17:59 Well, to be fair to the enemy carrier, his target in this case is a matter of immediate personal survival, not getting a destroyer flipping a cap circle, because that battleship HAS to be spotting him, nothing else could. Although rocket planes are...not exactly ideal for a battleship squished up near a shoreline. That was begging for a torpedo attack from the west. Which is justified at 19:09 when the carrier lost half his health.
One of the major differences in those engagements was context Jingles: The Shinonome was about two tiers lower then him, had other ships shooting at it and only had one salvo of torps to use. The Hsienyang had the Monarch to worry about as well. The Kidd got surprised and only managed to get one half salvo off that missed. Finally his Asashio had a 5 second reload or close to it making it nearly as dangerous as an Akizuki. Now they did very well in their ship, but things could have gone very differently especially if the Furious had gone after him.
Just started getting facebook ads for modeling and model painting, never was interested, never googled it , never whatched a video..... only a couple of your videos. Oh facebook ,you so inocent
A lot of IJN DD captains don't use their guns because they don't rotate fast enough to track an enemy DD if both ships are maneuvering at close range (the Shinonome and Kidd were both sailing in straight lines and the Hsienyang was at long range). The Shinonome in this vid didn't fire earlier because his rear turrets weren't pointing in the right direction; it took that long for them to come around. He could have (and should have) fired a couple shots with his front turret, but it wouldn't have made a difference in the end.
What that Nagato was doing is exactly what lead me to lose a match one time. I was in my baby, the Tirpitz and the friendly Bismarck on my team decided to go that way. Safe to say the enemy Izumo survived cause the Bismarck would have had been able to intercept the guy and we lost because the enemy team was ahead on points so if we killed him we would have won.
How to play a DD 101. Chapter 1 - "Play the objectives," Chapter 2 - "Controlled Engagements of Other DDs," Chapter 3 - "How do Deliver Effective Torpedoes." Everything else is gravy.
I once killed an Akatsuki with the guns on the Shiratsuyu, despite him having more HP and guns. The difference was, he was trying to chase me, where he only had two guns, and I kept weaving so that I could get all guns on target while he was limited to just the bow turret. Once he realized he was losing the fight, he surrendered the initiative, and I turned back and finished him.
As an IJN DD player, you have to pick the moment to use your guns. The big advantage of Japanese DDs is their stealth. If you can slip away you do. If you use your guns then you are spotted for a long time and have a good chance of severe damage.
Top tip for torping boats screen shot all the maps you play and study them just like capt reads his maps seeking engagement.in real life . Any advantage or preparation is good make notes for each map and save .
Jingles I have gone to guns quite a few times against DDs as well as BBs when smoked up. Like you said in this video, other players get uncomfortably surprised when I nail them for 3500 damage with my guns. All bets are off though vs Akizuki type DDs thats just a paddlin. This was a fun video to watch thank you and cheers.
It's worth noting that the Asashio actually has unusually good guns. The HE damage was tweaked upward to 2150 which is only 50 points below the 2200 AP damage.
What makes IJN DD guns dangerous to use is the shot range, slow rotation and rate of fire, low ship HP, and relatively slow ship speed. When you get into a position to use them, they can do some work.
As a majestic warrior who also _totally_ fought in two world wars, I do recall being on a new prototype destroyer that the Royal Navy built and on that same day, the captain of that ship beached it in the stupidest way possible. When I went to complain and give him a piece of my mind, I found myself in a gulag on the other side of the world.... Quite interesting if I do say so myself.
Some of the ijn destroyers guns aren't terrible, they just can't compete with the gunboats. It's always refreshing to see a Japanese destroyer Captain who understands their guns can be useful. It's the slow turret reverse and reload that gimps their guns, the shells are actually pretty decent.
I love my Assashio and I love to contest caps with it. The stealth is amazing and if you have your guns ready and can aim/kite worth a damn, you can absolutely hold your own vs other destroyers. I don’t go out of my way to pick fights with other DD’s, but if one is in range, I’m shooting at it because the guns take meaty chunks with every salvo.
