- This is a DIY Swift lower spring install video. Be careful when doing this the springs are under compression and can shoot out and hurt you. Preform at your own risk. Overall its an easy install takes about 4 hours to do by yourself probably around 2hrs with a friend.

Not only do you save money, you also take care not to damage the car and torque everything up to spec.... unlike most shops, especially dealerships!
Also, now all you need are better tires an lighter wheels...
Looks awesome
Definitely in the works. Yeah dealerships are horrible at quality work. I’ve honestly never left a dealership after they’ve worked on something without having to immediately find the issue that he caused from lack of tightening down something. Last time I had an intercooler Cupler clamp legitimately jiggling in my engine bay. Fixed it real quick with the tool kit in my trunk boom good to go👍
Was about to pay a shop to install my springs. This doesn't look hard at all. Perfect.
You got it 👍
watching you speak with so much excitement that spit glistens in the sun made me happy
I installed swift spec r springs on my evo x about 3 years ago. They were the only spring available that were designed around the valving of the factory bilsteins. The ride is actually better than stock.
$2k geezus! The stance looks perfect now.
Last week i lowered my F82 in a garage. With help from the owner it just cost me 75 dollars fot the labour. 1hr 45 min and we were done. No need to remove the strutbrace. It was a very easy job. Even i was surprised that it was so easy. There is no way they ask 2 k for this job and people fall for this fraud. But you made a very nice vid though.
Another sick video! Enjoy the drop and it was great chatting with ya homie!
Thanks my dude!
I did my DIY spring last year. I only needed to take one inner bolt for the rears. Afterwards, I went for alignment check the guy said no need to adjust. You'll split your front splitters very soon lol
Yep, it's low I know that it's basically a disposable item at the moment but man it looks damn good. Sounds like you undid the one bolt that goes into the subframe that's definitely another way to do it.
@@BlakesGarage yep, for sure it does transform the cars look and most satisfying is the handling improvement👍
I'm actually so surprised BMW made it so easy to upgrade the springs!
Nice diy bro for sure just i didnt even use the spring compressor tool
Blake first time on your channel and man I love the way you drive the M4 man! Instant sub
How much lower did it got?
that exit ramp got slaughtered
Thank you my friend lol love my clover!
Always gotta have the proper tools for the job! I've never seen a socket like the one you used for your top hat. Would help a lot for cars that have that allen
Yeah most definitely it's a must have really expecally if you have EDC.
_Wait... you didnt even have to use the spring compressor tools!!_
Nope not if you do it like I showed.
Great intuitive video. Wish I had the patience to do that install myself, but I'm kind of ham fisted when it come to DIY jobs of that magnitude. Keep the videos coming, there must be something I can do myself to the F80 besides wash and drive it. Lol
Great video! I watched this and I don't even own a BMW!
what is the torque spec for the top mount 18mm 12 point nut on the front struts ??
I’m picking up the same springs Blake, one thing a local did was recode the EDC to the CS set points. He said it’s 1000 times better
Hahaha that would be me! We spoke on facebook. And CS EDC is the key!
@@AutoAddict how do you do that?
I ran those springs and I didn’t like them on my F82. In fact, as nice as they looked for stance, the car didn’t handle as well. Lap times suffered too and the car bottomed out at the corkscrew at laguna seca. Once the springs were on the car the bottom 2 or 3 coils actually sat directly on top of each other. While I’m not an engineer, I would think that negates the actual use of the whole spring. Went back to stock and the car handled better again.
Did you have the first version or the recent ones? I really like the feel and the handling differences so far but I’ve yet to track it at Laguna. What bottomed out? As far as the spring stacking that’s fine. If you think of a coilovers with helper springs it’s exactly the same thing. That just helps with droop out, if you didn’t have that when the car gets light the spring could move around and change orientation. So far I love them but if I do coils I’ll definitely do a video on that.
I was looking at those but after reading a few forums people said they are too stiff so I went with the Macht Schnell Springs, let us know how these feel after they settle completely.
There amazing you can't go better than swift. The people that were complaining were the first run group and the changed them later on. Watch the end of the video I drive around and talk about them. Ride height it's perfect. Absolutely love the ride and look. Also you have to remember the ride should be stiffer as the spring rates are firmer to compensate for the drop so your not constantly bottoming out the dampers. So far I absolutely love them had them on for two weeks so a new squeak or anything.
