I had just finished "Breaking Bad", and was looking for something to try and make up for the vacancy in my heart. I started "Lost", knowing it couldn't compare to Breaking Bad. I went into the show cynically. I was on the fence about continuing the show, and switching to "True Detective". Then this scene happened. I got chills. I cried. It's so beautiful. Michael Giacchino's score helps a ton. But this character, this scene, this performance. It stuck with me. I'm hooked.
I was over-critical of the acting, cinematography, and writing. I'm one of those pretentious film school snobs who thinks he knows a lot. I'm working on it, though. Love the show. Already in the middle of season 2.
The scene of John waking up, finding his legs work & standing & smiling - such a beautiful, perfect juxtaposition against the backdrop of such a horrific accident. Truly one of the best scenes I've ever seen on television.
This was the Locke that we all came to love and admire. What the writers did to this amazing character (and the show for that matter) was not only a complete let down but absolutely unjust. John Locke deserved better. And this scene will forever be how we, his fans and those who he inspired, will warmly remember him.
best character in the show, sawyer just a little behind. I always had sympathy for him so when there was a split between the survivors I always routed for Locke. Jack was just such a bellend.
It's so amazing, in the midst of all chaos, where people are panicking and living their fears and worst moments of their lives, there stands John Locke, living the best moment of his.
this scene made me cry and also made me a lost fan and a john Locke fan. This is probably the best scene from the entire series in my opinion. the music and story this scene tells makes you emotional no matter who you are.
i agree. this episode blew me off and more or less sealed my affections for this brilliant show! walkabout and deus ex machina is easilly the best episodes of season one
That's the same thing that happened to me. I didn't really care much for LOST until Locke got this episode. This was the story that really got me into the show. Locke's story is very inspirational and saddening at the same time.
Agreed. After the pilot this was the first episode where I went ok this show is about so much more than a mysterious island. Every time I watch it I get chills when we flashback to him waking up on the beach. The music by Giacchino doesn't help that either.
john's reward was the most ultimate walkabout of his (life) and before he was going to the other world, he found his permission to walk again for the last time
Lost is happening in real life, you can feel it when you turn on the news and hear lies, when you read earthquake reports, when you listen to the top 40 radio station, when the answer to your child's question "just doesn't feel right", when an old man reflects on everything and still wonders why? When you that religion is only wrong because of the people who tainted it, when a holy book tells us everything happening today 2 1/2 thousand years ago, when you open your eyes... I am a man of faith..
Also when MIB was chasing that kid through the jungle and the kid said to MIB that he can't kill Jacob because it's against the rules, MIB said "Don't tell me what I can't do."
John Locke fuckin wrecked man like lost forever holds a place in my heart I think when Linus killed Locke the producers were like oh fuck what the hell did we do and had to make him the mib just so people Would keep watching lol . top 10 best characters 1Locke 2.Hurley 3.Sawyer 4Linus 5Jack 6.Kate 7.Helen(cuz Locke fucked her) 8.jin 9.you can't have Jim without sun 10.Goku cuz dragon ball z is the second best show
This was the moment. This scene alone is what kept me hooked on the show. I had too see it through to the end

***** I don't know how you could be on the fence after watching the first episode. Nothing has hooked me as quickly as the pilot to this show.
I was over-critical of the acting, cinematography, and writing. I'm one of those pretentious film school snobs who thinks he knows a lot. I'm working on it, though. Love the show. Already in the middle of season 2.
I actually switched over to LOST from season 3 of BB, i just finished LOST so i guess I should switch back.
Back in 2005, this was the scene that showed me just how special Lost was, and is.
I watched LOST first and LOVED it. Later on, I decided to watch Breaking Bad. It's SO BORING. I've been stuck on Season 3 for months now.
Best scene in the whole series... Not gunna lie it brought me to tears

The part where Locke gets up and moves his legs is so fucking perfected by his acting. I have a disabled father who cried when he saw that scene.

Amongst the chaos of screaming victims is John Locke with a little smile on his face...
What is the music? I am enamored with it! I can't find it anywhere! Please, it's so uplifting!
@LightmyWay23 That's how it happens. This is the episode that truly engulfs you.
john's reward was the most ultimate walkabout of his (life) and before he was going to the other world, he found his permission to walk again for the last time
John Locke changed my life lol
I cried when I watched this, considering I've been in the situation where people tell my what I can't do
What, people calling you squeaker
I fucking love this scene
I actually liked season 5 the best, the whole time travel thing was a nice added change to the show. I'm eager to see what they do with season 6.
O and song is calle Locke'd out again
I liked the show before this...but after this episode, I officially loved it. Completely sucked in.

Also when MIB was chasing that kid through the jungle and the kid said to MIB that he can't kill Jacob because it's against the rules, MIB said "Don't tell me what I can't do."

TheOnePistol "Locke'd out again"
At that moment I lost my heart to Lost
Damn straight. :-)
You could see his heart break when the bus drives away.
what is the soundtrack for this part im curious
the first 3 or 4 seasons where incredible. After that the writers seemed to have lost their inspiration. maybe they should go to the island.
anybody know the music 4 this video??
"MY CONDITION IS NOT AN ISSUE"
Lost series should have been called "The rise and fall of John Locke"
Twin Perfect.

Though Season 4-onward he became stupid(they never learn to gag ben's mouth do they).
I knew he was paralyzed at the beginning of the episode when he was moving his toe.
