Adding Trees and Ferns to the Logging Railroad
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 чер 2021
- This week the logging railroad starts looking like a LOGGING RAILROAD!! We are adding trees, plants, and ferns. AND roots!!
We also are heading to Antelope Island in the middle of what was the Great Salt Lake. Now just a salt flat... Mostly for fun but also to get ideas for the marchland on the logging railroad. Including a great fallen tree.
We have acquired about 30 pine trees from Steve Strebel made by Al Badham and now surplus from Steve's layout as he is taking it apart. We also had 3 trees made for us by Al that were already installed on the logging railroad.
We are also using cheap Chinese scale palm trees as ferns! Just pop the tops off and repaint.
And Woodland Scenics ground foam over odd little rubber "plants" from Walmart.

Thanks Karyn you had me rolling with laughter with your quips .
Thanks again!! She cracks us all up.
never a dull moment with you two.
There’s a whole lotta work goin’ on here! It sure looks great folks! Thanks again for bringing us along! God bless!🇺🇸
Liked video 👍🌲
Thanks
Just a stellar, natural appearing landscape. All of it blends so nicely together. Summation of wonderful touches,
Thanks!!! Now to pour water and take it apart and hang it on the wall. Oh and finish the backdrop
@@ToyManTelevision I will expect fish in the water, and maybe a tadpoll or two!!!!
Lots of great solutions. Thank you.
Interesting and informative as always. Layout is looking great 👍!
Thanks
Thats some pretty cool detail!! Can't wait for the layout to be filled with trees... also a little moss on some of the trees would make some great detail
Pouring water. So far looks great!
@@ToyManTelevision cant wait to see the first official train run on the layout!!!
Thank you not only informative but extremely entertaining. Sunday morning is complete. You guys are great.
Thanks again for watching!!!!!! Pouring water. Then the building part is finished. Well until it’s up on the wall and doing touch ups.
Lubricated roots! Love it. Looks great, looks real👍✌️😊🙏🏼🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Wow! So cool! 👍👍
very good info.... and some very good humor too. 👍 Remember to keep your tool clean🤣
It is looking really great. It is amazing adding trees and foliage makes a big difference. It becomes life like but in miniature. Adding the water resin will make it even more realistic. I learn to cover my water resin with cardboard or paper to keep dust from settling on the surface as it cures over night. Getting air bubbles out can be a challenge too. Can't wait to see it finished. Good luck with the water features. Be safe and looking forward to Tuesday.👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
One word, WOW!!! Very impressive guys. Love the details.
My precursor of Sunday mornings Coffee & a good attitude brought on by you two. Slip sliding auh away ...:-)
Coffee and UA-cam. It’s the brave new world. I’ll bet in 20 years it will be coffee and.....
Love the ferns and the tree stumps look good, I've had some success making stumps by sawing larger tree roots in half giving you a flat foot surface to the layout with top roots above...
Where i live the logging industry was huge and for a time New Hampshire had most of its trees taken away and replaced with miles of stumps. You should add loggers eyeing al's trees as posable lumber for some fun and realism. You could even add a log loading platform! Make two stumps with a log across the two stumps being held in place by a notch in the stump. Then have logs leaned up against the other log on the stumps to create a ramp. Place the ramp parallel to the track with some workers with poals and roap to roal the logs up the ramp and on to the cars. There are plenty of videos on UA-cam of logs being loaded onto trains to act as inspiration.
Excellent job. Thanks for the tips on the plants.
Enjoyed the new update.
That automotive primer always seems to work well on vinyls and plastics. I do interior automotive work and use it when I repaint trim pieces and stuff and alot of it is vinyl and plastic. Great video thanks for sharing. Have a great week guys.
Dale and Karyn: You mentioned Red Green in your narrative and the TV show of the same name which was produced in Toronto, Ontario. I had an opportunity to meet the actor, who played the part of Red Green (I believe the actor created the persona), Steve Smith. He was appearing as a character representing a company, who manufactured DUCTTAPE, at an ACE Hardware store, here in Fort Wayne, IN. approximately 15 to 17 years ago. He was standing around the Duct tape display and was having pictures taken with the onlookers. I said, hi Mr. Smith, is life still treating you well? He replied, it could be a little better, but he really wasn't complaining. A couple of years later, he retired to South Florida. Since I've seen him twice doing his one-man shows here in the Fort, but I believe he's retired from those as well. By the way, that raspy voice you would always hear, was something he added as a part of his 'shtick'. It wasn't that way when out of character.
