This was super helpful. We are looking at buying a sharan and installing in the middle and you answered all my questions. Love your videos, they are clearest and most thorough.
Thank you soooo much for this. Have been worried about car seat configuration since finding out our family 7 seater Merc GLE won’t allow (it does fit) a support leg in the middle seat on back row (bonkers for a family car!). This has been a great help. 😊
This is helpful, thank you. Can I install the car seat in the front passenger seat, when the same anchor points/rails are used for another ERF car seat in the seat behine? So I'd have two car seats one in front and one in the back, passenger side?
Could you show how to install minikid 2 with the angle adjusting wedge please? I'm also confused about the 37 degree maximum angle, where is measurement to be taken from? Thank you for any help with either!
Yes, I can do that, that's no problem. I will try to do it in the next few days. The 37º angle should be measured on the backrest where the child's back touches it.
Thank you very much for this detailed video! Still, I have a question concerning installing 3 Minikids. Do I need individual tether straps for each seat or could I click the straps from the seat in the middle together with one from each side?
Great video. My car doesn't have the handy buckle bit by the rails and we have to feed the tether through the front seat to use it in the back seat so would it still work to feed it back under the front seat to use it in the passenger seat?
@@CarSeatMargaret sorry to sound stupid but instead of feeding the strap through the front seat and out the back of the front seat (like I did in my mums car to use this car seat in the back seat) would I do it the opposite way round to install in the passenger seat? So feed the strap through the front seat from the back instead? As I can't see the tether strap being long enough 🤔
Thanks. Very nice! How do you install to make sure the angle is more than 35 degree off the vertical? Our axkid seems too vertical so that the head nods forward when the child falls asleep.
If it's too upright, the only thing you can do is move the front seat further forward. The Minikid can touch the back of the front seat, so the further forward the front seat can go, the more legroom and recline the child will have. If the seats in your car are very sloped this will make the Minikid more upright than in cars with flatter seats. In that case the angle adjusting wedge will help.
The straps that attach to the seat rail are just straps, they don't ratchet. The self-tightening straps are attached to the back of the child seat. Currently the only seats that have self-tightening straps are the Axkid Minikid 2 and Minikid 4, the BeSafe Stretch and the Britax-Römer Max-Safe Pro.
Hi! I want to move my axkid to the front seat and just found out my xc90 doesn’t have tether anchor points in the front (the car manual said so though!) I see you use the “extra straps” and THEN attach the carseat tether to the extra straps, my question is can you attach your carseat tether straps directly to the anchor points in the back? I’ve checked and they are long enough. I hope I made sense lol! Thank you very much
Yes, you can. It's probably a two person job, because the straps will retract as you pass them under the seat and it will be really hard to maintain the length. So I would have someone else hold the strap while you pass it under the seat. I have seen pictures of Swedish Volvos (ie Volvos in Sweden) that have tether points in the front footwell, but our UK ones don't unfortunately.
Hello, Is it absolutely necessary that the back of the car seat make contact with the dashboard? I followed the instructions in this video to install my AxKid MoveKid on the front passenger seat of my car (having checked both my car manual and the car seat manufacturer website to make sure the car and seat are compatible) and the result was that with the seat so far forward it was impossible to see the passenger side wing mirror. This seems dangerous. Many thanks.
Only This Tip The Car seats should never be placed in front seat, Also Question, Can We Put Car Seats In The Front Seat On Pickup Trucks with no backseats?
I'm in the UK, so American car seat rules don't apply here. But I do know that they are different. One American car seat rule is that seats cannot go in the front seat. This is only because airbags in American cars can usually not be switched off, but here in Europe a lot of cars have an airbag switch, and in those cars a child seat can safely go in the front seat.
You would have to consult your truck's manual to see if any child seats are allowed to be used in your vehicle. If not then I'm afraid you will not be able to transport your child in your truck.
isn't the middle thingy below the middle backseat a problem for the leg? I've always thought you cannot install any carseat with a leg on this middle part because it is higher than the rest of the floor. also, shouldn't the carpets be removed when installing a leg?
No, neither of those things are a problem. It's not possible to fit the leg on top of the transmission tunnel in every car, and also not all car seats' legs are short enough, but it it fits it's perfectly safe, the top of the tunnel is strong enough for a car seat leg. The carpets do not affect the safetly of the leg either, as long as the fit is solid the carpet won't move.
Hello, my car dosen't have the metal thing in the rails and I whant to have my son in the passenger side. Does that mean i Can not have him in the front?
Not at all. Only Volvos have those metal rings, in all other cars you just wrap the strap around the seat rail like you would for a back seat installation, but on a longer setting. And then just pass the straps to the front underneath the seat.
Can i ask how old is the child? As my son is 3 months old and my father had him in his car seat in the front seat without me knowing and to me that was a big no
The only thing that makes the front seat unsafe for a child of any age, is the airbag. In a lot of cars (but not all of them) the airbag can be switched off to allow a baby/child seat to be fitted. This is the only reason that that switch is there and it is totally safe. A lot of people prefer to have their baby in the front seat, especially while they're very little. Other people find it too distracting and prefer to have them in the back. It's personal preference, but you don't need to worry that the front seat is less safe. But the airbag MUST be off.
Hi, I have two questions I hope you can answer. If the car, Toyota Yaris 2019, does not have the teather hooks at the front, where do you teather? At the front part of the seat, or do you still teather at the back? I just think the teather will slide forward if I teather it at the back. Question 2: if I install the carseat at the front it's a little too upright for my 15 month old even with the wedge on the actual Axkid move open, I have ordered an additional Axkid wedge, can I place that under the wedge on the Axkid Move? I am thinking it might not be reclined enough without the wedges placed in it. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I have turned the airbag off at the front, as per instructions on your very informative video, 😊
Thank you very much for this video. You may not have gotten a million likes but you have surely helped someone.

No, each seat needs its own straps, but you can attach two straps to one front seat rail.

Yes it would. When you attach the straps to the corners of the front seat and pass them underneath, it's usually better to cross them over.
