    I wish I knew someone I could trust to do this for me. I have a 2007 1500 classic LT 4x4 with a 4.8l. It has 213,000 miles on it and its starting to struggle. My wife bought it for me in 2008 from Carmax with 14,000 on it for $15,000. It looked like it had just came off the assembly line. Carmax did a great job on the detail. Not a speck of dust or oil anywhere. Im looking at a 2023 GMC for $60,000 but id rather put some of that money into rebuilding like what you. Either way love what you did for her.

    Did you consider rings and a hone job on the cylinders with that many miles? How did bottom end bearings look?

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  2 місяці тому +1

      I didn’t even consider it. Even though I know I should’ve done it. Cam bearings looked really good. Didn’t even look at the bottom end. Just closed my eyes and sent it. It’s got 12k miles on it running better than ever👍🏻

    Hey man currently putting this cam in my lq4, were you happy with the mail order tune? Did you have to send it back for touch ups at all?

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  6 місяців тому +2

      I was happy enough I guess haha, the truck runs great and hasn’t given my any problems but make sure you check the box to lower the temp to turn your fans on if you have electric fans. I didn’t know what that meant so my fans don’t come out till 225 and the truck is heat soaked by then that’s way too hot. And if I want it changed I have to pay and send it all the way back to him. But the tune itself has been great

    Planning on doing the same cam kit on my 09 Silverado... Yours looks and sounds AWSOME Man!! How maney miles on the truck when you did this to it?? Jus wundering if I shud with 181k, still runs great an engine is strong, i take great care of it, I'm thinking it will fresh'n it up and miles wont matter but not sure? Thoughts... Jon

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  2 місяці тому

      You’re 100% correct. My truck had 230k when I pulled the motor out. It now has 240k with the cam and everything and it freshened it up a lot. The thing runs like a new motor even though my block and pistons and bearings all have 240k😂

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  2 місяці тому +1

      I think your truck has a single bolt cam. I did a cam on my nephews 2010 and it did. I highly recommend you spend a little extra and get a 3 bolt cam conversion kit when you do it. It’s worth it. It took me 2 days to line up that stupid single bolt cam with the dowel pin. Just look into it!

    • @jonnyfizzCMF
      @jonnyfizzCMF 2 місяці тому

      @@harleystillwell7519 Will do thanks for answering, and I seen urs had 230k on it so I'm feeling good about it. I've watched a ton of videos on the 5.3 looks pretty strait forward and I like that chupacabra kit for the $ and do the DOD AFM delete, right now I've got a Diablo obd chip plugged in so it stays in V8 mode RC leveling shocks n N3s and RC intake.. has better throttle response but cant wait to here it Chopp'n. Work in progress. Thnkx and Again Sick Truck Man!!

    Got a 2007 5.3 Tahoe I’m doing this right now. How will I know if I should mess with my rings and pistons?? It wasent smoking before I tore it down

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  3 місяці тому

      Mine has 230k when I pulled it. I didn’t touch any bearings and left the pistons in and everything’s great. Mine wasn’t smoking either so I just took the risk. You could pull a bearing cap off the crankshaft and inspect them and look for deep scoring on the piston walls. Other than that I’m not sure what else you could do. You could do a compression test if you wanted too I guess that would tell you

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  8 місяців тому +1

      About the same as stock honestly. My truck has 3.42 gears so it always has sucked towing to be honest. And after the tuner messed with my trans it feels a little worse. But I pull a trailer multiple times a week and it’s not a huge change by any means!
