Had Highland Park cask strength over Christmas with my brother. It blew me away, it's well rounded and delicious. I'm not even a huge scotch guy but I'll be grabbing a bottle next time I see one.

Another Sherry + Peat option would be the Laphroaig Triple Wood. 48% peated whisky finished in Sherry Butts.

Have you guys tried the highland park single cask series and how do you compare it to the cask strength?
Cheers! Happy New Year! We discussed the HP Single Cask series a bit in our HP drinkthrough. They can be quite good. Overall, usually much more expensive than the HP Cask Strength, but probably (depending on the cask) a bit better and more intense.

I have seen so many young people grabbing the 818 at the stores, it's painful. They go in to stores asking where it is and many stores have it front and center. The public service announcement from Dillon was needed.

After watching a few different channels, I decided to try peated and malted scotches and whiskies this year. Hated them.
1. Ardbeg. Bandaids. Burnt rubber. Sewage water.
2. Jonnie walker gold. Pencil erasers.
3. Balcones single malt. Dank moss.
4. Oregon spirit rye. Moss, pencil erasers, grass.
Silver lining is a better appreciation for bourbon and Irish whiskey. Cheers!

That being the case… I really liked Dillons story and realized that Dutch said Chestnut Farms. I’d like to share my story from when a Good Samaritan like Dillon wasn’t there to help me. I went in to that wine store for a bottle of Coopers Craft 100 that their ap says is in stock but half the shelves were empty. Sales guy… “ yeah. we got hit hard today but I’m gonna help you out. The best whiskey we have in stock right now is Chestnut Farms. Have you heard of Pappy? Well this is made at their ghost distillery at Barton’s especially for us. Pappy’s grandson has run it for 15 years and makes this exactly the same way his grandfather did. I’ve had multiple different kinds of Pappy vanwinkle and this is exactly like it. You can’t find a better deal than this anywhere. In fact, I’ve sold cases of this today. This is so smooth and delicious. Would you like to taste it?”
he then admitted that 4 or 5 of their bourbons are special offbrands made specifically for the Wine store by other major distillers. So I bought the $55 bottle of chestnut farms and brought it home. Obviously I can’t get my hands on Pappy so I decided to test it against a $23 bottle of Buffalo trace. Same proof, smell, taste, and finish. My reaction… what a rip-off! It’s $23 Buffalo trace in an Eagle rare/EH Taylor bottle with a different picture on the bottle. After some research, the bottle claims to be made at a distillery that doesn’t exist. However the only distiller in the same town as the one listed on the bottle is Barton 1792. Barton is owned by sazerac who owns… the Buffalo trace distillery. And viola… I’ve been scammed. So now sazerac and the wine store in question have lost my business.

For me the worst spirit of the last year is The Rock’s Teremana Reposado. I found it absolutely horrid. And people wanted to love it so bad!
Proper 12 is as terrible as connor mcgregor as a person. Remus 5 is my whiskey of the year. Thought it was blended amazingly well and the availability and price were great. I went through my first bottle very quickly. Completely agree on old fitz tho. Wanted one for a while and once i tried it, theres nothing special about it. Thought it was so disappointing.
Was waiting to c how Dillon's story finished at the end but it kept getting interrupted :(
The Dewar's is tempting but a bit pricey. The 27 and 21 year old's are on my list to try if I can find them in my area. I've had the Highland Park 12 before and really enjoyed it. I'd like to try the Cask Strength sometime.

These guys really earned my trust with the Bradshaw Bourbon review. I bought a bottle before I saw any reviews thinking "Well it's relatively high proof and it's not that expensive. How bad can it be?" After trying it, I thought "There is no way anyone could possibly think this is drinkable." I then watched some UA-cam reviews, trying to change my own mind. Most people agreed that it wasn't great but this is the only channel that really told the truth, IMO. I believe the quote was "All of the bad flavor notes of bourbon and none of the good." I do realize that everyone's palate is different but I feel that we should all be able to agree that Bradshaw Bourbon is truly awful.
Also, as a perpetual tequila hater, I am surprised to say that these guys may have turned me around. After watching all the tequila reviews, I recently re-tried some tequila and am pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. I didn't dive in to that world yet (I don't think my liquor shelf can handle it), but I am dipping my toes in the water.
I can't believe it is basically on secondary now.....Someone must like it lol
@@royn8032 on secondary? Is it actually unavailable somewhere? In my area, it's nearly everywhere and has been so since it came out. I'm beginning to think I'm the only one dumb enough to buy a bottle.
@@MrRossman2 I am in California and I only see one store that has it at MSRP....I meant it is starting to go on secondary...that is what it seems anyway....I think a lot of people follow Minnick....I would actually agree with Minnick's description more than CP unfortunately but I wont buy another bottle
I get why you guys listed Remus V, the flavors were not blended together well, I also got the sweetness totally separated from the oak, delivered on my palate at different times, not blended. I think the less sophisticated masses (me included) didn’t care too much about that, because the sweet flavors were so dang good and the oakiness wasn’t overbearing but just the right amount, so it didn’t register as a problem that they arrived separately, not together. That problem has gone away with my bottle after being opened a few months, it’s s more blended now. A valid reason though to include it in your list as a disappointment, but not a dislike.

@@LeatherDaddy97 at first mine wasn’t and so I got what Dutch was saying about it, but it was so delicious I didn’t care lol. Then after 2 months or so of being opened it tasted blended.

I dont get the remus hype either. Granted i have not had 5, but i got a 2 on sale this year. NOT impressed at all! I dont care how many people love it, i wouldn't buy another bottle.
Bourbon santa has a conspiracy theory that remus is just blented bottles thamgp couldn't get sold. I tent to agree. I thought it would be interesting to mix my 2 with belle mead cask strength to proof it up a bit and tease out other flavors. It tasted like i was eating wood chips.
My remus 2 is on my most disappointing list.
the regular Blackened really isnt good at all (like a sugared Rye), IMHO... but the Cask Strength ones are really nice.

I think you guys shit on Thomas S Moore a little too much. I grabbed a bottle of the Chardonnay Cask and it's easily the most unique bourbon I've had all year. I'll never say no to a glass of it.