That was some amazing “pre UA-cam home made TV”. A great inspiration. I tried a goofy voice on videos in the 80’s but it didn’t work well. Smith nailed it.. but I wonder if years later he regretted it. I’ll bet it became a bit of an annoyance for him. Anyway he nailed it. Great show!
That's so fantastic,I am using some of these ideas on my layout .... By the way a neat food and wine place about thirty minutes away is called "Down The Rabbit Hole" a real treat 👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
Nice work! Its coming along really great! Good job!
Thanks. Pouring water. Omg. So much can go wrong 😑
@@ToyManTelevision Yep lol
Great job and great video. Have a great day!
Nice job! I have definitely got a find me some of those Chinese palm trees. BTW, I gave you a shout out on my channel today due to all this really cool stuff you’ve been doing on your logging layout.
Excellent! You two. How appropriate, I'm wearing my screwing around t-shirt watching you two give 1001 things to do with spray oil advice! Oh,.! My!! The effects you showed were very good. Super watch. Regards Stephen.
Wow coolest!!! We may pour water today. Or shoot a Tuesday show. Or??
Dale, Karyn, Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Regards Stephen.
TREE STUMPS. remember those wood pencils you bought and used for RR ties?? tale the sharpened end and place them point down into the foam scenery base, dress up that cut off end a wee bit and VOILA!. tree stumps! I'll have a video on doing this out pretty soon on my channel. I use the wood pencils for logs on my On30 logging disconnects. they are great!
LOL Pun central at it again. In California the favorate whine is " I Want To Go To Palm Springs " . Another great show you guys, you just keep cracking me up !!!!!!! BUT along with the crazyness there are such good tips that you give !!! Thanks for another great VLOG
Palm Springs? Any hotel is Palm Springs. Palms up! Rather be at Roaring Camp!!
Excellent work. Really coming together
Pouring water today.
Pun-tastic! The scenery is coming along well. The jokes are getting worse!! Lol
My sides hurt!!
yeah Green stuff i work for many years and i feel also good. but you have also Tamiya putty and citadel green stuff but by green stuff world is mine favorite it really reminds on mine old day's :)
Need some yellowed and brown lower fronds. Always a bunch of dead fronds around.
Good plan...
Hey Dale and Kathy, you mentioned you used to make figures with the "Green Stuff", that would be a good tutorial, Inquiring minds want to know!
Fun stuff! You all went off on a bit of tangent there towards the end, lol. Maybe you could dry brush a little grey on the roots and draw the color slightly into the tree to help the transition. Just a thought though your technique is very innovative.
I’m thinking once it’s in place I can really do some touch up. For now the trees need to be removable. But in a few weeks... I still want to be ably to take it apart in a pinch. But not planning to.
“If the women don’t find you handsome, they certainly find you handy.”
So is it duck tape or DUCK!!! tape!!
@@ToyManTelevision Obviously duck tape!!
The Badham Forest? love the look
"The Trouble With Tribbles."
I would say it's coming along quite nicely it's looking really great I bet you got a charge out of using that instead of grass applicator 😂
You might want to install a more efficient exhaust fan in your work area. Sounded like Karyn might've whiffed just a wee bit too much of those Super Glue fumes.
Debussy is nice...
I use cheap aquarium plastic plants
trouble with tribbles
That’s model railroading for ya @#$&
So u have Al’s video on how to make those trees?
O bamboo and cane ar two deferent plans
I’ve been told this is bamboo. Well I’ve been told many things... but I’ve been told this is bamboo
after the layout is done will you be posting running sessions?
Are you going to make a video of huckleberry railroad #464 is getting restored and #152 is up and running
I've done the roads on my layout using cardboard like from cracker boxes and cereal boxes, I got the idea out of a model railroading book that dates back to the 70s; by the way how's your other layout coming along?
Been totally on this one. But looking at the outside part. Sort of a start over out there. Sad. But it’s got problems
Is the video of al making trees online anywhere?
You say “now we have a forest” but I can’t see it.
Check out Hobby Lobby. They sell cut off logs that look like small stumps and cheap.