This is basically dream match making for the DD driver. Top Tier, with bottom tier sky cancer, and the red sky cancer dreams of becoming a paste eater someday.....
I drive IJN DDs all the time. My view of them is that while torps are your primary weapon, while you're waiting for the reload, you might as well fire the guns if they'll help. I think Mutsuki is likely an exception because with just 2 guns, you're not likely to get any real use out of them except in an emergency. This sort of behavior is much more common in lower tiers, so I would disagree with Jingles as it seems to be changing.

i love my Asashio's guns because no one expects you to use them. with fire flags and the right skills on the captain and modules the asashio can hit hard, and if you get your detection down low enough you can get close enough to cit with ap broadside CAs
The Nagato took the route into what I call "Retard Alley". I've lost count of how many times I've seen 3-5 ships head in there and then bitch in chat why every one was dead.
Funny thing is: I started playing WoWs with Japanese Destroyers and for a long time I didn't realize, that their guns are worse than those of other nations. So that habit of not using them never got to me. XD
Reminds me of a British public announcement film from WW II on what to do during an Air Raid. first suggestion is to get to cover and not watch the bombers, few dozen other suggestions near the end it again suggest get to cover and Not stand outside watching the bomber!
As an IJN destroyer captain of a half-upgraded(torpedoe & hull upgrade) Fubuki, I must say that I have sunk more destroyers of other nations with my guns; and I have been sunk by more IJN destroyers using their guns. Than the times a destroyer of another nation has sunk my Fubuki. Well, except anyone in a suicidal Kamikaze R, Minekaze and Mutsuki. I've noticed that like myself, my fellow IJN captains have learned to fire our guns quite accurately. Not every one has gotten the Naval Letter Invitation for Gunnery School. 😉
Basically you are right Jingles with the Nagato but this Map is the Northern Lights Map and so this Map doesn´t have those "Big Red Signs" it is on the "North" Map where those Signs are bcs it got a lot more Island on the 9/10 Line
this reminds me of my funtimes in harekaze including some just after asashio dropped - most notably two things - 1. that time when I've spent half of the ranked being on effectively no health, chased by german t8 DD that was on full health.... untill it ceased to be by the merit of my guns hitting him consistently while he struggled to land any shots on my kiting ass.... 2. that time just after asashio released when I was yelled at by my team for dropping last ditch torpedoes on cleveland that was radaring me from 6km because "dumbass your torpedoes can;t hit cruisers!"
Jingles. Given your love of naval warfare, and since your not opposed to playing games in stages of development, you should give ultimate admiral: dreadnoughts a try. I’ve been watching other youtubers playing it and it seems right up your alley.
My internet's been shite today, so through the video it just sounded like Jingles had a case of hiccups. Also Tank Mechanic Simulator released yesterday.
I would be interested in seeing World of Warships add American PT boats, Kriegsmarine Schnellboot, and the other equivalent to the game. Might make things very interesting depending on how it was done.
I salute whoever still playing those IJN torpedo boats. I quit WoWS when I reach the Isokaze and realise every match (at least in SEA) is a triple CVs game, it's just not fun at all.
I have a different out of context question. The opening credits of your videos include a dive bomber where the bomb rotates out on a frame before disconnecting from the plane. I /think/ that's how the Japanese Judy did it that way, but I can't find any supporting info. Do you happen to know where I can learn the engineering decisions behind dropping a bomb like that?
What was that Ryujo doing attacking the Arizona Jingles? Well seeing as that Ryujo didn't have any support and an Arizona bearing down on him, he was probably trying to stay in the game by killing the Arizona before the Arizona killed him. Just a guess..