@Thomas Rock Yeah maybe something like that. Really I'm loving them the car feels amazing like it should have from the factory. Much sharper turn in most likely from the additional front camber gain. Then the car has much less body roll. Its not bumpy or uncomfortable it feels just like the car maybe did in sport compared to comfort. So basically like everything is clicked up on notch I'd say sport ++ for Sport + now
Looks great. How does it feel though. Bouncy at all. I had hnr springs on previous 335i and were terrible, ruined car ride and feel. Any true insight would be appreciated. Want to lower my m4 but don’t want to make it not an m4 if springs compromises ride quality. Keep up good work!
You’re awesome dude, RECIFE Brasil South America here, thanks for sharing that at this great vid, at this part of the world...
Hey man I have a 2016 435i coupe looking to eliminate the stock wheel gap need some suggestions for lowering it. Thanks
This is what I would do.
Put Swift Springs on my Focus RS and I'll say that they help alot with lean in and feel. Didn't help that much with the stiff ride the RS is known for.
have you got the torque specs or do you use a generic table according to the size of bolt/nut or torxs?
Hi Blake love your videos. Question: I have a 2016 F80 M3 and want to DIY EMD lowering springs. Which Strut nut socket do I need? Thank, you!
lol so how long did you yank on that end link with the weight on one side of the car
Im running swift springs on my f80 and they are awesome.
Yep, me also I love mine so far no complaints.
Will the replacement of the lower spring affect the adaptive suspension ?
NG KH it will stiffen up a tad bit but it feels a lot nicer on turns.
NG KH exactly, works seamlessly with EDC 👍🏼
Awesome great video. What's the torque spec on the front?
Swift Springs on my e92 M3 and I effing love them! Wife could not tell the difference in ride quality, but when driving aggressive around turns it felt so much better planted and balanced. Also, I do not miss the bay area traffic. Horrible traffic.
That's 100% the real test. My wife likes them also in my M4 really not much of a noticeable difference. Yeah are roads in Sacramento and the Bay are absolutely dog shit!
Haven’t blown your shocks yet ?
I need to swap the Downpipes to OEM. And I got quoted $1100. I guess I gotta do it myself. I made a cap for the positive guy. 3d printed.
I also notice you remove your spoiler that you install couple months ago, why? did not like the quality or looks? asking cause I am looking for a rear spoiler and was considering the one you got
Great video. But do you have issues now with alignment? I thought the fronts don't have camber adjustment?
im thinking this too
You do need to get an alignment after installing the springs!
Hey Blake nice informative video like always...I am looking to tackle this mod, quick question I did look at my camber screw and it looks kind super hard to get out, do you have any suggestions for that? rubber mallet or some oil overnight?
Great video! Keep up the good work! Will be adding the same setup on my f80 because of this. Thank you!
Blake’s garage...I noticed the ride was a bit bouncy when you went for a ride after installing the springs. Or was it you shaking your head.?
Awesome video dude. I came pretty late to this one hahaha. Keep making the best content for the every man. 🤘🏼👊🏼
What Color is the m4? So Good looking!
Thanks it's Sakhir Orange! Red in the shadows orange in full sun. I absolutely love the colour and you barely ever see it.
Hey fam, will those springs work on the f32 428i xdrive? If not, do you have any recommendations? I prefer progressive ones if possible!
Awesome DIY bro! About to do this myself, would the entire suspension fall to the floor if you didn't have a jack underneath?
Yes it would. Also it would shoot down because it’s under compression.
You’re awesome dude, have u tried EIBACH PRO-KIT, the black springs?
Hey man I just installed the KW HAS on my f80 m3, my local shop only charged me $350 to install. Even the fanciest shop I could find only was asking $500 for install. Maybe I just lucked out, curious who would ask $2k!
Great video! Thanks for listing all of the tools, I'm getting ready to install my KW v3 and wanted to buy the tools I don't have. Question -- Do you think I could follow the same front install method you did and not remove the tophat/brace? It looks as if I could just break the 18mm out and pull out the stock strut, then put in the KW. I haven't found a definite answer though.
