-irony being aware that a swear word is certainly not an elegant and refined word..... actually it's, indirectly, a compliment to the French language 😃

    Sometimes when answering questions, I speak out of turn but I'm trying hard not to overstep the mark and respect other students' rights.
    My teacher warns us not to speak out of turn. He likes respecting each other's rights .
    I am used to speaking out of turn but the last time I did that ,the new teacher asked me to go out of the class and prevented me from attending his class all over the year. I regret speaking out of turn. Speaking out of turn is bloody bad . Atrocious! Disgusting! Speaking out of turn
    Speaking out of turn! Avoid that,dear. Respect other people . Love you.
    He spoke out of turn at the conference and told all the people he loved her. What a great speak -out -of-turn.
    Although speaking out of turn is sometimes harmful. I don't shut my mouth when listening to injustice. I can't be silent when oppressing people. I'm here to help people who can't take their rights

    Gorgeous video!! Now, sorry for the tome.. but I just wanted to put them into practice. Thanks!
    I was just walking on the street with my mum while she was giving me a lot of stick for swearing, and making notorious emphasis on MINDING MY PS AND QS , when we bumped into some friend of hers. At first everything was kind of alright, her friend turned out a wee bit offensive when speaking, she was bringing up unpleasant stuff, you know, BOWING AND SCRAPING endlessly, even OVERSTEPPING THE MARK. My mum's so good-hearted though, so she didn't give a monkey's about that till she PUT HER FOOT IN IT by accident: "Oh, it looks like someone is expecting a baby, doesn't it, Evie?" - That was certainly a turning point in the conversation. "Are bloody taking the pi*s?" The so-called friend replied. I was so bewildered and couldn't help saying: "PARDON MY FRENCH ma'am but this is fuc*ing hilarious!". No sooner had I said that than my mother, looking petrified, shouted at me: "MIND YOUR LANGUAGE!!!". As you might've figured out already, that was obvs the end of the conversation... with her friend, since my mother really wanted to sort out a couple of things with me. "Your father and I have brought you up so you behave your self and don't SPEAK OUT OF TURN, let alone if it's to a stranger who doing so IS THE DONE THING with." I right off the bat replie her friend was OUT OF ORDER in the first place, but then I acknowledge that I shouldn't have being so rude and CROSSED THE LINE.

      Great, great! I Love English with Leila & Sabrah. And if you can some not so polite English idioms too.
      I wanna use them!
      Last time I had been rebuked by my boss, it was nothing major just some infinitesimal case.
      She told me; listen, man, did you finish high school?
      Of course, I said to her sincerely. I have got a master degree from uni.
      She took a deep breath, I saw her boobs got twice larger as she replied. Maybe somewhere you just got it where no one can speak a word in English.
      That's right, I had to agree with her.
      In my country, if someone had spoken English is not between the living anymore.
      She turned six and disappeared for a week or so. I put my foot on her mouth, did I? She's a goofball, isn't it?

    Hey Mrs laila
    Could you please explain the functions or uses of word"apart"...it's really confusing for me and thank you for everything.

    • @LoveEnglishwithLeilaSabrah
      @LoveEnglishwithLeilaSabrah  5 років тому +1

      Apart-means to be separate. We live apart or he took the tv apart, he separated it. Does that help? 💕😊

I'm just a copy cat because I don't know the proper ABC of english because I'm trying to learn this language following your instructions. I just request you ma'am pls give some examples of sentences of that word which you want to make us understand.
    Thank you very much ma'am

      If you tell someone to mind their ps and qs, you are telling them to be careful how they behave, to be very polite. Does that help? 💕😊
