If you like Kuru Kuru Kururin, you should try roundabout on PS4/Steam! Same general gameplay but with a bunch of new gimmicks & open world with gloriously cheesy live action cutscenes in the style of a Sega CD FMV Game.
May I also suggest Vitamin Connection from the lovely folks over at WayForward it's a farily recent gimmicky Switch game (2020) but it's very charming and one of the mini-games is pretty much a different take on Kuru Kuru Kururin (which up until now I thought was just the name of a sanrio hamster.)
Fun fact: Kuru Kuru Kururin, as the video showed, was developed by Eighting. Best known for the Bloody Roar franchise but also renowed for their shoot 'em up games, notably Battle Garegga. It was headed by Masahiro Yuge, who worked at Toaplan on shooters such as the legendary Truxton.
Sigma Star Saga mega fan here: Bandai Namco owns the rights to the franchise. Devs over at Wayforward have actually wanted to make a sequel/re-release the original for quite a while now (They've confirmed as much on Twitter), but their hands are tied on the matter unless BN decides to give them back one day. The game's ending (Whichever they decide to deem canon) deserves to be followed up on, cause the state of the universe afterwards would make for a compelling sequel. Thanks for covering it, Rebel! 3:12 Even as someone who hasn't taken French since highschool, even I can tell you that says "Minigames". Also, Kid Paddle was shown a lot in Canada back in the day. I immediately recognized the theme song when it cropped up.
So in the next one you’ll talk about Astro Boy: The Omega Factor, right? It’s filled with so much fan service for the larger Osamu Tezuka extended universe by making his “Star System” (his method of “recasting” the same character models in different “roles” like they were actors in film and television, this allowed him to save time making manga because he wouldn’t always have to come up with a new character design for each of the hundreds of manga and anime projects he made throughout his sadly cut-short by cancer life) a huge plot point and fetch quest in the second half of the game. It’s incredible they were able to make such a dedicated tribute to Tezuka’s many creations when most of his manga library wasn’t translated into English until long after this game and the 2003 anime revival of Astro Boy had concluded. And speaking of Treasure, this was console was pretty much their last hurrah when it came to side scrolling bullet-hell schmups, and Gunstar Super Heroes would also be a good GBA game to mention next time.
No. Freaking. Way! I grew up with Omega Factor as a kid! I still love that game and want to see it again! Please check it out, Mr. Pan! I know you’ll love it! Also, thanks for telling me about Black Belt and Sigma Star! I’ll see if I can’t find some decent fan art online!
Omega Factor is hands-down one of THE best action games on the GBA, and it's a criminal shame it's so unknown. Easily one of the best games Treasure's ever made.
Astro Boy: Omega Factor and Gunstar Super Heroes are absolute cream of the crop on GBA. Theyre both great looking, as well. I'd say Gunstar might be the best looking game on GBA full stop.
Despite its flaws, Sigma Star Saga is my favorite GBA game that no one's ever heard of. So nice to see it getting attention. Personally, I think the main reason it failed is just the "two great tastes...?" gameplay. The Venn Diagram of people who enjoy RPGs **and** Shmups is pretty slim.
I remember it being advertised in a gameinformer years back. The girls' designs were enough to get me interested, but I was never able to get my hands on a Game Boy :c
The GBA was the first gaming consoles I had as a kid, with the first game I played was Crash bandicoot the huge adventure, an experience I definitely never forget.
The thing to remember about Sigma Star Saga, apart from Psyme being best girl, is that Krill ships are bioships and, as such, are alive. Random encounters are literally a random ship in atmosphere on patrol getting scared by something moving and sucking up the nearest person wearing a parasite suit to blow up enough scary things until it calms down. I wish WayForward would revisit the universe, maybe with the random encounters toned down a smidge or reworked a bit, even if it means having to change the lore behind them.
Hooooly crap, that’s actually a funny bit of lore that explains why things are random. If Wayforward did another one, I’d ask for an SMT-style warning icon when a random battle is more likely (and can be excused as a ship getting suspicious of something) and offer the player some mechanic that can help reduce that suspicion level so that you aren’t pulled completely at random.

I'm surprised any one else knows about Sigma Star Saga. It was originally bundled in a 2 for 1 cartridge with another obscure game called Rebelstar: Tactical Command, made by the same guy who created the original XCOM (which you should totally cover in your next video, Pan)
RT you have no idea how long I’ve been trying to look for Sigma Star Saga. Ever since I played it and lost my PSP that had a pirated port of it I had long since forgotten the name and couldn’t for the life of me search it up as my spotty memory of it couldn’t give me a good enough search. I seriously thank you for finding this niche title and I’ll be playing this little fun game again thanks to your review.
Kid Paddle's author (Midam) had even more success with the spinoff comic "Game Over", focusing on the barbarian vidya character and the horrible deaths he or the princess he tries to rescue meet. The comic was (and still is) published in several kid magazines. It's great and it shows that trash or gory humor still works with the young uns. While not yet a classic, it's broadly recognized in France.