If your doing coilovers you’ll have to remove everything because you need to get to the Esocket bolts on the top hat. You have to remove stuff so you can get to the 3rd bolt. It isn’t hard just time consuming. Also make sure to have the correct tools like you mentioned. Unless it uses stock top hats, but I’m pretty sure the KW’s have there own with a bearing in it.
Also you’ll need that spreader tool I show for the knuckle to separate. Pretty straight forward and I think you can tackle it no problem.
@@BlakesGarage KW V3 uses the stock tophat! It's the Clubsport that has their own tophat/camber plate. Noted about the spreader tool to separate the knuckle. I'm sure it'd be a pain in the ass to pry that without something like that. I usually do coilover installs myself just trying to do all my research so I don't find myself missing something in the middle of the install haha.
Shaddy Zayour you don’t have to remove the other stuff then. Just use a jack under the control arm/knuckle to compress the spring. But you will definitely want the spreader tool. Should be pretty dang easy that way. I would recommend aftermarket top hats for camber adjustments in the future.
@@BlakesGarage Thanks for the replies man! I'll give it a shot without removing all of the extra stuff and see how it goes. Camber plates are in the future if the car sees more track time for sure.
what tire size's were you running here when you dropped it on the springs?
Nice man. I have H&R to install on my 340i m-sport.
Awesome ride bro, looking to pick up an m4 soon!!!
The F30 slings fits the f82?
Does this have any performance gains? I know in the past with many M series cars aftermarket springs actually reduced performance on the track.
28:08 how do you make these movements look so fluid?? I have a LSD installed in my F30
Just a GoPro and smooth hand movements. This is the hero 7 black with the hyper smooth turned on.
Can we tighten the 18mm on the top hat without the 18mm strut nut socket?
Not properly just get the correct socket so you can torque to spec
How much would you charge to install springs on a F80? =)
Good Stuff Blake!!! Keep me coming..... Question: Do u have Downpipes on your car yet?
i was about to ask the same.... :)
DailyDrivenTurbo He got into the 10’s in 1/4mile down at the Dragstrip on E85 BM3 tune. I’m pretty sure he has downpipes. 👍👍👍
@@samuelgrossman1205 aaaaaaaa :) my bad gotta watch all his videos to catch-up! thanks!
hey Blake i notice on the video that you did not use the compression tools cause it dosent show, do you really need it for this mod?
Only if you remove the strut from the knuckle. Or you don't have multiple jack's.
The way I showed I didn't end up using one. But you can if you want it's just a few more bolts to five and then you need to take the strut out of the knuckle.
@@BlakesGarage gotcha, I do have multiple jacks, so no problem there...thanks bro super awesome videos and great M
Thats awesome, subbed, i own 15 M4 6spd.
Did you have any issue with a crunk hub? If yes, was you able to solve it?
Ahh the video I still haven’t posted. Yes I spun mine and I need to do a video to go into more detail. Subscribe and turn on notifications.
Blake's Garage please cause I recently got a 2015 m4 and really thinking about BM3 but the crunkhub...
Yeah, do the fix before if you like to drive super hard or are thinking about stage 2 or E85. They spin in stock form and the engines $35K to replace so the little investment will be well worth the hassle.
Does the M4 need ride height adaptations reset after lowering like the S3 does?
I’ve been waiting for this video. Thanks for the detailed tutorial. I thought the front was easier. Do you really need a spring compressor?
Only if you remove the whole strut from the knuckle. I ended up just using the two jack technique in this video to release tention off the strut once the nut is removed.
Nice. Do you still the swift? If so, any issues?
Yep love them no issues.
@@BlakesGarage That's good. I always hear that lowering springs will accelerate the life of the oem shock/dampers or eat out the tires.. Did you get a camber kit?
Why don’t you share the torque specs while you’re at it?
Ok, so basically skip all the strut brace removal steps if you're not going to remove the entire front strut assembly. All you need to do is remove the top covers and edc sensor and then remove the spindle bolt. EASY!
Yep, I started out wanting to remove the whole thing and then I was like I think I can do it without that. Way easier but you will need two Jack’s
that ending was fire
Thanks Scott! I'll definitely have more. Content like this soon.
Will changing the spring wear down the shocks faster ?
If the are linear then yes.. progressive no
I really wish they made the M4 with the old V8, just refined the design a bit for reliability, that engine revs like no turbo can dream of.