4:45... Japanese DD guns aren't bad though. They hit harder than american ones, have massive fire setting chances, and good arcs. They dont turn or reload fast... but its really not hard to beat US/Pan asian dds in gunfights at the edge of your respective ranges merely on principal of you'll hit them with every salvo you fire, while they have to work to get their shots to land on you with their abysmal shell speeds.
What's this! Japanese DD captains ACTUALLY using their guns to shoot at things! I shall be sending Wargaming HQ a sternly worded letter of complaint about this despicable display of gameplay. XD
I love using the guns on my Asashio B, enemy dds don't expect it and make stupid mistakes thinking I won't fire, panic fire everything when I do and chunk them for a lot of damage, and then they die.
I never understood why more japanese destroyer captains don't use the guns they punch ridiculously hard have a decent to good fire chance and well even at tier 6 with the fubuki and hatsuharu they're guns are in dual turrets rather than the single gun mounts at tier 5 and below and they're totally worth using when your able to or forced to :)
It's been awhile, so I could be remembering wrong, but I don't think Kancolle's Shimakaze was terribly bright either. Perhaps Shimakaze captains are just trying to be like their idol?
Seriously, when are we getting an Akazuki roar for Krakken unleashed? Something grand and fierce is missing here!
yes
It should at least be updated for the jingles captain

Where was that carrier captain my last few tier 8 games? I played against a couple very good ones and they just camped on me until I was sunk.
Actually jingles, The shen yang is my father's old ship. It was the uss power ddg839. It was a gearing class destroyer.
Not SHEN Yang BUT HSIEN Yang a Gleaves class (basically Benson class).
@@MortenBulskov thanks for the clarification
holy moly... lessons learnt!
"the kidd is obviously a tier VII Fletcher ?" oh please.... Overlord Jingles, are you doing this on purprose ? ok... more salt....
I would be interested in seeing World of Warships add American PT boats, Kriegsmarine Schnellboot, and the other equivalent to the game. Might make things very interesting depending on how it was done.
I use the guns all the time in my Shimakaze. It's a good way to get damage, especially in those games where you can't hit anything with the torpedos.
Great video as usual jingles god bless you and your family
I salute whoever still playing those IJN torpedo boats. I quit WoWS when I reach the Isokaze and realise every match (at least in SEA) is a triple CVs game, it's just not fun at all.
Statistically speaking you're more likely to find a Japanese destroyer firing her guns than a US DD that doesn't ripple fire!
Thanks Jingles.
I recently got a kraken unleashed in my Fujin. 3 gun kills, one death by fire (started by guns) and a torp kill.
Last time I was this early jingles was still in the Royal Navy
What was that Ryujo doing attacking the Arizona Jingles?
Well seeing as that Ryujo didn't have any support and an Arizona bearing down on him, he was probably trying to stay in the game by killing the Arizona before the Arizona killed him. Just a guess..
I think you mean the New Mexico, but yes the carrier is rightly trying to save himself.
Devonshire asking for AA support against a T6 CV is like a Daring asking for smoke.
What's this! Japanese DD captains ACTUALLY using their guns to shoot at things! I shall be sending Wargaming HQ a sternly worded letter of complaint about this despicable display of gameplay. XD
That Bismarck at 9:39 is looking suspiciously british there Jingles ...
What's the noise in the background Jingles?
An aquarium or a deep frier?
Or both...? The synergy is strong in this one...
The Japanese were not signatories of the Geneva convention Jingles, silly man
Jingles, it was 1 second to go because his team was at 997 points.
I once got a Kraken in my Shimakaze with 0 torpedo kills. Four kills directly with the guns and fifth with a fire.
Ahhh, my eyes! Scrolling to aim! The horror!
Great match. Great commentary 😂
It's been awhile, so I could be remembering wrong, but I don't think Kancolle's Shimakaze was terribly bright either. Perhaps Shimakaze captains are just trying to be like their idol?
I guess if this guy was captain during wwii japan may not have to check up on the surface ships with an rov thank good for timing