6:50 You mentioned Bobobo and Wario Ware in the same sentence. I am now legally obligated to forward this video to my good friend Behonkiss. BTW, speaking of Wario, you might want to give Wario Land 4 a test drive. That's where the weirdness of the Wario franchise in general really started.
I've reqlly been sleeping on this channel for way too long, because it's just oozing with charm and pretty colors The loding screens are just as entertaining as the actual content, and that's impressive
I never had consoles as a kid, so when I had my first touch screen phone, I downloaded a GBA emulator and I loved downloading the ROMs of all sorts of games, both popular and obscure. A strange, colourful game that particularly stuck with me was Drill Dozer by Game Freak, It had a pretty wacky gameplay gimmick and really cute character designs and aesthetics. Also, this Wario Ware is the first and only Wario Ware game I've ever played. Even though I never completed it I still had so much fun.
I owned a copy of Sigma Star Saga. I got it with a copy of Sword of Mana in a trade involving my copy of Pokemon Diamond. I didn't get far in it. Recently I sold my GBA games to a used game store. Mainly because the GBA I owned wasn't working and the DS I had wasn't in the best shape.
I have a lot fun (and frustrating) memories of Sigma Star Saga. It's one of the rare times I took a blind chance on a game without a franchise backing it or word of mouth, and I ultimately wasn't disappointed. So many hours were spent figuring out how to get each ending, and hours wasted trying to figure out how to save your one Bro in the game only to learn it is impossible. Another nitpick I have to add is that you are locked out of getting the best ending on your first playthrough. You can save Psyme but the way to save the human chick only unlocks after you've already beaten the game once.
Please talk about the Sonic Advance trilogy, I feel like people are forgetting how AMAZING they all are, especially compared to the 3D Sonic games from that era.
Its nice that you visited our country but sadly you were in the worst part. Be sure to visit the lovely south next time! Also major big ups for actually using "The Netherlands".
Thanks! I've got two new games that I've never played thanks to you! Mostly I played morbid crap, so Kid Paddle fits right in!. Black belt challengers reminds me of Darkstalkers, so that's the other one I got.
I just bought a famicom edition gba sp, won it in a bid. So excited you made this, i love the gba library and your videos. Gonna try and get as much of these games as possible haha. Already have warioware inc.
Since you mentioned WarioWare I was expecting Rythmn Tengoku to be mentioned as it's made by the same devs as WarioWare and not only is very colorful but it's also very wacky. Oh and it also spawned one of the best and under used Nintendo franchises ever
The Wade Hixton art is kinda funny to me because the whole game resembles Kim Possible or Penny Arcade to me, and then there's the referee that looks like a Cow and Chicken character.
I grew up on WarioWare, practically. Got hooked the moment I saw my cool developer cousin playing Twisted! and from that point on it became a core part of my youth. Not a day goes by where I don't sing Mona Pizza to myself or look back fondly on Smooth Moves. By the by, I find it crazy knowing the devs, Intelligent Systems, also developed another core part of my youth, Fire Emblem. Some things never lose their luster, I suppose!
tbh im very happy you mentioned warioware in this vid. its definitely way more well know, at least nowadays, but i will always nab at any chance of someone talking about it. especially the og title of the series. its just plain fun and easily one of my favorite game franchises. good vid here pan !!
Dragonball Advanced Adventure is absolutely a GOAT contender. I also highly recommend you check out Tomato Adventure. It's a japan only RPG made by Alphadream prior to Mario and Luigi that just recently got a fan translation.
I actually asked a high ranking Wayforward employee about it during the "Vote for Shantae in Smash!" campaign and he confirmed that Namco owns the rights to Sigma Star Saga.
GBA library is HUGE, like you can easily find 50 game that would intertein you for a year. You have FF tactics, Golden Sun, Mario tennis (minigames where fun), yu-gi-ho and Duel master for card, Megaman Battle network with a fun combat system not turn base, The sims in GBA is an adventure game, very weird and sick! Very charming, you have Advance wars as the older brother to Fire emblem in GBA, there is a serie of pinball games for pokemon, quite fun, Broken Sword for those wanting a point and click adventure, Zelda, harvest moon. And this isnonly by the top of my head.
I recall a Game Boy Advance game called Lady Sia. It was released in the early 2000s by TDK and it looked weird but colorful. It was suppose to get a sequel years later, but the sequel was cancelled. If you look through Nintendo Power magazines during the GBA era, screenshots were shown on how it would have played.

The Mario & Luigi Games in general could use some more love, Partners in Time was my childhood.
I see Sigma Star Saga I click. Seriously underrated game
Summon Night Swordcraft story 1 and 2 held me over quite a bit in my childhood.
