Hey hi... I could send you a sample of what I have been giving to my pets... It is organically grown ground into a very fine dust (pure valerian) that I store in the freezer (because they will find it and make a mess with it) and take a pinch out at a time and make like 3 little piles of it on a paper plate as a treat and they lick it up and kinda act super silly and relaxed...

I had the same idea months ago with my dog! I drink a herbal sleep tea + Valerian root. I tell him he's getting mummys sleepy tea, he sits and waits for his small cup to get cooler and loves it!
Hooray! We have used Valerian root on our babies for several years. Our rescued Anatolian used to have panic attacks when storms came up. Valerian helped him so much he now comes to ask for his valerian drop biscuit when a big one is coming but he doesn't bother for little storms! It has also been helpful with his separation anxiety. Valerian helps him recognize that what felt like a threat really isn't so he can better self regulate as time goes on. My good boy is doing great! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes, it does smell like a raccoon died in a florist's shop on Friday of a long weekend and it's now Tuesday morning, but that's very temporary. And it works!

If you have dogs and cats it's a great alternative for catnip in it's dry form. Catnip does have a toxicity level in dogs. Awesome vid. 👍👍👍

Thanks so much for mentioning phenobarbital and not to give it while she’s on that. Good info to know. also, I didn’t realize it helped with pain.
I had never heard of this! I have used valerian periodically throughout my life when life happened; ie death of my brother and parents, divorce and most recently, the disappearance of my daughter (she's still missing) but had no idea I could use it on my pup and my kitties! This could save BOTH my husband's and my arms, chest (and face!) from looking like hamburg after trying to cut nails, groom them, etc. Thank you SO MUCH!!!

Hi Dr. Jones Can this be used on a daily basis for dogs ? How long on average does it work for ?
I have personally been using the capsule form of valerian root for at least 25 years for sleep off and on. It is the best sleep aid I have found when anxiety creeps in. No grogginess ever. I never thought. Of the tincture form for my car who gets a bit stressed when we travel. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I do also het the occasional back spasm. Who knew VR could be used for that! 👍🏻
I have used valerian root for years to help with my dogs anxiety especially when I am at work for long hours at a time… I’m no longer working those hours but when I did, this helped keep them relaxed!

Nervous? Poor dog seems scared or Stifled, afraid to move without His permission. Never seen her wag her tail ? Have You .....just curious ? Vet does have some good advice .

I buy vet ease tranquailizers gel calming it’s easier for me my cat Pecan hates syringes I put him in cat in the bag, I smear on his teeth. I also buy urinase, gel with cranberry lysine I smear this on his teeth. I feed him Purina one beef pate urine formula no vet expense.
That Prairie Doctor brand of Valerian Root in your video has an alcohol base tincture.

You mention not combining with phenobarbital, but what about gabapentin? I volunteer at a cat shelter, and one of our cats has cerebral hyperplasia. Gabapentin has helped a bit, but recently it seems she has had an uptick in episodes. Of course, we’d check with one of our partner vets, first. Is it worth mentioning, in your opinion?

Are oil and tincture the same thing…I get that tincture has alcohol…but can the oil be used?
Nope. The essential oil is entirely different than the extract. Absolutely NOT interchangeable and not for internal use. My 115lb Anatolian only takes 3 to 5 drops on a biscuit, so the alcohol is very negligible. If it really worries you, order a valerian glycerite.

Can I give my cat valerian root tincture 2.5% in drops, that is for made for human, or does it have to be for valerian root that is made for cats ?

I have a question. Our lab pup keeps leaking urine where she lays down. She constantly try’s to eat the oleander flowers and stems from the neighbors bushes. We try to clean them up daily, but she still eats some. Could this be her leaky bladder cause? Shiba is 14 months old. She’s not always leaky.
Valerian root sounds perfect for my senior dog.. The older he gets, the more stressed he gets about just about anything. I wonder if it's OK long term?

I only have the Valerian root, got it from a pharmacy in Europe. How can I use this for my dog? I doubt he will just eat it and what quantity?
My maltipoo gives the groomer a hard time , specially when she does his face he doesn’t like it. So they recommend this natural product call heavenly hounds that have valerian root and passion flower in it as well as peanut butter too. Wonder if that product will be ok to give my maltipoo? You should consult your vet before mixing herbs and medications. Some herbs can interfere with certain medications.

I buy rescue remedy for my cats. It is herbal and helps them when they are nervous. Murray cracks me up he doesn't look pleased to be in videos lol. Tula is always a happy participant until she has to take something other than treats.