Ehh it sounds great but if you drive both cars the S55 twin turbo 6 has all the torque and a huge power curve compared to the S65. S65 comes alive around 4K and S55 does at 1800
Blake's Garage yeah but especially in a manual, high revs is what I want, I much prefer an S2000 over a mustang for example
why it doesnt drift when you accelerate in corners? is it because of the ESP?
Throttle control and grip 🤷♂️ with traction off there's no ESP it's drift mode if you stab it and want to initiate it will slide forever no problem.
He likes to go round.
Great video, well explained 👍🏻
subbed, please do more w M4 i’m trying to find real content on these cars lol i’m really interested in getting one
Definitely, check my past M4 videos I have lots. For I'm sure the mods that you would be thinking of.
Is that Florin Rd?
How many mm did you lower the car?
after a couple of cars id have to say DO NOT go the lower springs way. buy coils instead. especially on a M4 like that. you will damage the ride experience more than you could imagine. well it will look good but driveability will suck compared to coils
@Thomas Rock adjustable shocks is not the same as going with just lowering springs :) but i do get what you mean
@Thomas Rock ok
I have a 435i
I click on the link but they’re not showing any info about ride height.
I’m guessing same as your m4
That’s the only thing that keeps me from placing the order.
Yeah I would guess the same height. 1.1in front 0.9in rear.
Great video... I have these on my '16 m4 comp as well. I think your rear springs might be installed wrong... the helper springs on the rear should be on the top and in the front they should be on the bottom. This is after hours of research. I wonder if there's any harm leaving it as is?
Edit: I take that back... seems like there's a LOT of confusion on the forums. Confirmed with Swift themselves that this is correct positioning for the rears
Legit! Most people got H&R. Very few people got Swift on Euro!
Yeah, H&R are pretty good but I've heard they are a bit bouncy.
I went spec r and Koni for s4
Perfect !
Keep it up bru🇿🇦
Thumbs up for speed cloth!!!!!!
What does this mean exactly? Speed Cloth? was this a typo
Sacramento!
I think 🤔 the front spring you put it up side down?
love the test drive at the end ,made me piss lol........
how did you make the pixels E30 logo?
Had a guy do it on illustrator. Shirts for sale on www.wrenchon.com
Well done
Damn Blake why you have to say that about us 435 guys. We already feel bad enough.
Where’s the S3?🥺
At home, I just did a bunch on Laguna Seca track day videos. Look back and check them out.
Is that a real M Performance splitter or rep? Also, good video. Keep it up
Rep throwaway I'm not going to pay too dollar for something that's going to get destroyed. Looks great and I won't be that mad when I destroy it and I deserve scrape if I leave my driveway to fast or don't have a good approach angle. Did a video of the install of it check my channel.
Doesn’t the lowering springs cause more damage to your bump and dampeners ? I’ve been told many times that you will go through your suspension much quicker if your springs are too low.
Go with progressive springs instead of linear… wayyy better on the struts
Love iT!
Hey blake do you think it would handle better with kw coilovers?
Alignment?
Yeah, you need to do one after.
What manual are you using to “tighten down to spec”?
bye S3? :(
Umm I still have the S3 watch last weeks videos I literally was racing it at Laguna Seca
@@BlakesGarage yeeeeeyyyyyyyy
3:33 its all the same just different jajajajajajajajajaja
Sac town!!!
$2000 for a spring install is bs, 7-800 max unless you are going to some Mickey Mouse shop that has no idea what they are doing.
M tax my dude!
And if your lazy just cut the coils and bam now your car is lower
FYI you do not need spring compressors to install springs on f8x thank me later
Yep, watch my video I show that. Well there's two ways. The way I show without using one. Then there's the way when you remove the whole strut from the knuckle and then you need the compressor. But yeah watch the whole video. The compressor is definitely the safer way for most but if you feel skilled with the two jack technique then yep no compressor needed 👍
Blake's Garage gotcha bud watched the Vid but did some hop skips and jumps so I might have missed that part...FYI I’ve been quoted between$600- $700 to get it done, great vids btw 👍🏽
cold2036 yeah I figured beacuse I wrote on the screen basically the same comment. Yeah that's more realistic but from what people say on the forums some shops try to M tax the hell out of you. Definitely pat's to shop around. Overall the installation is straightforward and a simple DIY for someone that wants to dive in even with the EDC.
Nowadays people just showing off