These obscure game videos are my favourite ones Pan makes!
Rhythm Tengoku. It's barely talked about outside of the pre-existing RH fandom. It's a surprisingly fun rhythm-game minigame collection
Sigma Star Saga deserves a lot more attention, despite it's flaws it's a pretty cool game.
GBA is by far my favorite console of all
time, hands down, this was definetly a treat
There is also a Kid Paddle cartoon that I remember watching here in Canada back when I was a kid. You should look into it.
Ah sigma star. The art of the purple girl was in a gaming magazine, and was one of my earliest. . .recreation materials. Good times.
I'm so glad my favorite youtuber mentioned Bobobo! It does random lol humor really good.
I've reqlly been sleeping on this channel for way too long, because it's just oozing with charm and pretty colors
The loding screens are just as entertaining as the actual content, and that's impressive
Man sigma star was one of my favorite games on my gameboy i still have it to this day.
Glad Wario Ware got a mention. Would love to see a video on obscure D.S games
It's always a treat to see games hardly ever talked about. Thanks.
Someone needed to tell Pan about the Kid Paddle TV series. I grew up watching that shit.
Please talk about the Sonic Advance trilogy, I feel like people are forgetting how AMAZING they all are, especially compared to the 3D Sonic games from that era.
AGREED!!! They brought back the 2D formula and modernized it with the obstacles found in the 3D games. A solid trilogy that really needs a re-release.
glad to see sigma star saga being talked about
Its nice that you visited our country but sadly you were in the worst part.
The WarioWare series is the bizarre and underrated gem 💎 of Nintendo
Can't be that underrated if there's been one on every Nintendo console since GBA haha
“Kuru Kuru Kurunin, Be carful of pronunciation “
Oh I get it
Awesome video! I'm pretty interested in that Kid Paddle game! Such a colorful list of GBA games!
Nothing like binging a channel only for that channel to release a new video right then and there. It's like magic!
im glad to know someone else loves the gba wario ware as much as i do.
dude. the pan on holiday illustrations looked dope. More of those please
I just bought a famicom edition gba sp, won it in a bid. So excited you made this, i love the gba library and your videos. Gonna try and get as much of these games as possible haha. Already have warioware inc.
I wish the "chocovaders" game had an English release I'd definitely suggest taking a look delightfully funky stuff
Rebel taxi and warioware. Nothing screams early 2000s more. I love it
Since you mentioned WarioWare I was expecting Rythmn Tengoku to be mentioned as it's made by the same devs as WarioWare and not only is very colorful but it's also very wacky. Oh and it also spawned one of the best and under used Nintendo franchises ever
I would absolutely LOVE to hear you talk about even more WarioWare, I adore that franchise since Smooth Moves!
Psyme is rightfully on the thumbnail. Glad to see someone talk about Wayforward's Sigma Star Saga
Love the aesthetic of your videos as usual Pan. Great video.
Thanks for visiting the Netherlands man! Glad you liked it.
man i loved the gba so much as a kid and i still do so many memories with it
I loved me some sigma star saga. Beat it so many times growing up and I'm sure it's the reason I gotta thing for purple chicks.
I pride myself on having played a ton of gba games, even a lot of obscure ones and you still managed to find some I've never even heard about.
Black Belt Challenge looks sick! I've even started to listen to the soundtrack after this video. Such bangers!!
as someone who actually played it, I am happy to see it gain some recognition :3
If you're gonna be discussing strange GBA games, Rhythm Tengoku (or any Rhythm Heaven game) is a must to talk about!
This is a fun retrospective giving insight on games otherwise missed. Would also like to see that WarioWare retrospective.
i love the similarities starting to arise between this channel and ThorHighHeels
11:00 the brown dog looks a lot like Pappy Van Poodle.
Awesome video pan! I love Warioware it's one of my favorite series!
Ah man i remember sigma star saga, what a weird concept
I actually asked a high ranking Wayforward employee about it during the "Vote for Shantae in Smash!" campaign and he confirmed that Namco owns the rights to Sigma Star Saga.
I love how you present your videos, keep it up muh dude!
That whole opening of the Black Belt Challenge segment makes me hopeful that Pan is a Cammy fanboy as well
Cammy, Mika, and Karin are my fav obviously and so is Alpha 3 for it's menu design
@@RebelTaxi Based Alpha 3 enjoyer. I still play the PSP version from time to time
I recall a Game Boy Advance game called Lady Sia. It was released in the early 2000s by TDK and it looked weird but colorful. It was suppose to get a sequel years later, but the sequel was cancelled. If you look through Nintendo Power magazines during the GBA era, screenshots were shown on how it would have played.
Holy shit! I thought I was the only person left who remembers Sigma Star Saga! O.O
You know a console is good when even after 20 years you can still find out about interesting games you've never head before for it.
Long live to G to the B and A. Hope to see more from it in here soon!
