As a historian, I thank you deeply for popularizing this idea. The most interesting historical texts are from the average person, NOT from the "famous" ones. I'm most proud of translating the letters of a completely unknown young girl from Rome--a prostitute who was considered disposable and unimportant, but was literate and had so much insight. Her voice MATTERS. So does yours! Let it be heard.
🌷 Oh, thank you for your encouragement! Our family has diaries from a few ancestors during the Depression, and I although they were really good at listing prices and where they went, I wish they’d added more thoughts about culture and pivotal events.
I made a personal scrapbook from internet photos of the 911 event and pages in my children’s school books. When I look at them, it puts me right back to all of my feelings in those days.
I'm in the UK & we normally get some notice of political events before they happen - spending reviews, law changes etc, so I like to sit down & write out my hopes for these announcements before they are released & then compare them with what is actually announced. Our budget for example, gave me the chance to write out all my hopes & dreams for national spending & how I would change health, education etc. It's a great way to work out your political views especially when you look back years later
Thank you for this perspective. I have avoided current events in my journaling, but you may have just given me a way in that I can handle. And a gentle release valve when its too much. ❤
🤭 I just finished journaling about how your video shifted my mindset on it. After 2020, I had been in total avoidance mode on news and events. I even avoided your video for a bit because of the topic until I decided to click on it. 😶🌫️ Thanks friend 🙏
The way I journal in mine I basically journal what I would want to know happened to my grandparents if I were to read their mail or journals themselves long after they pass. So I try to make it personal but not too personal and full of details. I recently journaled about Hurricane Helene and how my community went without for a while. Ill never forget the people that came together during that time and still are.
That’s a great way to think of it. Interesting info for future generations, but not TMI! And I hope your community is feeling a little closer to normal (whatever that is). Hugs!
I think if I were to journal about an event, there would be two. There would be 9/11 which, although I’m in England, affected me greatly because of something else that was happening at the time. And the death of Queen Elizabeth 11 which was also something that was huge. Both events changed things forever.
What great ideas! Thank you!

I journaled about Queen Elizabeth’s death as well. She reminded me so much of my Grandma - except for the royalty part, of course!
