Did you tighten the main spring strut bolt after you torque the mounting bolts on the strut? On the video, it didn't seem tightened when you put the front shocks back on the car..
Great vid! I have a question, So BMW’s with M-Adaptive Suspension a lot of people online were saying that running springs would wear out the shocks. Would the safer play to buy coilovers that support M-Adaptive Suspension or would spring be a safe play?
No Coilover will support the M adaptive suspension, since it’ll be replacing the whole system. You’ll need to code the adaptive suspension out once you install the Coilovers. Unfortunately the springs will wear out the shocks. I installed it on my last F30 which had about 20,000miles on it, but 45,000km the shocks were worn.
springs work great in my experience. i'll give a long term review as i get more miles on them but i've never had shocks fail prematurely due to lowering springs.
Do I have to change the shock as well? I heard the shock might wear out after changing the shorter spring with stock shocks. Stock 340 suspension is soft Af 😂 I have one and the body roll destroyed my tire’s sidewall
Are you scraping on entry/exit/speed bumps? I have the dinan springs and already scraping with the mapper front lip. I’d like to go lower up front to get rid of the gap
What are your thoughts about re-using to torque to yield bolts vs replacing them? I see a lot of mixed things on this. I believe all of the top suspension bolts should be replaced. Did you re-use or replace yours?
Torque to yield bolts, or "stretch bolts" as some call it should NEVER be reused. They are made to stretch when torqued and should be replaced because of said stretching. Bolts are cheap, your suspension coming apart will not be cheap.
I reuse them all the time. Just depends on the application. But if you watch the video you'll see i have camber plates so they are not the stock bolts.
@kern417 would you be worried with lowering springs would put extra wear on your shocks? If this is even true? I have EDC and am trying to avoid purchasing $3,000 coilovers that support EDC without the delete kit. I am curious to know your thoughts. As I want the cosmetic of the lowered car, and the small performance gains
Hey man thanks it’s very helpful, what rims are they like name and dimensions ( wheels you put after changing springs) ? And is that the 30 mm lowering ?
I have h&r springs for the supra. But I'm a bit conserned with the massive front drop. Instead of selling them. Any thing we can do to raise the front a bit?
How much should i lower my 340i? its an xdrive f31. I want it to be slick in the arches and tires. I dont want it to look a slammed camry haha. I see so many diffrent setups and no one mentions how much they have lowered their cars. Im running 19inch wheels
I also have an f31 340 xdrive and the hr makes it look very good, the ride is awful tho. Highly recommend a full coilover setup for better feel and a nicer ride :)
I have an xDrive 340i with the adjustamble dampers. Is there any coding that I need to do after an install like this? I feel like I've heard about people needing to code ride height sensors or something like that.
Just do Coilovers if possible, I did Springs on both my 328i & 235i. They ride rough overtime and just have the car feel bouncy. 440i has coils the most basic ones. The springs were always a pain to install.
@@kern417im going to do my front tomorrow i believe your leaing the strut out approach will save a great deal of time and stress undoing less bolts essential I did the rear the other day following your guid great stuff man
Kern, sorry but for springs H&R are really bad. These springs keep sagging. Specially on the standard Adaptives shocks. I fitted these myself on my M140i 1.5 year ago. I was soo much that end the end the car stood on its bumpstops, with the rod completely at the end in the damper strut. No bueno!! I swapped to Bilstein B8 and Eibach Pro Kit Sprigns. Match made in heaven. I do have HR sway bars and these are good.
@coenwag, I’ve just installed a relatively similar setup on my f22 M240i with Bilstein B8 and Dinan springs but the front sits much higher than the rear it looks ridiculous now and I am very disappointed at how it currently sits. I’ve been thinking about either going with the H&R super sport springs or Eibach Pro and stumbled upon your comment. How are the Eibach springs when paired with the B8 shocks? Would you happen to have any pictures on your setup now? TIA.
@timh1142 I've had B8 plus Eibach on my 435i. Eibach Pro Kit lowers a bit less then H&R Sports, but I hear they are also a bit more comfortabele so for visuals vs comfort keep that in mind. The B8 Bilsteins front shocks have a different spring plate compared to stock where the lower part of the spring rests on it makes the springs sit differently, so a B8 with a lowering spring will still sit differently to a stock shock with the same spring is what I'm trying to say. B8 plus Eibach Pro Kit lowers mostly the front on the car by 20 mm and the rear maybe 5mm the handling is alot better tho less roll and better turn in and stability. The only thing I disliked a tad about the dampers is the initial first unevenness in the road they handle a bit harsher and then have a smooth roll off /control for what ever comes next. It appears Koni Yellow has a smoother first response from what I hear. That being said I enjoyed the B8's plus Eibachs alot and will transfer then to my 340i rwd Touring at some point😉

How low did you drop it, I’m thinking about doing the same 🙏🏾❤️✅
How much did it actually lower? I am getting ready to replace my coils, but only want a slight modification look. How much is the modest drop?

the 440i has a manual transmission. so far, so good.
