I am a beginner pen turner from India find it very inspirational to watch your videos . Learnt a lot observing your videos . Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks Jean-Claude, I like you had to stumble my way thru some tutorials and destroyed lots of material along the way. Looking forward to one day getting me a metal lathe. As always thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks for watching, I have not used alumilte blanks for bespoke pens. I have several friends that pour their own alumite blanks as well as acrylic blanks for bespoke pens.
Just subscribed, just bought some nibs as i want to make a fountain pen for a lived one. I have both a metal and wood lathe. I have the m10 tap and die but i dont know what the internal thread tap i need. Im going to use african blackwood for the nib holder. Any advice on the tooling i need please would be great.
Thank you for subscribing. You may want to watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/upZouAXkQ_Y/v-deo.htmlsi=yiLIRsWolGNlpwXW and check my videos on my channel as I have a lot of them. The 10mm tap and die you bought is that for the cap and body? I use a 14mm, other people use a 13mm for the cap and body threads.
Great clip and watched it again. My nib that I bought was a Schmidt fh341 with a M7.5 x0.5 thread. Your clip is inspiring mate, I have been making pens for a few years and never made a fountain pen. Bought a kit one to see how they go together but nothing compares to making a bespoke pen from nearly scratch ;-) keep up the great work your doing and all the best from Yorkshire in the UK
@@lancestancliffe4885 Thank you, nothing compares to making one from scratch. The hardest part is the section, once you make 10 of these in a row you get good at it just like turning a kit pen. Thank you for watching my video and the kind words of encouragement.
I'll give it another try I guess! I was able to make one fountain pen earlier this year after years of trying. I've been trying to replicate it but just destroying all the ebonite in the process. I guess it was luck but my biggest problem might be using metal drill bits as I then have less thread because of the angle of the tip. And dull tools too...
I would say yes but I’m not sure if they chip when you try to use tap and die. Some acrylic chip like glass when I try to use tap and die and others don’t. A majority of bespoke pen makers that cast their own blanks I believe use Alumalite.
This is a great video and I learned al lot about dimensioning the Nib housing. So much that I created a 3d model and drawing file for it in Solidworks. If you would like this drawing for your records in PDF, let me know how to contact you. I am also looking to create a whole series of Bespoke pen drawings. If there are any particular pens you would like detailed, let me know.
Wow, that's really cool that you did that based on my video. I would like any thing like that for reference. I'm a pen and paper guy so I that would be helpful. email: exoticwoodpen@gmail.com
Interesting fountain pen from scratch. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Thank you for watching, it’s great to make your own!

That is great to hear, I appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos.
God I wish I saw a video like this when I was only using a wood lathe. Now with a metal lathe things are different. Really good Gabe!

Thanks so much! Great explanation and diagram. Enjoy your bespoke videos, very helpful
Your welcome, glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching the videos.
Awesome work, Gabe! one of these days!
Thank you for watching it. Hope it helps.
Great video! Can’t wait to try this after I get better at segmenting pens! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
Great. Take things one step at a time, I turned kit pens for more than 10 years before I started bespoke turning. Enjoy the process of segmenting.
Nice video! Have you ever used alumilte blanks? I was wondering how it compares with ebonite

Sharp tools and bits makes a huge diffenence. I destroyed a lot of ebonite when I started this quest also, learned a lot along the way.
Is Aluminite blanks good to use as practice blanks?

@@exoticwoodpen thanks I use Aluminite to do my blanks

Video molto bello. potresti dirmi le dimensioni del maschio per il pennino jowo 6
