- Turning a Bespoke or Kitless Fountain Pen Nib Section
In this video I explain the process and demonstrate how to turn on my woodlathe the Nib Section for a Fountain Pen
If you are interested in my Pens, you can find me on Facebook and Instagram under "Just Turnings" or send me an email to "justturnings@hotmail.com"
Please note, these are the first video's I've ever made and put together, they are quite rough and a bit longer than I wanted, but I hope the content makes up for this. Thanks for your understanding.
Great video, very helpful and full of unique little tips. Thanks for sharing those small things that make the end result superb!
Thoroughly enjoying your videos, very informative, very helpful.
Glad you like them!
Congratulations, very nice job!!!!
Very informative video, thank you. Question... why not make a tenon on the mandrel the exact size you want the mating surface to be? You would still get the support of being right up against mandrel.
The brass eventually wears down anyway to match approximately the size. But I also use this mandrel for other size sections.
Amazing work, thanks for video. Please where did you buy thread for JOWO housing? Thanks for answer VF
Learning a lot from your videos before having a go my self. Just one question. When threading the section for the nib do you use a starter, intermediate of plug tap? I am in the UK and can buy each of the taps separately or in a set of three which is quite expensive if I don’t need them all.
I believe I just use an Intermediate for the nib section. Plug tap would be a useful second one to have if doing clear or transparent materials.
Hee, I have a question. Which Polish do you use. I notice you take a few different steps and I was wondering what you were using. I like the way you go about your pen making
I use a variation on Magic Juice (available from Stadium Blanks in the US). I'll wet sand to 5000 (but really only 1000/2000 is necessary) and then I buff using the polish compounds. I've tried lots and lots of different finishes and this has been the best for me and how I work.
Does the tapping work on wood?
As a general rule No. There are a couple of exceptions of wood types that you can get it to work, but certainly not many.
